Round 1 V Warriors
Round 1

Coney Island Warriors Vs Baghdad Bombers at Van Cortlandt Park

Now THIS was a fairly large thread with metric tonne of activity to boot!

The Warriors have been berated in seasons gone past due to their lack of activity, but this seasons adaptation of Coney Island is a different beast altogether.

With nearly the full compliment of their list making a contribution over the course of the week, we had a match thread that topped 2000 posts with ease, and it wasn’t all one way in the favour of Baghdad, no sir it was not.

Winding back the clock to S23 and leading the charge for the Wazza’s was admin of the Sweet FA NaturalDisaster with 155 posts of tinned ham in what was a resume-material performance of spammy goodness. Everyone’s favourite Pacific Islander Tonga Bob hit post reply 123 times, but the big surprise packet was rookie DockerDen5215 with a solid century on debut. He didn’t middle one shot all week but he certainly got amongst it and had some fun, which is always encouraging for newcomers to the league.

Captain Rossy TheInjuryFactory had 80 posts in a relatively fiery encounter with the Bombers, whilst club stalwarts Al Bundy Raveneyes (60 posts) and RelaxMax (50 posts) brought their own unique style of humour to the thread.

Two of their recruits in kdavva74 and Test Tickle both enjoyed fairly active weeks with 42 and 40 posts respectively, with all of Testy’s posts made without any form of clothing according to him.

zackah posted some stuff, contributing to the thread 34 times, and 50-gamer and beer-enthusiast Dinsdale got into the thread with a solid 29.

Marquee off-season signing and multi-quote compatriot The Half Back punched out 28 of his own musings, with everyone’s favourite Harry harry000 and returning club legend toxic contributing nearly a page of content each in what was an encouraging display by the Coney Island middle-order.

Lord_Flashheart posted 16 times in between Whore Tree visits, Warriors stats-man FootyGuy13 knocked out 11, “debutant” Volbeat posted 10 times in between mouthfuls of cheesy puffs and yelling at his kitty, and old-timer Freofalcon made it into the thread 8 times.

This match thread had a little bit of everything, but as per usual it started off with some vitriol and angst and settled down after a few days and it was pretty enjoyable from start to finish.

The Coney Island Warriors are in great shape with their list as it stands, and fingers crossed they can keep up this level of engagement across the season.

The sim favoured the Warriors this time around, so they were able to come away with the coveted and newly introduced award - the BEEG Cup - on this occasion, but we will be looking to claim it from them when we next meet in round 17.

Raveneyes

Al Bundy made his debut way back in S19, and has stuck it out for longer than a qooty decade at his beloved Warriors, earning him this title of Coney Island’s finest stalwart from our particular match thread. Although not an overly heavy poster, he sits firmly in their upper-echelon for quality contributions, and he rarely wastes a post.

The Up and Comer

DockerDen5215

A baptism of fire for the young rookie upstart, coming up against the full might of the Bombers posting unit, but did he cower and hide? Nup. He immersed himself in the match thread and had a jolly good time, which was really encouraging to see. If he can stay interested and engaged, I’m sure he will feature highly at the pointy end of the season in the EKA. He has also dipped his toe in the murky waters of Sweet FA media, which will only further his standing amongst his rookie counterparts.

The Fallen Hero

Test Tickle

Now, this rating is not meant as a sleight on Testy at all, but to me he will always be a Las Vegas Bear. His vulgarity and willingness to shower with anyone, anytime, was a highlight of playing the Bears when he was there, and I never felt the Wazza’s were a good fit for him. They DO have the Whore Tree though, so that may have been a deciding factor in the human aggot’s defection to Coney Island this season. Here’s hoping he can find his mojo and get back to the Test Tickle that finished top 5 in the #beez not so long ago.

The Court Jester

RelaxMax

The artist formerly known as comewhatmay has a unique posting style, and is by far the wittiest and humorous poster on the Wazza’s list. Take the time to enjoy her efforts in the match threads and you will soon see why she has earned herself this title.

The People’s Champion’s People’s Champion.

harry000

Although HarryNumbers doesn’t have the shooping skills of his captain TheInjuryFactory , or the mass-posting capabilities of NaturalDisaster , in my eyes he is the best poster on the Warriors list. An extremely likeable and unflappable character with outstanding musical tastes, you won’t often see him posting huge numbers, but when he does post, it’s quality.
Take the time to engage him on the Sweet FA board and you’ll soon see why he has claimed the title of The People’s Champion’s People’s Champion.

Round 2 V Wonders
Round 2
West Coast Wonders V Baghdad Bombers @ The Colosseum

In round 2 the mighty Baghdad Bombers made the trek to the Colosseum to face off against the rebuilding West Coast Wonders, and boy did it deliver. Experienced Sweet FA’er haydo and his sidekick Cadsky faced an uphill battle trying to get some activity back through the doors at the club they love so dearly, but they’ve done a decent job of it so far. Collectively, they’ve managed to get some warm bodies into the match thread which was a far-cry from S30 when the hapless Wonders struggled along amidst RL crisis’ and a general lack of enthusiasm. A testament to club stalwarts ClarkeM and SSwans2011 for sticking fat and steadying the ship through S30, a season which was extremely tough due to a global pandemic and a mass-exodus at the end of S29, with said exodus leaving a meteor-sized hole in their posting ranks. Fast-forward to round 2 of S31 and it’s a different Wonders outfit altogether. dogs105 re-discovered some mojo and made his way into the thread 182 times, leading the charge for the revamped Wonders outfit. Haydo’s trusty sidekick Cadsky posted 126 times against his former club, whilst Grand Uncle Horace shook his fist and yelled at clouds all week, clocking up a respectable 124.

Staunch and dedicated Wonder croweater 41 has made a solid return to the league after a 3-4 season hiatus, posting up a storm with 95 of his own and doing plenty of “research” as Victoria went into lockdown once again. SweetD also fell just short of a century with 93 in his 50th SweetFA match, with bomberlegend2007 and Crusty Undies both bowled out for 88 apiece in what was a respectable outing for posters of their caliber.

Experienced skipper haydo posted 79 times and was a shining light for the home side, along with Hawk-turned-Bomber-turned-Wonder ArdentEagle who was in his element against his former teammates.
jezzajay also had a really encouraging week with 52 posts, whilst the heart and soul of West Coast ClarkeM managed a really well thought out 45.

250-gamer SSwans2011 had a decent outing of 27, JT_the_Man popped in with 25 of his own, and Kangaroos4eva chimed in for a cameo with 23.

AngryRanga had 20 posts but he is very much a quality-over-quantity type, and his contributions to the thread were elite for the home side. Delisted Warrior craffles continues to stick it up his old club and chug beer cans and mushrooms dicks from the sidelines posting an admirable 17 times, mostly telling Tony Lynn 15 how sexy he is whilst throwing beer cans at everyone, including his new teammates. Former captain Sab22 was a sight for sore eyes and it was great to see him up and about after a tumultuous 2020, chin up Sabby, and 400-gamer BallaratBulldog was vibing with the other canines in the thread, sinking cans. Boom recruit akkaps posted 8 times but didn’t make the final cut in his teams loss, and BlueMaster1 popped in a couple of times to say “sup”. Worth mentioning was the sighting of two of my favourite former Wonders, U2tigers and Cactus_ , which was encouraging to see, and we all hope they make their way back to the league sooner rather than later.

The Wonders of S31 had nearly the full complement of their list contribute to the match thread, which was a monstrous 100-plus pages, and they are certainly a far-cry from the S30 iteration who struggled along for activity due to a multitude of reasons.

All in all I’d say it’s a step in the right direction for the rebuilding Wonders, and over the course of their journey they will find more cohesion as a posting unit once they gel and learn each other’s running patterns.

A big thank you to them for hosting the Bombers last week, and I’m sorry you couldn’t get the win for SweetD’s and Swannies milestone matches.

Chin up lads, you’re on the right track.

Up next, the all-important ratings.

I don’t know why you waste your time with this to be honest.
Once the game is done, I tend to just laugh and move on to the next. But hey, you do you.

Don’t worry Clarkey, I’ll be doing a couple of survey threads specifically for you, I know you love them.

Well if you enjoy it, great. I for one couldn’t care less about the opposition.

Charlie just became smart due to a trial drug, and the gang tried to catch a rat.

They got high on petrol.

You know that feeling you had, maybe in high school, when someone said something that made everyone laugh at you. Then for the next few days you play that over in your head saying “boy, if I had my time over, I would of said this.”

That’s what I believe the Bombers do every week. Let them have it, I say.

Nearing the big 400, Crowy heads a list of 3 that could’ve made this rating, but his efforts and humour throughout the match thread put him slightly above the rest. Has a likeable persona and is certainly one of the better posters for the Wonders, and the league is lucky to have him contributing again.

He’s been around a couple of seasons now, and young jez is going from strength to strength. He had a really encouraging week versus the Bombers, and I can only expect we’ll be seeing more of the same. Another product of the Dingster recruitment factory.

Crusty Undies

Now this is not meant to be a dig at him at all, as he can be a genuinely funny and witty poster, but the match thread took a few dips and turns and it wasn’t a pretty place to be at times. Hopefully he can stay engaged and get back to posting to his strengths, with the focus being his charm and charisma, which he has in spades.

dogs105 and ArdentEagle

It was a genuine line-ball decision between the two here, and in the end I couldn’t split them, being the two funniest opposition posters for the week. Both of them were equally entertaining and took the match thread in the right spirit, whilst eliciting a few chuckles from their Bomber counterparts in the process.

No contest here IMO, the aggressive redhead was/is the best poster on the Wonders list. Another likeable persona with a unique posting style and sense of humour which is sure to please the masses. Hopefully he can post a bit more in our next encounter, as the Wonders contributions are richer for it.

So there’s another week of analysis and ratings ticked off the list, and this week we’ll be heading to The Golden Throne to resume hostilities with one of my personal favourites, the Royals from Gold City.

ClarkeM clearly salty I’m rated higher than him again like I was for many seasons.

He did set the bar painfully low, but I stand by my ratings.

Hows the “research” coming along? Get any natural light today?

You should do your own team too but then you'd have to find a single redeeming quality for a bomber and that just isn't feasible hey.

I'd also like to give a special shoutout to bomberlegend2007 who this week won the internal award for best at riling up opposition captains.

You’re not having a great week are you Crusty? I was merely paying you a compliment but you come in here foaming from the mouth like a rabid dog.

Did he post in other match threads that we weren’t aware of? All I had to do was tag him once and I’ve been renting space in his head ever since :tearsofjoy:

Hopefully you’ve simmered down in a couple of months when we play each other again.

You should probably check in on your teammates more often Horry, it may save them the embarrassment of coming in here half-cocked when someone offers them a compliment.

I’m merely providing valuable content for the league to digest, and for wheezing colostomy bags like yourself to shake your fist at.

Go make me a corretto.
