De la would be the pics of the comp after winning the gf last year and having a strong base of players coming through, both form school 1st X1 and players from last years premiership. Xavs and bernards along with marcellin would also be the contenders, they would be the top 4 you would think based on last year. Cant tip against another de la vs Xavs gf, was a cracker last year, lets hope the standard of the comp is as sensational as it was last year

Its U/19 premier now though..

Anyone know if Bernards and Skevs were full strength on the weekend?

bernards had a fair few players out in both of there teams that played on the weekend though skevs do look like they have improved from last yr....bernards play again this week against rupo will be good to see how rupo fair as there are people who keep saying they will be the ones to beat this yr

St Bedes Mentone has smashed De La Salle in the practice match by 40 points... De La with an apparent full team has lost to a St Bedes nearly full team... with exceptions to players who are eligible but will be playing seniors all year. St Bedes Mentone after saying that are a powerhouse just being promoted from section 3 now in section 2... This does not reflect De La having as bad year this year but St Bedes definately being section 1 standard...

I was at the practice match and de la salle looked ordinary. They must
have a few out, otherwise its going to be a long year !!

Not close to a full strength side played for dela. All you have to do is look at the preseason in 06 when dela lost to 2nd or 3rd division Trinity to know that practice matches mean nothing.

is De La able to field an unders twos team in the under 19 south comp this year? theres a spot open due to a side pulling out- is anyone able to enlighten me?

Enough of the sh*t talk boys

Round 1 is here and we'll soon see where teams a situate for the year ahead

Round 1 action
St. Bernards[/B] vs Carey - you would have to think Carey coming into A grade or premier division as it is now known will find it tough against an always competitive st Bernards

Uni Blacks V De La - who know what could happen here, Uni sides are always very up and down, but early in the yr usually dont get things together yet. De La boys have talked them selves up this yr so lets see if the can produce

Rupo v Marcellin- heard rupo lost or only just beat Banyule in a praccy game which leaves them a long way behind. Only held together by a few players last yr and cant see much depth from them. Marcellin always there abouts, will be ineteresting to see if they are as depleted as previous yrs due to a struglling seniors side

Xavs vs St Kevins- Xavs always strong, have a solid pool of players to choose from which leaves them always more than competitive. Should account for Skevs boys easily

Scotch vs Uni Blacks- Again uni boys dont get things together early, with two teams in A grade you would think they would lack consistency and depth. Scotch should be them easily

Well boys, lets leave the talking to on the field and we'll see how things pan out after round 1

Godd luck

Here's my take):

Bernies to beat OC: Added depth of a second bernies team should help a lot. That said, however, with OC the newbies and suffering praccy defeat - should be very keen to show some real grit early, so could be a closer one.

The Bellars to beat Uni Blacks: Again, not sure of blacks, but it'd be a brave man who tips against de la after last season and having lost relatively few players.

Uni Blues to beat Scotchies: Blues apparently a big team again this year, so think the early physical presence might be a bit too much for scotch in round one. Was very close to going with scotch though (heard they're big improvers and we all know they had a top firsts team last year) - so they are my smokey... and i'd love to see them give it to uni.

Marcellin to beat Rupo: Was tempted by the road-train's reported top pre-season and their seconds team, but have heard good things about marcellin and last season seemed uncharacteristic of them: struggling with numbers etc... So going to tip them as big improvers and a good win here.

Xavs to beat Skevs: Skevs would have to have made a huge improvement and xavs would need to slip a fair way to give this to the skobbas. Xavs always a bit of a boogey-side for skevs in the ammos, so would think xavs to do it comfortably.

Cheers. (giv's your tips fellas)

St Bernards to beat Old carey by 15 points
De la >>>>> Blacks by 50 points
Scoth over Blues by 17 points
Marcellin drawing with Rupo
Skevs narrowly accounting for Xavs.

Bit of a change up for you.

Predictable results from round one: Xavs pumped Kevins, De la easily beat Uni Blacks, and Bernards had a comfortable win. The Marcellin/Rupo game must have been a beauty. Shapes as a good year.

Did anyone see the scotch v blues game?
If so, fill me in! Close all day? Anyone to come back for either team? Style of play? Prediction for future matches?

Cheers.
