I make a vegetarian Chilli using lentils and chopped mushrooms as the meat replacement that is incredible.

Also... "Don't buy in bulk" seems like bad advice.
Is it just me and my warped brain but if a dish doesn't have meat in it then it is a side or a salad. My brain will not process it as a main meal and i will feel dissatisfied. I do love salad and vegetables but my brain says it has to be with meat.

I've had to reframe my stance on meat-as-main due to a vegetarian daughter and I have to say, it's been fantastic.

Vegetarian Chilli
Cauliflower & Chickpea Curry
Lentil, Kale, & Couscous Salad
Falafel Wraps with Tabouli & Hummus
Grilled Veg on the BBQ (Zucchini, Pumpkin, Broccolini, Capsicum) with Tahini Sauce
Kimchi Fried Rice
Stir Fried Tofu & Chinese Greens

All quite filling and easy to make. Still looking for more recipes to keep the other non-vegos interested.

I assume they mean don't buy a 6kg bag of poptarts.

Not, don't buy a 25kg bag of basmati rice for not that much more than a 2kg package.

You could just reduce this down to “Don’t buy Pop Tarts”

I too need good vego recipes

Woohoo - fuel has dropped below $2.00 a litre at Main North Road, Pooraka!!!

Was 1.10 and 0.99 for Diesel here the other weekend at a couple of servos, it was ****ing madness. I've never seen anything like it in the Hill. Cars line up for blocks and blocks, around corners, in to lanes. Workers having to do traffic control.

Sound delicious - please pm me recipe (I'm not much chop at cooking)

On SM-A326B using BigFooty.com mobile app

Done.

Bomber’s Chilli Con Lentejas

250 gm Swiss mushroom, finely diced (a mix of Swiss and Button 'shrooms works well also)
1 x tin lentils, drained and rinsed (or use 250gm dried red lentils, soaked for 4 hours and rinsed)

1 x red onion, finely diced
1 x red capsicum, finely diced
2 x green chillies, seeded and chopped finely
1 x small bunch of coriander, chopped
1 x tin of kidney beans, drained and rinsed
2 x tins crushed tomatoes (plus half a tin of water)

1 dash of tamari soy sauce
1 tsp cumin
1 tsp paprika
1/2 tsp chilli powder (or cayenne pepper)
1 dash of Tabasco Hot sauce (green)

1 tbsp polenta
1 x lime

Optional: 1 x Massell Stock Cube (added at the same time as the spices)

Method:

Heat some veg oil in a large heavy based pan or dutch oven on a med/high heat
Add the mushrooms and salt them while cooking to extract moisture.

Sprinkle the cumin, paprika and chilli powder onto the mushrooms while browning.
Once the mushrooms are golden brown, splash a small dash of soy sauce and stir, then add the lentils, the onion, and capsicum and stir for ~3 mins.

Add the crushed tomatoes and the half a tin of water, season with salt and pepper. Reduce heat to medium and cover. simmer for ~7 mins.

Sprinkle the polenta over the surface and then stir into the mixture well. Add the green chillies, the coriander and the kidney beans. Cover and simmer for ~7 mins.

Add a squeeze of lime juice and a dash of Tabasco before serving.

Serve in bowls with a side of corn chips, grated carrot, slices of avocado, and a dollop of sour cream. Have a bowl of lime wedges ready to go while you eat.

Goes really well with ice cold lager or pale ale.

Edit: Fixed some errors in the ingredients, namely

1 tbsp cumin
1 tbsp paprika
1/2 tbsp chilli powder (or cayenne pepper)

should be:

1 tsp cumin
1 tsp paprika
1/2 tsp chilli powder (or cayenne pepper)

Teaspoon not Tablespoon. It would blow your head off otherwise :)

Did lol at the very old woman being shuffled into the polling station by her daughter telling the officers that she has dementia and just came from the nursing home. Surely at that point you don't need to vote, and if you do, whose vote are you really casting?

While queueing up to early vote in Munno I was treated to an abortive road rage incident — effing and blinding white suburban dad stopped marching towards the other vehicle when a 20-something Polynesian gym junkie got out of the passenger side with a ‘dude, I mean, look at me (OH THE FINGER THING MEANS THE TAXES)’ posture;

two maskless young Liberal HTV-volunteers who didn’t seem to notice they were the only ones on-site not wearing them;

and ultimately, the hottest, stuffiest, least ventilated room I’ve been in since the asbestos transportables of my primary school days (#democracycluster).

can’t wait to do it all again soon!

How awesome is tahini and why is it only ever spoken of in hippie and vego circles.

July 2020 - I paid 71.9 cpl for unleaded, so it's tripled in less than 2 years.
