No he didn't, and I'm sure his twitter box is getting a workout. Our very own Donald Trump. Have you got a twitter account Bedders?

Ludicrous conditions out west yesterday, U19s in (literally) 100km/h winds screaming down the ground. Four quarters of ugly tap-ruck-scramble-kick-wait for the ball to be retrieved. First time I have ever seen a boundary umpire score a behind from a throw-in near the fifty. In the end the fieldies just did a low ball-up where the ball would have landed on a normal day.

Couple of nailbiters there, any news from the De La game?

Cracking game with never more than a kick in it. Blacks with a few big names back fancied themselves at home against a De La side whose lack of depth is leaving them somewhat exposed (ressies didn’t score yesterday).

Howling breeze blowing across the ground towards the hockey pitch which meant goals could be kicked at both ends. A very tough contest and in the end a brave win by the Bellers who finished with only 18 fit men.

De La a very resilient team. Have a handful of stars but a lack of overall class might tell in the run home. Only as good as your bottom 4 or 5 players and at the moment ours is significantly inferior to other clubs. Hopefully that can be corrected in the next few weeks. Tough run home and need to win at least 3 of the last 4, which includes Blues and Collegians away.

Can't believe the scoreline in the St Kevins v Old Melburnians match yesterday. Give you an idea just how strong the wind was.

Watched the last quarter on VAFA TV and it was howling. Melbourne just stopped running. Crazy. Their kicking out of defence was hitting the wall of wind and falling short. Would have been smarter to run and handball more. But i guess they were cooked and didn't have it in them. Great crowd noise and player excitement as the comeback gathered momentum and then became apparent they were going to roll over them. Super stuff.

That was the low point of bigfooty IMO. Disgraceful. Karma bus indeed.
it must have been nasty.

on more pleasant things, you went to extreme lengths to prove you were not at the best run clubs game yesterday.....photograph and all.

penksi professes his love of collegians; jimmyjack professes his love of de la; pazza professes his love of the umps; bedford professes his love of brian…….. we know you are a best run club man. now is when we start to flourish. be out and proud like the others mr canada.

rumour has it there were murmurings among some st kevies/afl2s people at half time yesterday about the cost of cancelling the 2017 premiers merch order.

and stuff having another bye for the senior grades.

we live in interesting times.

When VAFA historians reflect at the St Kevins v Old Melburnians game in later years, they would look at the final score and think it was an easy win to SKOB, it was anything but that. And not too many teams could come from 50+ points down at 3/4 time and end up winning the game by 4 goals.

The photo was because of the bottom line. I couldn't resist. It was great.
I'm just a lover of all things Ammo NI. Was important that I was there.
And I'm always keen to post score and match updates for the masses.
Massive Claret and Stout fan.

Bit tough on the Bellers JJ...

Chatting to a mate he reckons the 2s at DLS are extremely young. Yesterday something like 13-14 players under 21 and a long injury list.
Surely in A Grade that makes things tough. Along with blokes overseas or out with injury I think the results are deceiving.

If the depth is bad as you suggest then you are saying that being in 4th is a monumental effort seeing as they have had a number of guys play VFL/VFL Dev or be injured and overseas and have made 3-4 changes a week for the last few weeks looking through the team lists.

Looking through the list Jake Williams hasn't played in the last 5 games and they have won 4 of them. Where is he? He will be a huge in when he comes back.

Is it an inditement on OM's? Like lets be honest 50 points up into a howling breeze surely you'd plug every player into the back half?

Did anyone see a significant shift in the way the game was played from q2 to q4? Like did SKOB do something totally different?

I'm intrigued by the Xavs result... SBMT have competed monumentally well over the last 6-7 weeks. What happened? They are playing a number of kids. I wonder if that is having an impact. hmmm

JSS - I watched quarter 4 and they looked tired with zero run. Kicking it 25-35 metres tops into a gale with no overlap or run was always going to play into SKOB hands. So without seeing quarter 2, I'm assuming that they ran out of legs.
Xavs are a strong bodied team. Never afraid of a rugby style push. Perhaps the wind and youth played into their hands. STBM will be glad the two behind them just fell short. Would have got them a little nervy if Trinity and Blacks had prevailed.

It’s a tough but honest assessment JSS. And you are correct on all counts. Twos’ are very young and we have had a few years of average U19s teams, which has been a rarity for DLS. Having said that this year’s group are pretty good and a few are now entrenched in the seniors. The real issue is that we lost some top end talent pre-season and then a heap of fringe guys left to play seniors in lower grades or other comps. Don’t have an issue with that that but it has made for a tough year in the ressies. Gun recruits Carey and Scipione have played 1 game between them all season and others have been missing but at the end of the day your best 22 is the team that runs out on any given day and all teams suffer from injures and unavailability. It’s just that our ability to cover absences atm is compromised by a lack of depth.

So yes all things considered it has been a monumental effort to be sitting 4th. Will chalk up more wins than 2015 when we played finals and may still miss out. Most seasons 11 wins get you in but this year will need 12.

Jake Williams and one or two others back after the bye I believe.

yeah interesting... its tough when the fringe players head off... those guys who play 5-6 senior games chasing cash at local SFL clubs i am sure.. i dont blame them...

it just shows how good clubs like xavs are at being able to keep those blokes around and develop from there unders...

3 u19s and all in top 4 looking at the tables... what a future DLS has if they can keep them around... thats the key. stopping them getting caught chasing the cash..

Williams back will be good for the Bellers.. his side ways movement and speed is so hard to stop...

good luck to your boys i say JJ.... I guess finals is in their hands now.. might take some grit and hard work...

how have the new coaches been this year? Not often a team changes a whole coaching panel like that ala richmond... Hartley still have that booming voice you can hear for miles?

Whose everyones tips to go down..

is it the T's or Blacks... who would have thought it would be either at the start of the year... I honestly thought it would be SBMT and OMS

Flip of the coin. As they don't play each other they could both lose last 4. Meaning they both drop of Beauy can win 2 of 4. Beauy do play STBM and Blacks (Blacks at Shark Park).
Stranger things. They have been much better last few weeks.

It’s not just blokes chasing coin but those who cannot nail down a regular spot in the seniors moving on to other VAFA clubs in lower grades. Had never really thought about the Xavs example but you make a good point. They seem able to hang on to good senior fringe players who are happy to play 100 reserves and a handful of senior games over a 10-year period. Means the depth is always good and not many clubs have that luxury. The reality is that not all that many 19s can make the transition from unders to A grade so it is more about the quality than quantity but his years Prem 19 team seem to have a few likely types.

In regard to the coaches – while I still follow the club I do so more from afar and am not part of the inner sanctum. Actually had no idea all the assistants had changed over but results would suggest they are doing a reasonable job. I know Satterley is very highly regarded for what he has done with a group that probably lacks the overall class as other clubs.

A Statement from the President of St Kevin’s Old Boys’ Football Club (SKOB) Paul Murphy.

In recent days it has been bought to my attention that some distasteful rumours have been circulating on social media including untrue statements of an extremely personal and hurtful nature about one of our players and I would like to take this opportunity to set the record straight.

I can confirm that every player representing SKOB in the VAFA in Season 2017 is playing in accordance with the rules and spirit of Amateur football.

For the record, I can confirm that no player has received a financial inducement to play with the Club.

SKOB takes its responsibilities as a leading member of the VAFA most seriously.

I would like to commend the efforts of our coaching panel led by Shannon Grant. They continue to provide outstanding leadership to a fine group of young men and women who represent our Club with pride and distinction.

"Me thinks he doth protest to much"...........

"Me thinks he doth protest to much"...........
The irony in all this is how much mileage the club should get from it internally. "It's us against the rest of the world", etc etc. Great thing to happen to the club 4 weeks out from finals. They will most likely be galvanised by this little episode. Presumably the opposite of the intended effect of the storyteller.

Or maybe Skobs started the rumour themselves to develop the siege mentality from within. Now that would have been clever.
