Autopsy vs Sydney - Rd17

When the opportunity presents itself you take it with both hands. Differences between good teams and average teams. Bla bla everyone rated us bottom 4 but guess what? We had a chance to cement ourself in the top 8 and game behind top 4. Hope this stings and the players play with anger and hurt in the coming weeks to show how much they want it.

I don’t think it’s a development issue. As I think every year Lmac has been getting better until this season when we decided to play him back to his old roles. Last year he played a lot on the wings and we weren’t even thinking of dropping him or thinking poor development. It’s more of a coach thing. I think Scott wants to play him but also may not think his better or doesn’t want to stifle our other midfielders. So instead of playing him in a position that uses his pure strengths we put him back to fit him him our side.
Have a look at Lachie Whitfield at GWS to see a natural wingman sacrificing his game for the team to go back to a HBF and dominating.

If you have the talent and application it's not a problem.

3 weeks in row to cement ourselves and won 1 against a terrible side.

We panicked today.

That last three minutes we needed someone to step up and settle the team down. We were all over them and playing kamakazie style football, while it got us the lead, also kept them in with a sniff.

Given our time again, you would hoped that we would have moved the ball around and made Sydney chase the game, instead of going fast and playing into their hands.

Are we doing ourselves a disservice in playing Simpkin in the midfield? We are crying out for a dynamic forward who actually crumbs the ball. I know he is part of the future midfield but we are really struggling for forward pressure at the moment and he excels at it

He needs a change too. He's just not impacting enough at the moment

I've been saying this for the past 2 weeks. He's completely absent from our games lately. I don't know whats going on but whatever it is, its not working.

He could use some time in the forward crumbing goals. In the midfield he's making zero impact.

100% spot on. It’s not like he is being asked to play a role he isn’t capable of playing.

While it may not be his best role, you can’t excuse how poor he has been a lot of this year.

Kicking - garbage
Decision making - poor
Defensively - poor

I’m struggling to find a good element to his game at the moment.

Just finished watching the replay, and having thought Tarrant has not looked 100% for 2-3 weeks, i noticed in the pre-game footage of the boys warming up in the rooms, he has haematoma behind his left knee about the size of my fist, kind of explains his latest form a bit i reckon.
Yeah, it’s a recent corky. He had a fitness test just before the game to make sure it wasn’t affecting his mobility and he obviously passed!

Life just shits you sometimes. How many games do we have to be player down in?

Surprised Jack’s missed sitter hasn’t had more focus. Think they took it straight back up and capitalised. Really hurt.

The window of luck has opened twice for us this season - v Essendon then vs Sydney. We couldn’t take our chance on either occasion and it stings.

We fought hard but our inside 50 craft is incredibly wasteful and makes winning clearances a much lower currency than it should be.

Unfortunately we’ve lost our ability to clamp opposition movement too perhaps due to lesser players in the 22 and so we watched them waltz back through midfield as teams have in previous seasons.

Did I mention that really sucked? Stick the “great game” calls. A great game is one that puts us closer to this year’s flag. Not further away.

Curmudgeonly aren't you. That was a great game with many good players for us.

Robbo's tackle:

WHAT I LIKE

1. MAJAK v ALIIR

The most enthralling one-on-one contest this year, and one of the most enthralling games of the year was eventually won by Sydney. The fact is everyone was a winner except North Melbourne. Majak Daw kicked four goals and Aliir Aliir booted the winner for Sydney, and right there we saw a glimpse into the future of Australian rules. The incredible athleticism from both Daw and Aliir, and their ability to deliver at the highest level will inspire more North African-born players to the game. This was a day to remember and cherish, just as it was all those years ago when Hawthorn’s Peter Knights took on Essendon’s Paul Vander Haar.

2. HEROES GALORE

Sydney lost Josh Kennedy before half-time and lacked the experience of Jarrad McVeigh. Typically, Sydney didn’t yield and is now fourth behind the Pies on percentage. Lance Franklin’s two goals in the final quarter were enormous, so was Aliir Aliir’s final goal, so was Ben Ronke’s five goals, but equally so was Luke Parker’s smother in the middle at the end. When North led by seven points late it was on the back of Jack Ziebell, Majak Daw, Ben Brown and Shaun Higgins. It was heartbreaking for the Kangas that they couldn’t get over the line. Little consolation for them that it was one of the games of the season.

Jacobs plays and we win.
Against Essendon and Sydney.
Merrett and Heeney matchwinners both times.
That’s your ball game right there.

You can talk about the goals, and the missed tackles, and the turnovers, and the shit half arsed efforts and everything else.
We need Gaff/Shiel and Kelly. We just don’t have the cattle. It stings.

As for Luke McDonald. We need to all stop rating him so highly. Immediately. He is average at best and needs to stop being compared to other top 10 picks.
I’ve said it all year and posters harp on - oh he’s playing out of position and he beat his man, and he tracks back so well and then quote some useless disposal efficiency stat from champion data. **** that. I’m over him.
Accept his shitness sooner rather than later and then his performances will be easier to handle.
He isn’t going to wake up one day and have the ability to kick off one step and lower the eyes. It aint happening.
No elite attribute from kicking to marking to tackling to speed to agility to defending to attacking. Nothing.

But.. we literally have no one left, NO ONE to come in. The VFL team is barely floating along now. It is near threadbare on talent.

Collingwood on the rebound oh boy, could get messy.

**** ****en ****

We blew it big time

The three pring attack was brilliant but we got nothing out of the rest.

Young mids looked good Ahern, LDU and Jed
Higgo, Brown , jack and goldy really lifted.

Things we’ve done for most of the last decade is to many players get sucked into the contest and leave to many loose players.

If in the off season I see Lmac and Clarke pissing it up instead of training their asses off - I’ll go jump off the turnbuckle and clothesline them both.

Ridiculous.

A performance like that will beat Collingwood next week, west coast at home, and it gets easier from.there
Who says we'll play like that against the Pies or West Coast? The Swans are chalk and cheese compared to these two.
West Coast at home? Monumental effort - needs to be a a lot better than today.
Brisbane at home? Perhaps that's a game we should win -but so was today and we didn't.
Play one week of finals to extend Brad Scott's contract? No thanks.
