Yeah this rental situation in Sydney is an outright nightmare

We can’t pay the $230 a week price hike our landlords asking for

But we also can’t be homeless.

Going to inspections the last 2 weekends and line ups down the street for places that cost an arm and a leg for a 2br unit with nothing more than 4 walls and a lick of paint from last century.

Went to a nice place that must have had 100’s of people go through it. They’ll almost certainly have people offer + $50 to $80 over the asking price to secure it.

Went to a place further out (about 40 min drive home from work on a good day meaning expect that to turn into 1hr+ at least once a week) that didn’t have a long lineup. They want $765w and it was a dank moldy cave with no air conditioning.


have 3 weeks to find something or be out on the street with my 6 month old kid.

They’re putting renters between a rock and a hard place.

At some point it’s not even worth it being here to do my job. Just go back to Adelaide , where my job doesn’t exist and collect the dole.

That era was cheap as dogshit about 5 years ago. Now everything is priced ridiculous.

He says for the past 6 or so months if a place is advertised at $500 a week you can pencil in getting at least $75 a week overs
