Two of the division 3 teams (Lalor and Reservoir) are struggling and their future isn't assured. The travel Ivanhoe faces (Kinglake, Kilmore etc.) isnt always local either. The change to NFL will have some people scratching their heads.
Yeah I'm not sure about the move but it's good for the Northern League. And Ivanhoe to Kilmore is similar to Ivanhoe to Peninsula, the rest wouldn't be too bad.

I think it’s a rabbit hole that I wouldn’t want an amateur club to go down, how many semi-professional and country clubs have folded in recent years? Without knowing the going ons at Ivanhoe, perhaps exploring a merger with another VAFA team may make sense?

Having said that, Banyule seems to have made a fist of it changing competitions, but how long will that last?
I'd suggest the set of circumstances facing our club are a bit different to many of the larger clubs in the VAFA.

All options were looked into - mergers, moving comps and staying in VAFA. This is what they have put forward and we will see how it ends up.

I doubt Ivanhoe will be the only club to move or merge or fold.

Maybe external of the club there is some 'scratching', but not what I am hearing. Of course there are questions, concerns and opinions - it's a significant move. But being worked through in full consultation with internal / club people.

Probably two - one more openly than the other possible option.

One or two others may be more likely to head eastwards instead some time soon. One or two maybe looking southwards judging by chat elsewhere.

Other factors will come into play such as the MPNFL looking to create a third division and the south-eastern clubs potentially leaving the Outer East - there are potential implications or opportunities for SFNL and VAFA clubs in the region associated with either of these happening.

Interesting chat, I know of no less than two Shit Footy League clubs looking seriously at joining the VAFA, both in their division one, one of which would shock many football observers, being a power club in their top grade.

It would be hard for a relatively strong club to join the VAFA considering they would need to start in Div 7.
Or, is the VAFA considering a change in policy??

And you’re going out the same way as opposed to crossing the city/river

Paradians? be the perfect fit from a geographical perspective.

You have to drive past half the league to get there anyway.

MR P, we have 68 under 19s this year, a competitive senior team, a 3rd placed reserves team and 53 under 17s coming through.

I think we will last a while, best thing we ever did. Name me an established senior club that has left the VAFA and struggled in another comp.

Parkside moved to NFL, however, their demographics are definitely more suited to VAFA than NFL

A lot of work goes into moving, including sponsorship, supporter base, player retention, local community spirit, player payments, etc

Ivanhoe will succeed as will Old Paradians. They both have great committees with common sense and business acumen.

Unfortunately the VAFA have become a south of the river competition and their major Focus is Premier A and B

That’s great to hear, although I don’t agree about the VAFA’s focus being A and B, they cannot control how any clubs function, just look at Old Carey in the last couple of years.

Correct, my understanding is that the VAFA doesn't really interfere with the running of a club, unless the club requests the VAFA do so, or that club is struggling off-field at the VAFA step in and help out.

Wtf shit response is that? Old Carey has lost huge numbers to paying leagues, mainly NFL and country leagues but has a very committed and productive committee and a determination to support the new young players coming through

I'm not sure Oldtimer was talking about the VAFA needing to step in to help run a club, more that the focus might be 'skewed' to the Prem divisions.

I couldn't believe it when at yours that you can't leave anything at the ground , everything has to be brought in and out , that's so hard for volunteers and shithouse by the school

Why can’t you name them ?
