Opinion Troy Menzel - Where is he at?

And was still terrible !
yeah you're right, if he were any good he would have shone through that shit sandwich like a diamond
Personally wouldn't mind Harrison Wigg getting an opportunity- now there's a guy that consistently makes the sanfl best players including best player in 2 of his last 3 games ... but no one calling for him to get a 'fair go'
this is the Menzel thread remember? And lets not forget we're talking about two completely different roles.

some people have wanted Wigg in the side since before the bye last year - I was absolutely filthy he didn't get a run against Brisbane or the Bombers when Thommo was clearly on his last legs. He was given every opportunity to take a spot in the JLT but burnt the ball worse than Menzel has been. Deserves another shot, especially after the horror game last week and many are calling for it in the changes thread. I'd like to see Wigg and Greenwood in this week at an absolute minimum, but there's another thread for that.

He has put in effort and intent to half time. I think he's trying too hard and over thinking in an attempt to stay in the side, which is costing him skill wise.

Needs a run of games to see if he can gain composure at AFL level

Scorpus nailed it perfectly.

He's not being given enough of a chance, and is constantly petrified he'll be dropped any second. This does not instill confidence. If he's given a string of games, uninterrupted, then we'll see where Menzel's at. He may very well need to be dropped/traded/delisted, but I'd be delisting our Veterans before Menzel. Read: MacKay and Douglas. They should've been delisted years ago. It's so long overdue, it's beyond a joke.

The problem is, our veterans remain cemented in the Senior Side, where we use a range of Rookies as in-and-out fill in's. This is why Menzel (and others) seem shaky and don't perform. Give them a decent string of games, then you'll see where they're at....but not before.

only the coaching staff, the only people whose opinions actually matter.
Well what a earth shattering statement as I really thought The Don and selectors looked up Big Footy before sitting down for selection.
Oh well guess that means on a interaction supporter forum we are not allowed to put our ideas down according to the DD23.
Might as well close forum down but don't know where DD23 will take his thought provoking knowledge to then.

lol, is this the only post of mine you've ever read?

you didn't even take it in context of the conversation.

Yes I do see that you provide good posting on this forum , but your statement was a massive put down on the poster and really others with their views and provided nothing else.
Guess I get annoyed by many I could name that just target the poster and bring nothing to the post subject. Maybe the post not true to your normal posting and maybe should respond to those that do that regularly.

Last time Wigg tackled someone the Berlin Wall was still up

Have your little Menzel fantasies . I'm happy for him to keep playing to find out for sure

But he won't make it , hasn't got the mentality for it

put down? I don't think so, certainly didn't mean it that way. Like you so sarcastically put it we all know our opinions on this board count for nought in the selection meeting, so what's the big deal?

I love discussing what should be happening, that in my view is the whole point of the forum. My comment was angled towards why would we cut Mackay more or even as much slack as Menzel? One has been mediocre for years and is tracking towards 200 games, the other has played what, 4 games for us now? The point is that the coaches have cut people heaps of slack in the past, but rarely extend the same courtesy to less-established players - the ones that need it most.

we probably have the longest list of mediocre 200 game players in AFL history and I think having our allocation of slack arse about has a lot to do with it.

Got a feeling Lever Greenwood and one of Galluci / Wigg will come in for Jenkins Mackay and Menzel ( inj)

I got no problems with your arguments as long as we both take the blows and soldier on

Too good for SANFL, not good enough for AFL. It's not uncommon. See Mitch Grigg for example.

At least we played Grigg in the AFL to see whether that was true.

Menzel has only played four games in our side. He was certainly AFL standard against GWS, and his effort was top notch against Melbourne. I actually liked his forward pressure against Essendon but he needed to get a few more touches. And against Gold Coast he was terrible.

Played four games and dropped twice has to **** with your mind, especially being dropped after a decent game. Getting a run of two consecutive games is not enough to see if Menzel actually has what it takes to play AFL. Against Melbourne in particular it was obvious he was trying too hard in an attempt to stay in the side, and it cost him skill wise. He's in that position because of our yo-yo selections.

Grigg is a guy we gave five consecutive games to, and realized he wasn't good enough. He didn't play beyond that point. The AFC should do the same with Menzel to see if he has what it takes.

80% of Douglas' output at the AFC was racked up in his gold jacket year.

I wonder if some supporters would cut Menzel more slack if he had a more sensible haircut and tapped more butts around the club
