Currently down by 5 points at half time, 2.1.13 to 3.0.18.

First quarter was pretty ordinary, but play opened up a bit in the second quarter and we got some good passages of play happening at times. Just had a few off handballs or players fumbly below the knees and have been made to pay for it.

Lost count of how many times an Essendon player has either jumped on the ball and not even tried to get rid of it, or dropped the ball as soon as they were tackled and got away with it, yet when we try to move the ball on when we get tackled we get pinged for incorrect disposal. Go figure.

Ended up winning by 2 points, 4.4.28 to 4.2.26

Goal scorers: Analea McKee 3, Emma Gilligan 1

Leading possession winners:

Charlotte Simpson 26
Renee Garing 20 (along with 11 tackles)
Ingrid Houtsma 16
Emily Ramsey 15
Abbey McDonald 15
Danielle Stewart 12
Breanna Pratt 12
Liv Fuller 12 (with 25 hitouts).

Good to see Poppy Schapp and Liv Cicolini back this week. Fair bit of talent being rested, but I'm guessing the AFLW girls will probably be starting their pre-season soon before the AFLW season kicks off in September, so it makes sense.

Couple of interesting things with selection this week:

  • Ingrid Houtsma is back in the side even though she's AFLW listed and they're in their pre-season at the moment.
  • Both Charlotte Simpson and Analea McKee are out of the side this week, but only Simpson is playing in the All-Stars match - McKee is being managed.

Sucks for our VFLW team, but awesome news for Analea!

Think that’s happened a few times with our VFLW players, and even seeing a number of Falcons being drafted over recent years

I knowe we haven’t had the success at AFLW level that we would all love to see, but we seem to be doing something right in terms of development at the lower levels

Very real chance we could miss the finals after being on top of the ladder a few weeks ago.

We're currently in 6th spot and play 3rd placed Williamstown away, who are currently on a 5 game winning streak. Essendon and Carlton who are nipping at our heels in 7th and 8th place respectively play the 2 bottom sides on the ladder.
