Trent Croad to call it quits

Sad news. I'm a huge Croady fan, love the guy and am shattered that he couldn't get his body right. It must have been a major issue and i just hope that he can get it healed 100% for himself. Was a fantastic player, a great leader in our backline in his second stint and he was massively missed in 09 and will be this year also. Hopefully he will hang around and help out with our young backline.

All the best Croady, thanks for the memories :)

.

I add my sad goodbye, Trent. But only as a player as for life you will remain a Hawthorn favorite son - a premiership one at that.

Breaking news on ABC Radio 612 Queensland / Far Nothern NSW Coast so Queensland Hawks are not having a good day with this news.

Very very disappointing news for croady, the club and all HFC supporters for his career to end prematurely due to injury.

What an incredible career he has had that has now finished with his last game being one where we one a flag - and how fitting that is!

Especially when you consider we probably wouldn't have achieved that flag without the club discarding him (and mcpharlin) which ultimately led to us picking up hodge and mitch from the trade with freo. Thank god we managed to get him back (and he remained loyal).

Croady shall be remembered as being not only a great player achieving AA honours at CHB and being a true leader on-field - but above all he will be remembered as a top bloke, a great clubman and an inspiration to all at HFC.

I just hope he remains at HFC in some capacity and I wish him the best in his future endeavours.

It wasnt a freak injury. Go and have a look at the Prelim final he couldnt walk and his foot injury was widely reported right through the finals.

spot on. Croad 100% came into the game a huuge risk carrying that foot injury. I know for a fact the club doctor was shattered with himself for allowing Croad to play.

Absolute champion of the club! I will really miss watching him break tackles, long bombs. Sad day for the brown and gold but for Croad to bow out with a flag makes me feel content.

Sorry to see Croady all done. I remember seeing him in perth a couple of months after he was traded, back then i had a funny feeling he would be back and give all his heart for the brown and gold. Well done Trent you did the number 24 proud.

Will miss Croady. Can still remember when he'd run through the guts, ball under arm and boom! deep into the forward 50. Oh, best thighs in the AFL too!

Thanks for the memories Trent. Hope life after footy is awesome for you!

Whilst the 01 trade has proven to be the right thing by the club, I'd be lying if I was to say I wasn't furious at the time. Absolutely furious.
i think he came back bigger and better ! i missed that time but joined i think it was the yr he came back if not yr before
but i heard how angry people were and have heard stories of him getting sung a song before he left for freo and when he returned the song sung again and how he was over joyed to be back

Well done Trent. You have always been a gentleman, and a mighty nice guy..I wish you and your family all the best, and I hope you stay around the club. You have done us proud.
As for that troll HITB, or is it Hole in the Head?. It sure looks to me like you and willie rioli are one and the same!!! Both joined in Aug 2009? Too much of a co-incidence for my liking!!
How dare you even question his guts and determination on GF day!
If you believe that, then what about Brown, (injured) Robbie(injured) Clinton Young (injured) X Ellis (injured) Dew, (injured).Hodge(broken ribs) The list goes on AND on..
In your estimation nobody should have played on GF day.. AND you forget ONE BIG THING!! WE WON THE PREMIERSHIP!!!!!! HE helped us win it..
There is not one fit player during GF day, what about Riewoldt? Played with a bad knee..
Time to grow up HITB,willie rioli!!
It's strange that YOU and willie rioli are the ONLY trolls to talk negative talk about him..
Good luck Croady. We will miss you!!:footy::footy::footy:

whateva mate. i agree that HITB is out of line for bringing any negativity into this thread when it should be all about celebrating a distinguished career. The intention of my post was to shed some insight on the meds view on Croad playing on that day, and how they felt terrible for gambling on a player who had one possession on the day. This is fact! So piss off, and stop being so precious. People are entitled to their own opinions, and hate seeing people ganged up on when expressing their views.
Croad was a great servant to this club, and one of my fav players and am upset as anyone on this forum.

The players arent dumb. Croad playing would have made no difference to their pre game attitude. We have moved past the 60's.

In fact their their "psyche" would have been better running out with 22 fit players rather than knowing their CHB was on one leg.

Go ruin some one else Parade you tool;

1: fact the team won us the 2008 GF
2: Croad is very much a part of that team and spirit
3:Croady pumped the boys and and lead the way until injury hit and Gilham and Hodge lead the way after that.

4: Dew and Rioli lifted there work rate in the 4th QTR, and we would of lost if a few players didnt lift there work rate!

Incase you are blind Croady was up on the broundry line on crutchs in the 4th QTR clearly bleeding brown and gold! Yelling encouragement to the boys and yelling out instructions to the defence..... Insperational and im sure he inspired the boys!

Croady your a champion and you will be sadly missed on the ground, i hope you can stay on in a coaching role at the club, well done old chap :D

100% agree.
For me this was up there with the most courageous/inspirational acts i've seen on the football field. Right up there with Brereton's goal after being downed by Yeats. absolutely sensational!

and furthermore, LuvMyHawks, does this post i wrote yesterday sound like i'm questioning Croad's guts and determination?
Don't get me wrong, i love your passion and great to see you defending Croad - but 1) i take exception to being accused of being a troll 2) i was never bagging Croad in the first place and 3) you should accept people have different views and this forum would be dull as batshit if it were always one big lovefest.

I had hoped for all of 2009 that we would get to see Croad take his place in the team....alas his retirement was always on the cards.

It brings a sadness to my heart to know that we wont see him pull on the #24.....

But geezus thanks for the memories and a Grand Final that I will never forget and Croads part in it that will be told for generations to come.

Commiserations, Cats' supporters know what it's like to lose a player to injury. No one likes to see a player leave the game like that. I hope he doesn't have any issues later in life with his foot.

yes agree never like seeing career ending injuries at all in any club no matter the rivalry.

thank you for your kind words :thumbsu:

Gary love that pic of the mark over Brown !!!! :thumbsu:

I have an 8 on my membership scarf this year although I first joined 12 years ago - not too hard to guess why.

No matter how many times I watch it, I still get choked up seeing Trent's elation as he thanks each of his team mates for achieving the ultimate after the 2008 final siren.

A fantastic career and a great guy whose absence will leave a huge hole in our backline and many a heart.

Thanks for the memories. Shame he had to go out that way but his dedication to the Hawks will never be forgotten. A true team man and an inspiration to team mates and supporters alike. Best wishes for the future. We'll miss you Croady.

Thanks Trent Croad, one of my favourite players from the moment he joined the club! I was crushed when you were moved to freo but happy to see you come back and became a premiership player for the mighty hawks!

We'll miss you!
