A few training pics up.

Since when did Hogan come across to us in offseason?

Unfortanately, they highlight several dreadful flaws in his kicking technique.

I always scratch my head at this stuff - how the $#@% can so many kids who are scrutinised within an inch of their life not get drilled properly on kicking?

You see it every year, really odd kicking styles from really high level talent. It's ridiculous that they don't get schooled till they get drafted.

Great photos.

Cyril, Buddy and Suckling all have unorthodox kicking styles and each of them get great results with their field kicking most of the time.

Howe also gets great results so it's not really an issue unless you make it one. If he was a shit kick AND his execution was poor then it would be worth addressing.

I definitely agree with this, but it would still be better if they'd had a look at it when he was an elite 14 year-old.

That extra distance is another tenth of a second or three for someone to get a hand in there.

Probably doesn't affect most guys who are like that, but would factor in with the odd time they're smothered etc.

That's true, but maybe they did and he was resistant to the change (particularly if it got him worse results in the short term) and in the end just let it go to instead focus on greater weaknesses in his game? Or possibly that his kicking action was actually at one point much worse and this is in fact a huge improvement?

Good points, it may be that they did.

The best example of someone having some really minor changes at a late stage of their development, was Sewell.

Yet he remained a player and was in the senior team before they bothered to look at it.

You're right though, some guys don't take well to the changes offered. I think Buddy was notoriously resistant to change, even through his period of chronic yips.

Buddy is just a confidence player. His whole game fluctuates with it. The defenders that could get in his head were always the ones who did best on him.
