Richmond blew the Cats away, how was that rigged?
Not talking about the game - talking about the fact that Geelong had to play their home final at your home ground and then got flogged. If Geelong win that game Richmond on the other side of the draw playing the Crows at Adelaide Oval in the Prelim -ie no Premiership. SLIDING DOORS

Charlie Dixon lines up for goal at Geelong doesn't get called to play on - kicks the goal Port finish 2nd - Richmond finish 4th and play Crows in Adelaide first final SLIDING DOORS.

Ball bounces left not right Steve Milne kicks the goal and is a hero forever SLIDING DOORS

Loads of little things that could have produced a different result - it is what it is.

Just don't pretend that you don't get a bit of a leg up.

If Melbourne or St Kilda get a September miracle next year I will never watch another AFL game ever, that''s how confident I will be it's rigged. I always used to laugh at people who said cricket was rigged.
Why wait till next year? Maybe you should start watching professional wrestling? Or better still investigate the hoax that was the moon landing...

Hey if there''s nothing to see why do the AFL not allow Champion Data to publish data on number of goals from free kicks. While they don't allow that data to be published there is a big question mark in some people's minds and they ask the question why isn't it allowed to be seen even if everything is 100% OK.

Ooohhhh can I play this game? Atrocious deliberate decision not paid against Richmond in the fwd pocket in th final minute of their game against the dogs early in the year. The resulting throw in results in a tigers goal. Richmond win and finish 1st SLIDING DOORS
Goal is paid to Richmond just on 3/4 time siren against dockers instead of a terrible sheparding decision. Richmond is 1 goal closer at the break and Mundys goal at the end of the game has no influence on the result.
Richmond win and finish 1st. SLIDING DOORS
50 metre penalty is correctly paid to Richmond in the dying stages of the 1st game against the giants resulting in a set shot 10 metres out from goal. The resulting goal seals the game for the tigers.
Richmond win and finish 1st. SLIDING DOORS
These are just some of the terrible decisions that went against us this year as the team with the worst free kick differential in the comp. it didn’t matter in the end though did it?

You were implying it was deliberately rigged though and you would give up watching because of it if there was 1 more miracle flag.

Are you saying they did rig the Saints GF and it was only the dodgy Milne bounce which spoiled the AFL's predetermined outcome?

Are you saying the ump called Dixon to play on when he knew Dixon was not paying attention because he was directed to get the Cats up so Richmond didn't have to play week 1 of finals in Adelaide, even though it was only May.

That's some really bizarre tin foil hat stuff.

Finals are always at the G, it's been that way a long time, yes it helped Richmond but they didn't rig it to get them the flag. If it was Hawks v Cats it would have been at the G, just like it was in the QF in 2011 when the Cats were the higher team, it wasn't rigged to get the Hawks a flag, it's just how the finals system has always worked.

Because people such as yourself will draw ridiculous conclusions from it?
What about goals scored from missed free kicks?
Or goals not scored because of missed free kicks?

No not saying that at all. Not saying that its blatantly rigged but what I'm saying is cumulative decisions that go against you can end up in a changed result. Now I don't watch all Richmond games but the guy who mentioned a bunch of moments in games gave a decent example.

But of all these things not one is enough to perhaps change a result but all them together may change the result

Grand Final always played at MCG
Intestate teams at best play 2 games at MCG
Teams getting to play at MCG against Geelong while interstate teams would play them at Geelong
Travel interstate 10 times per year and possibly 12 inc finals rather than 6 or 7.
Having longer trips when you travel eg Brisbane to perth and Perth to Hobart while some Melbourne cubs get 2 trips to Adelaide
Inequitable draw where Melbourne clubs play each other twice regularly.
Marquis games all Melbourne based while interstate marquis games don't get televised on Channel 7
Interstate clubs not able to appear in person at tribunal
More difficult financially as interstate clubs get less televised games which leads to selling games and travelling to China to make money
Melbourne clubs more able to utilize free agency and appear to get better free agency compensation
Player retention issues and having to pay a higher wage to hold players and no COLA in place.
Money in SA & WA needing to be channeled to under-age development while AFL pays for this in VIC

Hawthorn was only close in one GF. We destroyed Sydney and WC. To suggest that the only reason WC and Swans lost the GF was because of the home ground advantage is letting them off the hook badly

Same goes for Crows this year
No one is suggesting that's the only reason, but we all saw what happened at subi in the qualifying final 3 weeks earlier. Not everything is black and white.

Thanks for clearing that up.
So when you stop watching AFL if the Demons or Saints get a miracle flag next year it will just be sour grapes, not because they rigged it as you claimed.

Hawks lost the best player in the comp to the Swans for pick 19, yeah, we did well there.
Swans lose grand final and get gifted Isaac Heeney at pick 18, poor hard done by buggers.

Is it possible that interstate team records become a bit inflated due to their substantial home ground advantage?
Just a discussion point.

West Coast for example:
9-3 at home
3-7 away
Did their substantial home ground advantage give them enough wins to scrape into the finals? When their true form without the substantial home ground advantage would possibly have had them miss the 8.
Are some interstate teams getting into the finals on the back of a home ground advantage that Vic clubs dont get V Vic clubs?

As I said, it's just a discussion point, please don't be offended.

It all irons out in the end. Because we’d probably win more if we didn’t travel as far every 2nd week. Doesn’t the same go for some vic clubs who only travel 5 times? If they only lose those ones and win all Melbourne games that’s a decent record

For me the problem isn't having the GF at the MCG that's a reality that isn't going to change. The issue is teams being able to play large numbers of games at that ground while interstate clubs play so few. IMO some of the clubs that play home at Etihad get more time on the MCG with interstate clubs and Melbourne, Richmond, Collingwood, Hawthorn get more time at Etihad.

Not only so few but not even allowed a 30 minute captains run the day before. That’s ****ing outrageous.

Of course it's an advantage to play the GF on your home ground, but it's offset by the lack of a distinct homeground advantage V Vic sides.
Also offset by a lack of homeground advantage in finals V Vic sides, whereas interstate sides can get a big leg up playing at home in finals.

End result is, it's not a perfect setup, but it's the best we have.
You realise you play away games in Melbourne as well though? So there is less true away games with a one sided crowd etc.

So, less travel, less away game disadvantages, chances of not leaving the state during finals with less home ground advantage for 4-6 home games a year VS. Constant travel, 11 true away games and 10 or so true home games and having to win the biggest game of the year away from home regardless. I know which I would rather.

I get that every league will have it’s advantages but the pig headed attitude is what gets me. Why pay lip service to half the league when someone dares ask the question?

Please tell me where geelong playerd Sydney in the 2nd week of the finals. A final has been played once at kp, in the history of the game 1 final. It is not a finals venue, it should not even be brought up as an option.

Why did you arbitrarily pick 11 years to cut it off.... Ohhhh I see.

You don't maybe think that a fair whack of that 11 years of Vic wins might be due to 2 of the better teams in recent history being present in the Cats and Hawks?

One eyed brain is the Victorians who don't ever want the AFL grand final to leave Victoria. That forget it's national competition and still think it's the VFL. That don't want to lose their advantage at winning the grand final. Are you afraid that you would enjoy a Grand Final in Perth? Are you scared that we don't have pokies in every bar?

No it wouldn't have to be here every second year. We wouldn't pay no stupid fee. Unless the Vic clubs pay a fee to have it in Melbourne. Of course it's not those games, this is a biased sporting competition biasing 10 teams. You are a peanut with no eyes open, let alone one. Mine are both open, and think it's every footy fans right to have the Grand Final in a state that boasts a team.
Why are Vics so afraid of an interstate GF?
They keep telling us there is no home state advatage in this final match.

I agree, there are positives and negatives from both sides of the discussion, i think posters can get frustrated by the lack of recognition for the distinct home ground advantage of interstate teams and therefore ignore the distinct disadvantage of travelling.
It's not like Vic teams don't travel
Dogs = 8 + 1 at Geel
Hawks = 9 :)
Carl, Ess, Rich, Melb, Saints = 6
Syd = 11
Freo = 10
Adl = 11 inc GF
