He was terrible these finals...

No, he wasnt. When Richmond were getting blitzed he pretty much won us the game v Brisbane. Cotchin is an amazing footballer you gotta watch a bit closer. Almost never lets the ball get goal side in a contest. Smart, hard as nails etc. Without his tackle v mummy or his hard ball get v shields who knows how many premierships richmond have.

Has become a great captain, seems like a great guy, but has regressed as a player. Probably not even in the Tigers' top 10 anymore.
I can see why you might say that, but I think he just now plays a really selfless game. He's one of the most defensively accountable mids in the game. His coverage for Dusty at stoppages allows Dusty to hunt the ball. He's rarely going to get 25+ touches these days, but he always seems to bob up with big moments when Richmond needs them - the massive tackle to start the second half against Geelong in the prelim, the massive tackle on Mummy in the GF, getting us going in the second quarter in the final against Brisbane when he had 8 touches in the first 15 minutes. He makes players around him better, but he won't dominate AFL Fantasy that's for sure.

Probably fair to say that his legacy as a captain will be greater than as a player, even with a Brownlow and three b&f's.

As captain, is only 6 and 14 games respectively behind club legends Dyer & Bentley. Joins Hart, Minogue and Bentley as dual premiership captains.

In all seriouslyness, gun, absolute gun.

His hit on Shiel in 2017 set the tone, his tackle on the Geelong bloke in the prelim set the tone.

Seems a pretty decent person too.

Great player and gun.

One thing funny about him: as great as he is, some of his accolades on paper make him seem better than he actually has been.

Dual premiership captain, Brownlow medallist*, AFLCA Award.

That sort of resume would normally put him amongst the greats, but in reality he as only a top echelon player for 1-2 seasons (hence, his solitary All-Australian award).

Cringed at what I assumed to be another Richmond supporter bumping ANOTHER old thread. Slightly relieved to see it was someone else.

Trent has been great since he went away from picking up 30+ sideways kicks and handball receives a game like he did around 2014-16.

His attack on the ball and lust for the contest sets the tone for our midfield. That goal he kicked in the grand final was the first selfish thing he’s done in many years (should have passed to Lynch) but I was so happy that he did it. Deserved a little slice for himself after putting everyone else first for so long.
