That is a pretty reasonable assessment.

My gripe is that the conservative side of politics win elections with virtually zero stated policy and get by on culture wars and attack campaigns alone.

The net result of this is that there is no political debate or discussion, just a race to the bottom to obtain power for powers sake.

I had this discussion with someone the other day and I challenged them to name Trump's policy on anything. IMO Trump doesn't have one. He does stuff, his China treatment has pivoted many times, he has sooked endlessly about NATO but has no real stated end game, same with the UN, he has pulled out of the WHO but for what, he doesn't like ANTIFA who as far as I can see are not much more than an idea, he doesn't like socialism but the USA is hardly under attack from socialism, yada yada yada.

There is no coherent policy on anything that I can see - just a bunch of thought bubbles.

How can humanity progress if there is no plan? The private sector can wing it to a degree but the private sector only has an interest in what they can profit from. Who is responsible for everything else? This is my view if the failure of the promise of small government.

Was always going to be the perfect storm - narcissists are shit Leaders , Trump is transactional and devoid of any morals/beliefs/vision except self aggrandisement plus he is a thick as two short planks and he can't implement strategy if his life depends on it.
What could possibly go wrong

Conservatives do what smaller government. I don't think it's possible with an opposition party because even a freeze on spending growth is considered a cut to services and that does poorly at the elections.

You remember how the legislative reacted to spending cut proposals from Tony Abbot back when the revenue was falling? It was a swift no.
So your hypothesis is that Conservatives want smaller government, but there's no sign of that happening (we're talking about the US here) in the last 50 years and in the last 20 years, the opposite has been true. Do you think that you might be wrong? They're saying it, but they never actually do it!

The Republicans controlled the Senate, Congress and Presidency for the first 2 years of Trump's term and they exploded the deficit to $1 trillion with tax cuts and increased spending. They can never claim to wanting small government ever again. They will, but you and I both know it's not true. If you continue to believe them, then you're being misled and allowing yourself to be misled for some other reason.

Lol, are the Trumpers really making the argument about the media calling the election? He gave his victory speech after the media called it in 2016, well before the count finished.

He's shot his load with this rigged election crap. Look at the way Fox cut away from Kay Kay this morning, people aren't taking what he says seriously any more. I'd imagine most of the focus of the Executive arm would now be devoted to reigning in Trump's worst instincts for the next eleven weeks.

Not getting excited over Fox are ya? C'mon man!

Quarter of a million people dead and rather than rejoice at a potential vaccine, he's plays the victim; always the victim. Smartest man in the room, in the most powerful chair in the world, stable genius, expert on everything, know the best words ... yet always seems to fall victim to some dastardly scheme.

Can you appreciate the history behind the socialist wanting to keep records of politician opposition for later?

I think AOC has the right goal in mind, she wants the best for the people and her means of getting there is just different to how I would do it.
she’s asking people to keep receipts. Using past statements from people against them is politics 101. Somehow you’ve jumped to purges, talk about jumping the shark.

This, so much this. I genuinely get shocked when Trump supporters attack Biden as being senile or not able to string a sentence together when Trump goes in 15 different directions and never finishes with the point he was originally talking about. Trump wouldn't have been able to do a speech like Biden's the other day without talking about 100 other topics that meant nothing to the conversation.

That's the sign of someone going senile.
The typical Trump speech.

Making people accountable for their past actions and statements = fascism according to the right

Antony Green, on Trump's refusal to concede:
"As it stands, there is enough confidence in the result in states that have been called to say for certain that Joe Biden will be the next President of the United States.
Trump is within his rights to delay conceding until results are officially declared. But on the progressive results available, refusing to concede defeat at this stage looks like a desperate denial of the election result."

Just wanted to quote this again, because Antony Green is as impartial as they come and that article is a great explanation for those unfamiliar with the process of calling, conceding and declaring election results for US presidents. It is indeed a 'desperate denial' of a certain Biden presidency, there is no other way to cut it.

I'll keep saying it, spending cuts don't poll well.

Conservatives by ideology want lower taxes, less spending and less regulation. Smaller government.
