When someone said that Jacko was being pushed out of the club: *crickets*. They could've said, "hey, he might still re-sign", but didn't.
I forgot about that.

Jacko's situation was brought up at the members focus group meeting last night. The body language from the club reps told me that he's gone. I might be reading too much into it. What did you thing Janus , RussellEbertHandball ?

As I said last week, start saying your goodbyes. He's gone.

In my view Jacko can be unhappy only because there are others before him that should have suffered the fate he has (for example, Hartlett, Boak should have been dropped at different times). In addition, Lobbe should have been forced out the way Jacko is.

Having said that, it is the right decision to move him on now (if the rumours are true). We have traditionally not made hard calls like this.

The are slight differences between HH, Lobbe & Jacko's situations.

HH - contracted as starting mid, has since become clear that he is unable to play that position better than incumbents. Forced to learn new possie at HBF and has earned his place (after some wobbles). Will not get better money or longevity elsewhere.

Lobbe - Contracted as a first ruck, and clearly overtaken by Ryder. Unable to play as second ruck forward. Now a SANFL player, back up in case of injury. Will not get better money, longevity or gametime (probably) elsewhere.

Jacko - Uncontracted. Overtaken in backline due to speed/disposal. Overtaken in ruck with Ryder's return. Forced to learn new role in forward line, hasn't worked. Opportunity to be a SANFL player in case of injury or seek greener pastures. Will get more money/longevity and gametime elsewhere.

The major difference between the three is Jacko can leave and improve his position, the others can't. That is the fault of contracts they were given that they did not deserve, a lesson we are learning from in Jacko's case.

Is JT leaving part of a bigger plan or is it just a decision in itself?

Would we trade JT for Motlop if neither were free agents.

Is this all part of a master plan to get Tom Lynch?

You could argue that Jacko's fate has been a big part on poor management by the club and he feels hard done by.
Ruck goes down/suspended and Jacko gets asked to step in. Does ok but gets praise for stepping up when needed. Meanwhile his regular position has been taken by clurey/ Houston so he has to go and learn a new position in the forward line where he shifts from 2nd kpf to some hybrid tagger/ full forward depending on the game. This clearly isn't working but is persisted with for far too long so by the time he is dropped there isn't time for him to develop the required skills in the 2's to slot him back in before the end of the year.
I imagine he feels like he has been set up to fail for two years by the coaches and has now lost the ability to go back to the position he was best in because others have overtaken him there. So he has kept his side of the bargain by doing as asked and is now being looked over. Especially when you consider stories of Hartlett telling the coaches he doesn't want or can't play the midfield role he was signed up for

Having said all of this I think our best defender unit wouldn't include him anymore even if he had been left in the backline for the past two seasons

I'll feel dirty if it's for a second round pick.

Difference being that their ceilings are far higher than Jacksons. He's Tom Logan in a key position body.

Also this is the saddest exit I can think of in our AFL era. Bled for the jumper and part of the culture reform.

Unfortunately player standards have dropped, not his fault, but we have too many underperformers due to complacency. We've just dungoofed in rewarding players guaranteed selections just for being good blokes.

He also allegedly got paid big overs for it, but he did stick his flag in the ground early when we were on our knees and has always given his all.... for that alone I'd love him to stay.

The flip-side is, he is becoming harder to find match ups for down back (remember prior to having to ruck last year he wasn't knocking it out of the park down back).

If we can't guarantee him a starting 18 spot and he can get that elsewhere I wish him the best.

I'd prefer he stays as it would be sad to see him not a one club player, but don't begrudge him exploring options.

I'm gonna be visibly upset if/when I have to watch him run around in another club's colours, but let's not be silly if he leaves it's for money to a club that he is worth significantly more to than he is to us.

That is what free agency does, especially when you are looking down the barrel of an a big pay cut made much bigger due to your currently backloaded contract.

Pittard basically said he didn't even look because he didn't want to have to face that choice. Trengove is apparently getting big offers at what is probably the lowest point of his career, how could anyone in his position turn down that chance?

Would this have never happened had we not moved him into the ruck? Maybe not. Was potential upside of the move worth the risk? IMO yes.
