Calling people racist worked out well for the Dems also worked out well for the voice referendum when will you lefties ever learn.

This logic doesn’t make sense, wouldn’t you voted for the voice if people weren’t saying those who were voting no were racist?

It makes no sense.

Again I don’t think everyone voting no to the voice was a racist? But all racists were voting no, that can’t be argued.

Honestly think there's a bit of overreaction going on with the average american/working class stuff. Yeah its valid, but not the main factor I reckon.
It is a main factor.

The average person is seeing increased cost of living and thier saving being wiped out.

So when your party makes itself worse than said billionaire, one which I have never, nor will I ever, venerate, they need to be held accountable for the monster that they themselves have had a significant hand in creating. Yes he is a devil but it was the help from the Dems

As I said now is the time for introspection and planning for 2028 and beyond. Or don't.

I’d love the democrats to move in a more socialist Bernie style direction.

I just think they can still win even if they don’t do that, I almost wish they couldn’t, as it would force them to finally go progressive.

I'd like to think Australia is above this road, and that Dutton will never see power, but we haven't exactly had a great history of keeping the LNP out of power for long. They now have both murdoch and social media and plenty of time to spread their nonsense to angry gen x men.

I’m pretty sure Dutton wins next year unfortunately.

Just seeking clarification:

Are you accusing me of saying that "Trump’s core constituency of mostly white, working-class voters in rural America showed up in force" was a lie?
You said the following in your post:
Trump’s core constituency of mostly white, working-class voters in rural America showed up in force, winning him the critical battlegrounds of Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Georgia. He also picked up Iowa – three days after one of the nation’s most respected polls found him trailing Harris by three points.

Why do people keep pushing lies that can easily be fact-checked?
... profering the claim that this article is deliberately misrepresenting the facts.

This is what you have to prove: not that they are wrong, but both that they are wrong and are deliberately lying about it.

Does that clarify things for you?

Yahweh had some form of supernatural copulation with the young child better known as Mary, whom is only ever mentioned 3 times in the Bible, old man in the Sky supernaturally r*ped Mary, thought to be between 12-14 years of age.
Yeah, I assumed you were alluding to Muhammad and his young wife Aisha, I get where you’re going with this, it seems all 3 of the cults of Abraham are obsessed with young girls as sex slaves, objects, chattel, funnily enough, they all share the absolute hatred of the female birth canal and menstruation and its cycle, I don’t share their views as a matter of disgust!
Sheesh, even Buddha escaped the detestable woman’s birth canal by being birthed from a slit in his mother’s side.
Religious men hate women and their power to produce life, that’s why they want control over it, I don’t share their views and will fight against this wicked, evil, superstitious death cultish immorality.
Prepare for the right to attempt to make this an issue on Australian society!
What on gods earth does this have to do with the election? Take this weird crap somewhere else.

Ah nup, you’re projecting again, Jesus has no place in Australia.
Supernatural nonsense has no place in the public discourse.
America are about to find out how shit Jesus is at making America great again!
Just so we're absolutely clear, I'll assume you mean Christian supernatural nonsense? Other kinds are to be respected?
To be a little clearer still, would you care to explain why it is you think (Americans believe) Jesus is going to make America great again?

Look... I don't think you even read what I wrote that led to this little sideshow. Your responses to me have very little to do with anything I wrote.

Imagine a Bernie/AOC ticket
2 problems.

1) The Dems blew their chance by not picking Bernie. And burned him.

2) As of this point AOC is uninterested in stepping into that role. Maybe things will change in the next decade or so, but they need someone, like her, now. Not in the mid-2030s.

Sure, they had their reasons and their issues are legitimate. Its the idea anyone would believe that Trump is focused on fixing them thats the perplexing part - but I do totally get that some of these people have been disenfranchised to the degree they just go **** it, anyone other than the people there now.

They're not really the people I'm talking about though, more the people who actually believe that kids are going to school as boys and coming home as girls (again just to pluck one example). What percentage of Trump's base would truly believe that, or any of the other batshit insane easily disprovable stuff he spruiks - 15%? 20%?

And yep not saying you called me an idiot, just paraphrasing your assessment of my approach.

Cheers, watched it.

He identifies the economy/inflation, immigration and foreign policy as the main areas Trump won on. Thats not 'policy' or lack of from Harris;

  • as has been done to death, Biden could literally have not handled post-covid economy and inflation any better, leading among G7 countries. But people just see their groceries being more expensive than when Trump was in a vote accordingly
  • immigration, fair to say the Democrats have botched that, but again whats Trump's policy? Deport everyone isn't it, with no clue as to how that would actually be done in practice (he's been asked, and squibbed it every time)
  • foreign policy, again Democrats are bad on Israel/Gaza no mistake, but you really are in lala land if you believe any US administration is going to be different. Fair case to say Trump will be worse, "you have to finish the job"

So you've mischaracterised Tapper's take as being about 'policy' per se, and I'm happy to withdraw my labelling of him or CNN as idiots based on that.

i still think you being a bit holier than thou in your assessment of those that voted for Trump

but anyways

is what it is.

Haha please enlighten me.

#1. You're not paying 60% of your income in tax.

#2. The word income has a meaning. Flowers keeps missing that fundamental point.
#3. It doesn't matter where the hell you live, it relates directly to the level of taxable income.
#4. Indirect taxes (GST, land tax, etc.) are by definition not income taxes.

Its possible. Add income tax, GST, Council rates, land taxes, duties, fees and charges.

See #4.

Taxes are a mandatory contribution levied on corporations or individuals to finance government activities and public services

See #4. One subset is income taxes.

I was referring to paying 60% in income tax, assuming that person has a job and earns an income (say they are a remote consultant). You should read things a bit more carefully before you post.

Yes, and by referring to 60% in income tax (and repeating it), you have demonstrated your usual level of complete ignorance.

I feel to be somewhere in the middle here. On one hand, the more I've come to learn about Putin and his rule the more I've come to loathe him. But I've also loathed U.S foreign policy and the NATO organisation throught most of my waking adult life and I feel Ukraine is the poor victim lashed arms and legs akimbo with two skittering monsters on either side each trying to tear its soul apart.

The U.S clearly wants to blunt Russian ambition by throwing every Ukrainian corpse that it can gather into the gears of the grinder, hoping it will eventually choke and splutter. Ignore the surface platitudes - as a political entity the United States does not give a solitary f*ck about Ukraine.

Russia does not give a solitary f*ck about Ukraine either. 'Saving' it from Nazis? Don't make me laugh.

I would one hundred percent back a truly neutral Ukraine. A Ukraine that allows either skittering monster to swallow its soul? Well, its civilian population has my sympathies...
You get ukrainians are choosing to fight right? America isnt forcing them too. In fact america would prefer ukraine gave up a small amount of land for peace if they could. But ukraine doesnt want to. And fair enough.

If australia was invaded by someone and we choose to fight for our freedom would you be upset with america if they helped us out by supplying weopans?

Note america isnt selling weopans. They are giving them away for a good cause. The liberation of a people from a tyrant.

As Bill Clinton would say "It's the economy stupid."

When the younger people grew up without inflation ( Not a problem for twenty years) they got used to the cost of everyday items that they would purchase but these prices have jumped 50% over the time of the Biden administration. Once prices go up they never drop back so even if you get inflation under control it will continue to hurt. Inflation hurts everybody (even the smarties that profit from it.) Inflation usually rises faster than real wages.
You can spare me the Year 10 economics lesson - I know what inflation is.

Point is that, due to lag effects, it was due more to circumstance and poor timing than any economic mismanagement on the part of the Dems. Biden and the Fed appeared to have handled the inflationary spike (due primarily to emergency expansionary measures under COVID and supply chain interruptions from the war in Ukraine) without tanking the US economy. It should be a feather in the cap of the Dems for how well it has been managed as opposed to a reason to vote them out.

Trump enjoyed the fruits of a strong economy during his first term (albeit was unlucky in having to deal with COVID) and it looks like he will inherit a fairly healthy economy for his next term.

As for tariffs:
When you are the biggest economy in the world you set the rules for your own benefit. Trump's idea is " if you want to sell goods in the USA, I'm gonna make it cheaper if you manufacture here by jacking up tariffs rather than importing."
The question is - will it actually benefit the US? Targeted tariffs on specific goods - I can see an argument for. But 10% across the board and 60% on all Chinese goods?

Basic economic principles suggest that in the results in higher production costs, greater inefficiencies, higher inflation, lower GDP output.

"Manufacture it here?" Is the US really going to get back into low-skilled manufacturing? Where are they going to get the workers for all this increased production (particularly when they are deporting all the low-cost labour back south of the border) given they have an aging population?

I’d love the democrats to move in a more socialist Bernie style direction.

I just think they can still win even if they don’t do that, I almost wish they couldn’t, as it would force them to finally go progressive.
I both agree and disagree with this at the same time.

Problem is there are a lot of heavy left ideas that I think would win them more votes (student debt relief, expansion of affordable health care and being actively anti war)

But by the same token a lot of the left leaning takes on "culture war issues" (which to my mind shouldn't even rank in the top 200 of things to give a shit about, but apparently they do) that appear to be incredibly unpopular and turn a lot of people away. Anything you hear empty headed idiots refer to as "woke" tends to fall into this bracket (things like women's sports, gender identity of kids, diversity quotas)

So if they were to pivot towards the left without being too heavy on the culture war stuff they might have more success.

Trumpies since the election.

"Trump is not stupid"

"Trump is not stupid"

"Trump is not stupid"

"Trump is not stupid"

"Trump is not stupid"

"Trump is not stupid"

Then, when his stupidity is proven beyond doubt

Fair enough. I think now the thing to focus on is his results. Let's just see what he does as president in his second term.
