Ask him if DJ is playing next time
Yeah, said he'd been playing well down back - made a few mistakes but was reading the play well and cutting off attacks into 50.

Gave me the full time report - was really surprised with Dawson Simpson, moved well and was agile for a guy of his size. Otto spent some time on the ball and was good. McKenna kicked two really nice, goals from range. Varcoe continued to impress.

BEST:
Geelong: Hollmer Moles Podsiadly West Tutungi Varcoe

Nice spread of goalkickers there. Good to see West amongst the best again too.

Winty, can you see any of these young players in the AFL side next year? I think McKenna looks a player but needs some work in the gym. Do you see anyone stepping up next year?

I'd like to see Hogan, Djerrkura and Gillies get more of a run in the seniors. Laidler's another one. I'd have said either Mitch Brown or Scott Simpson too, but it'll depend on how they recover from their injuries.

Having said that though, like I posted in another thread, it all depends on whether the coaches want to play young players in the seniors, or shuffle the team around to try and plug the gaps like they have in the last few weeks especially.

I know/hope they won't consider taking Ottens up to ANZ stadium. However, is this the type of performance we were looking for? Does this mean he will be able to come back and make an impact against the Bulldogs and Freo?

It certainly seems to bode well for him to be in some sort of form heading into the finals!

My thoughts

Moles: My best on ground and the best game I've seen him play Given an armchair ride by our dominant Rucks and did well around the ground

West: Played entire game as centre half back and full back and did a great job and took some strong marks.

Ottens: spent first quarter in forward line little impact then alternated between ruck and forward line. Played entire game and kicked 2 goals. Still favours one leg when walking sometimes and when rucking didn't try to jump just used body position

Blake: Played a very good game and his tap work against the weaker opposition was excellent and kicked 2 goals

Dawson Simpson: Never been impressed by dawson but today he looked as he may become a good footballer in the future. Very competitive.

McKenna: played back and forward and kicked 2 very nice goals in the 3rd quarter. Needs to go and eat at tommahawks place for a while but could develop as a player who can swing both ends

Hunt: Played a good game with some nice dashes out of defence Came back on in the last after limping of the ground earlier with an ankle?

DJ: Played a great attacking game from defence always in and under or gliding across to pick of a lead coming in. Probably will get a game next week

Varcoe: Shone in the last quarter after having little early impact

Laidler: Hardly noticed him but did his job on his opponant

Pods: Hard to see how this bloke was rejected as an AFL player as he has it all at this level

I mentioned him earlier in the thread...was sensational both times I saw him at the carnival and apparently was lively today. The question mark (as always) was his size but if he could match it with the big lads today, he should have increased his chances of getting a spot on an AFL list.

Is that the same McNeil that played for NSW? Whats he doing playing VFL for Geelong?

Yeah, I think so. Although he's technically NSW he plays (captains) the Bushrangers in the TAC. This season they've introduced a new scheme whereby TAC and VFL sides align and give players a chance to taste senior footy ala the WAFL/SANFL. Geelong is aligned with the Bushrangers and I guess with all the injuries Dylan got a chance.

Who was playing on Sautner tiredcat? I noticed he only kicked a couple, allowing Pods to get within 4 goals of him for the season.

Holmer when he was at true fullforward but we smashed them in the middle and across 1/2 back so he had to wander upground to get kicks. Westy picked him up when he came out and also Ben Johnson for a while. Hardly got a kick until last quarter
