Just don’t think he is ready yet
His positioning his very iffy
Great with ball in hand but doesn't work hard enough off the ball
Yeah maybe not ready just yet but man it’s hard for him being the main key forward every week and he’s only just a bit bigger than a small forward

I reckon he’s doing pretty well

It really annoys me the way they use Stack at VFL level. He gets starved out of the game sitting in the forward line.

Should be using him the same way we did MJ when he played at this level. Need to be giving him a run on ball to keep him involved, especially when we're getting well beaten in the midfield like in that last quarter.

It’s mind boggling isn’t it

Get him in the guts, improve his fitness, footy, and mental health

He’s going alright but can’t see him offering us anything Castagna wouldn’t be already but Castagna is a better mark and works up the ground

We were 5 goals up during the first half despite only getting 5 free kicks in the half and that was because the Hawks pressure was nowhere near the level it was after half time.

Sure the hawks lifted after halftime and our mid's shat the bed when the heat got put on them. However, the hawks wouldn't have lifted if they were out of the game by then

Delistings are going to happen, who are your delistings for this season?

All the players I have mentioned are on an expiring contract.
All I will say is that we are needing to manage the transition away from our aging premiership stars, we aren't going to gut all the kids on our list that we are meant to build around. The number of list changes you are suggesting would be that of a team bottoming out and doing a full rebuild. Given we really only have 3 key picks to work around this draft, that's just not going to happen.

Umps were ****en appalling but the more
Mature bodies of box hill started having an effect the longer the game wore on. You could see them start to really crack in hard after halftime. Dow was our only
Mid that kept going under the onslaught and Hugo the only runner that kept running hard.

Well I had to name a some players. I probably won't be right on all of them. Can't offer all the players I named a 1 year contract extension and not enter the draft.

Unfortunately the reality is that some players are decent VFL players but not AFL standard that's all and that's where the off season part is going to be the hard for the coaching staff.

They were effectively 5 goals down in the first half and the game should have been over, but we let them back into the game late in the second quarter and when they got the chance to address their lack of intensity at half time, it became a completely different game. That happens when you're a young side up against a mature side, the umpiring had nothing to do with it IMO.

Hard to tell watching TV but it looked an almost gale force wind in the last quarter. Understand the mids dropped off but 4-5 goals assistance to them certainly didn't help the situation.

Don’t know if don’t try
Sick of Castagna’s selfishness and shit skills
Has no upside
Cumberland does, and it’s just effort and fitness to run up and back which of course he can do

He hardly ever works hard off the ball and works up the ground

Until he does it at vfl level he won’t get a look at afl level

The umpiring was atrocious, but who's expect any better.

The hawks mids put the foot down and ours went to water. I've generally been quite supportive of Ross and RCD and have been waiting for them to stand up and start to deliver. They did for bits but when the pressure was on they showed no fight at all. Last week Ross had 20 first half touches, but almost none of them were first hands at the coalface ala Dion Prestia or Cotchin. Same again this game, got a few clearances but very few times first hands on the ball after a ruck contest in a tight situation.

RCD showed no fight at all to get to the coalface like he had done in previous games I watched, was he looking for the loose ball easy midfield touches like he got in the first Q.

Dow was the only one besides Aarts that had a crack in the last. He was the only one on the move at the ruck contests, the only one who was putting body on body before the contests and consequently the only one that got any inside ball at all. He is just not quite strong enough to break a pretty seasoned hawks midfield, but at least he tried to the end. Aarts is just to small and slow but at least he has a crack.

What are they doing to Stack. Why when the game is on the line are they still continuing to play potentially our best half back (maybe in the club if he got going) in that forward line role where he has done nothing all year. When the game was on the line put him to half back or something, on the ball. His desperation and desire is there, but let him get some form up where he knows how to play.

Cumberland deserves a crack. He is a good one on one player and has the confidence to do things most don't try. Has the pace and marking ability to be something different up forward.

All the new recruits are way off, so small with barely a muscle between them. They might be players next year.

Miller at least had a very good game and finally showed that if he attacks the ball he can actually play.

Did I mention the umps....

Bit harsh

So he’s expected to be the main number 1 forward inside 50 and run up and down as well as George does just to get a look in?

I agree he probably should clunk a few more marks and apply a bit more pressure/work harder but you’re expecting too much

If he wants to make the jump to afl level that’s what is required, look at the mountain of work Rioli was doing at vfl level before getting his call up

Was always trying to create space, impact contests and inject himself into the game, likewise for Aarts and Stack always working and having a crack if he drops a mark he’s trying to tackle and win the ball back

Cumbo doesn't do any of those unsexy things

If he wants to make the jump he needs to play like an AFL player at VFL level kicking a few goals won’t cut it

That’s what i think. He’s the only one that looks likely to kick a goal and always has blokes hanging off him. I reckon he’s ready and should take George’s spot.

Some other damning stats beside the free kick count which everyone seems to be blaming for the loss.

Clearances 40-31 despite hitouts being 22-44. Tackles were 48-24 and inside 50s were 62-47.

When you're getting well beaten in clearances, not being defensively accountable by tackling and losing the I50 count by 15, you're always going to be under the pump to hold on in a game where you were leading by 5 goals. The umpires don't lay tackles nor do they win clearances and that is where the Hawks got back into the game and eventually the win.

10-20% increase would suffice?

I think he needs to improve his work rate too but not as much as you’re expecting considering he’s the main forward inside 50 in VFL
He can only do so much

If he gets the call up to afl he would be playing as a small, so needs to display those traits

We have, Lynch and Jack playing as lead up marking targets so it would be silly to throw cumbo into that mix at afl level playing as a leading marking target

Our forwards have kicked over 100 points the last 3 weeks in a row so the mix is good with the current set up so if you are replacing Castagna or Rioli you would be looking for another similar type of player

You could replace George with anyone and it would be an upgrade. He doesn’t hit the scoreboard and the so called pressure is a farce, never lays a tackle. He wouldn’t get a game in any other AFL side.

Yeah I know that’s the thing.. hes neither a true small or a true key forward

But u have to reward form at some point
He’s clearly a natural forward with great goal sense and X-factor

He does lay a big tackle too, just wish he would increase that and his pressure
