We will likely finish bottom 4, like we would have last year if we didn't get double games against some real bad sides. We have progressed from a really bad side to a bad side with occasional glimpses of ok.

Do people just post dross like this in the hope no-one will fact check them and it becomes accepted? Double-ups against both grand finalists, top 4 Port and prelim finalists GWS. WC & GC the only poor sides.

and of those 4, one was the not really contested mark pictured earlier, and the other was over a small defender conceding a significant amount of size.

Hardly worth writing home about.

Regardless of your view on the level of contested marks he took. You would surely agree he was one of the most dominant forwards on the ground?

The team who went 5-7 against finalists (sixth best record in the league) would become bottom 4 if not for the double ups.

Make no mistake, Adelaides story is not a bad team who overperformed. It's a very good side which tripped at the last hurdle - repeatedly.

"Very good sides" don't trip at the last hurdle repeatedly.

Seriously how many contested marks (AFL definition) do you expect him to take?

In 2023, the player with the most contested marks for the year was Charlie Curnow at 2.58.

We lost to Collingwood (x 2), Melbourne and Brisbane by all less than a goal away from home. And beat Brisbane at home and the first time since 2017 beat Port in both Showdowns.

Some people are never happy.

Under new regulations, there is the “discretion for the AFL to apply a suspension differently in exceptional and compelling circumstances”.

It means even if Powell-Pepper is handed a three or four-week ban there is discretion for the league to force him to serve all of it starting from round 1 or serve one of those weeks’ suspension in the community series.

The AFL’s match review team will on Monday assess the weekend’s incidents.

Adelaide defender Keane was being tackled and rotated by Port Adelaide forward Willie Rioli as Powell-Pepper approached the contest in the middle of Alberton Oval on Friday night.

Under AFL rules if Powell-Pepper had stopped his forward momentum as the players moved towards him and then simply braced for any contact as he protected himself he would have a clear case for his defence.

But footage shows Powell-Pepper instead leant into a bump, which breached his duty of care to opponent Keane, who was concussed.

The most likely course of action is that Powell-Pepper is handed a severe impact, high-contact, careless rough conduct report.

In recent history every AFL player suspended across the official pre-season competition has had to start that suspension from the first week of the season proper.

The league has just changed that rule, in part because of the quirks of the starting times state league seasons.

Given many state league seasons start later than the AFL season, players who still have VFL suspensions to serve from the previous season could be unfairly penalised.

This year the VFL season only starts in round 2 of the AFL season, so players waiting to serve VFL suspensions could also miss their AFL team’s first two games.

So while the rule has been brought in for state-league players, it does give the AFL leeway to decide how any suspension is served.

Richmond on Sunday confirmed midfielder Tyler Sonsie, suspended for three weeks in the VFL last year for an off-the-ball strike, could serve the remaining two weeks of that suspension in rounds zero and one of the AFL season.

The VFL appealed his three-week suspension and had hoped for a lengthier ban but was unsuccessful.

So while the VFL had argued for a four or five-week ban, he will only miss one week of VFL action – the final round last year – and return for round 1 of the VFL season on the weekend of March 22-24.
Thanks. TBF I can see the problem - although it does leave the door open for state league players to serve part of their suspension in AFL games they were never going to play in anyway.

But I can't see how it applies to SPP, or to trial games.

I think that's a big stretch.

If SPP can serve one of his games in the pre season, then they can move the fixture back one week so Keane can get another practice game in (assuming he doesn't have ongoing issues)

I think he should be a.owed to play the next game and serve all the games in the regular season. If they force you to miss a game, then it should count as one of the suspended games. If it's a problem that it's a meaningless trial game, then let them play it, simples.

You did well to get any non-advert material on AA in a 5 minute listen!
Would have thought the entire 5 minutes would have been ads.

It was a line used by a Power supporter in the early pages of this thread, I think. Perhaps it's one of the go to lines they parrot amongst themselves?

I went to the game, hard to assess for the most part. Feel the heat from our guys went out once Keane was injured.

Good signs though.

Happy with way we moved the ball. Direct and every player spreading and providing options.

Crouch impressed me in this regard. He has to play round 1. For me he has dramatically changed his game. Always had skill and good hands. But now has that direct mindset.

That game was the first time I have seen how great a true key forward Thilthorpe can be. Always looked to like he would be a very good one, similar with Ruck/midfield. But Friday night he looked like a big man. Finally matured into his body?

Rankine in the middle, a game changer for us. Burst of speed and quick playmaking ability.
With him and Crouch we have an improved midfield.

Curtin. Didn't do much. But he should play round 1. AFL body and movement already.
