id imagine we would fly back Saturday afternoon and be back in perth Saturday evening around 8pm. Then stay in Perth until Thursday morning and fly back.

There's an 8.30pm VB flight home - they'll be on that

It's the reason the prelim is a day game. Had it been carlton the game would have been at night

This then allows us full recovery at home.

We'd then fly back as normal on Thursday, do the parade on friday and bring home the flag on Saturday :)

yeah thats fine, but when you consider that for world cups(soccer & rugby) and cricket tours, teams are away for weeks at a time, would they consider staying there?

What planet do you live on? The Eagles fly home after every Melbourne game and have done so for years even when the VFL/AFL were trying to kill us in the early years.

The whole reason they scheduled the game on Saturday afternoon is so if they win they can be back in Perth on Saturday night.

Where would they stay in Melbourne? Where would they train? Eat? Relax?

The key with athletes is to keep the same routine. Why would you want to disrupt the week before the biggest match of the season?

I can't believe you started a thread on this topic.

I know its what we historically have done but I think the OP has a valid point. Imagine the sookfest from a Victorian team if they had to fly to Perth twice in a week.

Rumour has it the contingency plan should we win is to land a few blankhawks onto the mcg at about 5.30 melbourne time, snap the players off to avalon and then jump on Twiggy Forrest's private jet leaving at 6 so should be back home 7pm perth time.

If we don't want to fly twice we just have to finish in the top 2, easy!

If Hawthorn beat Collingwood and we beat Geelong, maybe we could ask the Pies if they'd let us use their facilities for the week?

Seriously, though, I think I recall a couple of times in our history where the team flew in a day or two early and it ended in tears for us. Break in routine, I suppose.
