I've held onto this for years. I've never actually said it out loud. But I've never really rated Travis Boak that highly.
Well you've definitely spent the last two years making up for lost time.

Going on a trip to the USA once a year isn't a qualification.

Is a piece of paper more valuable than an 18 year, 350+ game AFL career where you were well known for keeping yourself on the park and gut running well into your 30s, as well as running offseason camps for other players who also quite often went on to have breakout seasons?

If it's something he has a genuine interest in i'm sure he can study, but he's been living and breathing it for almost 2 decades.

Given that you can be an AFL fitness boss without the 350 game career tells me the "paper" is more valuable. I'm also pretty sure Boak isn't running or building these programs but merely going along with what the actual qualified people are telling him. This isn't to say he isn't gaining knowledge or skills but I think its a bit silly to say he can run and implement fitness plans for 40+ players at once in a year and a halfs time.

Boak as fitness boss in 2025 has Hartlett as reserves coach incestuous vibes.

In 2007 my old man said there was a lot of a bloke who was playing Reserves footy at Port about Boak. I scoffed, however now, almost 20 years on and I wouldn’t say the comparison was that far off. Sure his professionalism has been out of this world and his leadership qualities have basically held the club together, however the footballer definitely has his flaws and unfortunately played some of his best years out of position.

Boak the footballer < Boak the man, Travis’ may not be the ‘BEST’ footballer or 20 footballers to ply for the club, however the legacy and case study on his impact will hold him in the very top echelon of Port Adelode people when the dust is settled.

0 flags. Doesn't hold a candle

Robbie Gray has zero flags. It's extremely likely that Rozee, Butters and Horne-Francis retire without flags. If that's your metric then there probably won't be another great Port Adelaide player in your lifetime.

Some severe underrating of his football ability here.

The bloke finished second in the Brownlow at 32 years of age. He should arguably have another couple of All Australians to go with his three, and that's without factoring in that he was played out of position in some of his prime years.

The bloke went pick 5 in the superdraft for a reason.

Boak was also an undisputed matchwinner as an inside outside mid before being moved to half forward to fill a dumb role only he could fill under the worst gameplan we've ever played. His prime was wasted in that position and he was still good every week in an impossible role in a terrible system.

He didn't luck his way into 3 AA guernseys.

It's pretty clear that he's not just following a program set by a club fitness boss though, he actively goes above and beyond to prepare and recover. Clearly it's not just a job for him.

Well if they want to change it maybe they should stop worrying about how scary finals are and win a ****ing flag or two.

You want to have a nice worklife balance then follow the Hinkley school of greyhound betting and socialising. You want to be considered a great then ****ing prove it.
