According to the paper today Stringer has had an ankle op

You're kidding me?

Geez, only a couple of games back after 18 months out and more injuries for him :(

Stringer and Drum have had horrible luck with injuries since their arrival here.

Poor bloke hasn't had a fair chance to even get out there, let alone press for a senior list spot, and now this? Very, very harsh. :(

Is that ok, Exhale? Just my opinion.

I was simply interested in why you believed we should have won today, that's all.
I didn't think it would be that difficult a question to answer.

Who is H Vardy? I had no idea they were calling him Hank Vardy now :D

Seriously, thanks Ammo for the final stats and Roj for the report (hope you got some photos too today).

Very pleased to see little Stevie and Nathan play well, they'll be playing seniors at some stage this year I reckon.

The club website says:

In other news, Cats youngster Jesse Stringer suffered a partial tear of his ACL and a sprained ankle at training on Thursday. A decision on whether surgery will be required will be made in the coming weeks.

Poor kid :(

Saw the second half... Bathie (I think?) kicked an awesome goal. A snap for goal from another player went high up and landed in the goal square. Bathie jumps and kicks in one action (a la Wells), amazing for a big bloke.

Want Vardy in the team now. Great competitor, keeps reminding me of N Riewoldt (although obviously a long way to go). Thought he had his jaw broken in the last, but recovered. Brown should get his go, but I think Vardy will be first and they should be careful with Mitch this year.

Really like Schroder. Burbury did some nice things. Cowan got a bit, but sloppy errors. Lappin giving Blakey some coaching at 3/4 time. Bloody windy and slippery anyway, so, hard to judge skills. Didn't think Motlop was that great, but maybe I missed a good 1st half effort.

Here's a couple of snaps I took:

Sorry PO, there were no lasting injuries.. i didnt see the Joffa concussion.. Vardy was, but he got back out there after 5mins and got a bit of a rip from the bench for being off the ground again..

Anyone wantin to see photos, checkout my facebook page.. ArjOnlineImages.. for those at the ground know, it is restrictive viewing at the ground.. maybe 70m along the wing is the maximum distance.. so without a telescopic lens (like, one of those massive ones).. shots were hard to get

Curious if anyone who (semi-)regularly makes it to the VFL games is rating Blake much more highly nowadays? It sounds like he's improving a bit around the ground and kicking goals (maybe only rarely? I remember it was mentioned he kicked 2 I think a few weeks back).
You'd think it's Ottens' last season, even if he can retain his current stellar form right through, so would you expect Blake to be a chance to step up to no. 1 ruck? Simpson seems to be the only real alternative at the moment, or at least that's my impression, with Vardy and West both really better suited to Hawkins' current role.

RR is in a much better position to comment than me. However from what I saw at Sandy, and taking a lead from the coaches recent comments, Blake will need to be more than a one trick pony before he gets a senior call-up.

The club is working to add another string to his bow the coach has said, but from what I saw and from others comments he's still pretty much a one trick pony.

I reckon it would be a retrograde step to play Blake at present. Vardy and West would be in front of him IMO.

On Blake no on what I've seen. He's working hard and I've commended him on that but he's still largely dimensional. Has done well in the ruck and worked harder, but ruck won't get him a game unless Otto is injured, he needs to improve as a forward in his ability to mark which is very low, and read the play while forward. On what I've seen, West Simpson and Vardy are far far ahead of him on that particulat measure. Combine that with the fact that Blake is also poor in a marking contest when the opposition ruckman drags him forward, and he's going to find it hard to get a game.

I only see it happening, for example against GC, if Ottens is rested, and the other ruck options are injured (which I think Simpson and West currently are RR?). If they're all fit Blake will be the last one picked.

That said, he's doing the best he can to improve, and while I think the task is probably beyond him, effort is all you can ask.

What is going on with Dawson Simpson at the moment?

From what I read on here somewhere, he copped a leg injury a couple of weeks ago....and as far as I know he hasn't played since.

IIRC, it was first reported as a corkie, but it must have been worse than that to keep him out of the side - unless he is nursing another injury.

Bad timing for Dawson....apparently he was going ok without setting the world on fire, and with Scott looking to rest Otto soon he may have been in the frame for a game if his form was thereabouts.
