State Focus WA 2022 - Western Australia’s junior footy talent

Would like to see a mid-season PSA thoughts. Some outstanding talent. Wesley boys being trained by Michael Broadbridge, midcoach Shane Woewodin and Brad Shepherd. Reuben Ginbey hails from here and has fellow East Perth guns Mitch Miller and Will Cassidy. Subiaco Toby McDonald, East Freo Kaleb Smith and many others. PSA schools all showing great footy talent but seemingly overlooked by state selectors as not playing much colts.
Of that list of players, Smith goes ok. But who does he push out of the WA back line. He’d be completing against the likes of Gilbey, Cleaver and Gathercole.
Being PSA boys, they’d be having their names shoved under state selector for the last two years. If they were good enough they be in the side, simple as that.

If you want to talk about players that have been over looked, I’ll give you a couple of colts players:

1. Byron Finch, not just for his Ginnivan hair, a left footer, very well balance player, makes smart decisions with ball in hand and very efficient. Impact player across half forward. Dewar is a player he could replace in the state side.

2. Ryan Newick, power mid and now playing as a HF, clean at ground level, elite hand baller that can burst away from packs and defenders. Clearance type player. Cole and McDonald are players he could replace that are currently in the side.

Just my thoughts, happy to hear different opinions.

Good feedback. Agree Finch overlooked and unlucky.

Watching last nights game, another couple of players in very good form and overlooked - Ethan Barbieri/Joel Rush.

Ethan Barbieri (Subiaco) very composed player, one of the most accurate kicks. Was their leading defender, moved to their wing recently and have to admire how he provides run/impact all over the ground.

Joel Rush (Peel) such an exciting player to watch, makes really clever decisions and has great skill/efficiency. Versatile player who can be moved around easily and provide options.

Thanks

Joel Rush - very nice player, left footer moves nicely and uses the ball well. Only problem for him is the number of Peel players in and around the State squad this year (Hall, Adams, Broadbent, Mitchell, Dounghy, Carbone Tregenza, Finch, Tuia, Selwwod, etc). For mine the two teams to play off in the colts Gf this year are Peel and WP purely on talent. Add to that, Rush has a player in the same colts side that is rated better and a 1 year younger I believe in Hall, also a left footer and a touch taller.

Ethan Barbaeri - been fantastic for subi, racking up stats at will. Very smart player and knows where to be to best advantage his side going forward. Only knock I have on him is his speed, covers the ground well just one paced. I see him moving back to defence in partnership with Odea, who conicedenlty is one to watch for next year. Odea has dominated the games I've seen this year.

does anyone know what the single game record for each stat is in Colts. Christian Wilson (SF) laid 20 tackles on the weekend. Rory Laird had 20 tackles last week and it was a new record for the Afl, surely Wilson has written a new record in the WAFL colts

Sam Berry in his under age year had 18 tackles for Gippsland Power against the Geelong Falcons in the NAB League is the most I've heard of?

It's a shame we didn't get to see Wilson play a state game. I think observers around Australia would have liked him nearly as much as they are starting to like Darcy Jones. In fact, a Jones v Wilson duel in the midfield would be pretty exciting.

last time south freo played swans, it was Jones and Hardeman vs Wilson and Ohehir. Wilson had 38 and Ohehir 34. Jones 24 and a goal, Hardeman 20. Bourne played in this game as well and had a 11 and a goal

From what I can tell, Darcy Jones will make his league debut for Swan Districts on the weekend and Elijah Hewett will also play league.

A number of others listed in the league lists including Jed Hagan, Jack Cleaver, Steely Green, Daniel Hill and Jordyn Baker....exciting times...I hope they get a game
Given the rumblings that Hewett might not be in the top 10 selections no doubt his form in league will be invaluable for him to push back up the rankings.

I can see why people have reservations about Hewett. When he's hot he's hot and when he's not he's not.

But I'll say this, in a big game when someone has to step up, I reckon he would. I'd be glad to have him on my side.

They matched up early this season wilson got 38 disposals and darcy 23 and wilson one big spoil against darcy to deny him a mark so who do you think won that one then and wilson still didnt get best on ground ????

So why is it wilson never gets a mention about maybe getting drafted this year he is 18 in oct averrages 29 disposals per game top ren in tackles and marks as well and leader in disposals ????
