State Focus WA 2022 - Western Australia’s junior footy talent

Yeah, at least the clubs looked outside the state squad a "tiny" bit.

But I'm convinced more than ever that if a player doesn't get in the state squad and thus play in the national championships, his chances of getting noticed are slim - all on the wim of 3 or 4 selectors. That's a lot of power they exert and it could launch a career or stifle one.
Agreed there is at least three i have noticed at Subiaco that are talents that i hope get the chance for a full 2023 season to see what they are capable of. Unfortunately currently out injured for the 2022 season.

Well, you've got my interest up and I'm always looking for other players who might emerge. So who are you talking about?

For season 2023 even if the first two will be overages Evitt (2004) most would know from 2021, i hope he gets a clean run at it. The other two for next year R Wills (2004) very good two way runner , wingman . Great stamina which allows to get to multiple contests and inside 50's good link up player injured about half way through the season, i think. Lachlan Okeefe (2005) good vision , good hands , inside/outside mid good kick around 183-185 cm and left footer injured in pre-season vs Claremont. I also agree with a few others on this forum Newick (2004) seems to have the qualities for AFL strength/power so i thought he may be on the radar.

Who’s does everyone think was abit stiff to not get an invite atleast few players from the state team and a few not in the squad.

The names I've noticed are missing are Chase Bourne, Jacob Evitt, Luke Brown, Luke Yeo, Lewis Crump and Luke Michael.

Kane Bevan (WP #9) played his best game of the season yesterday. Raw stats sheet might look average (11k, 18h, 4m, 5t, 1.1) but 20+ contested possessions, 9 clearances, 3 goal assists. Was involved in everything. Can only get better, has so much scope to play as a third tall defender at AFL level or a midfielder. May not have the traits to be the #1 accumulator at AFL level but has great strength and size (192/87) and breakaway speed from the contest. Slam dunk pick for WC or Freo late in the draft.

Codan Daddow (WP #49), 17 year old small forward from Buracoppin - elite goal sense and awareness. Very sneaky and crafty in the forward 50, reminds me of Jack Ginnivan without the high tackle business. Kicked 4, looked dangerous in his 3rd colts game.

Riley Sprigg (WP #14), well beaten in the ruck first quarter by combine invitee Bailey Maxwell (EP #50; has some nice traits but a long way to go - super raw), and responded well in the remainder of the game. Imposing and brilliant finding of his midfielders with taps especially from centre bounces.

Mitch Miller (EP #14), this year's crop but a late birthday. Probably doesn't have AFL size but really nice skills and goal sense.

Jasper Scaife (WP #40) - easy category B pickup for the Dockers. A less sexy Jye Amiss with less consistency but a better long kick for goal.

I have been watching Mitch Miller all year at Wesley - he is fast and always free. Finds space and will bag 3 a game as a winger. 8 goals in 4 colts games this year. He is young and size will come with extra strength training, look at Fyfe.

Suprised not to see Ethan Donaghy from Peel on that list.

Suprised not to see Ethan Donaghy from Peel on that list.
I like Donaghy. He's tough and gives effort and leadership but as we've seen AFL clubs rarely consider over age players unless some years later they totally dominate league footy. So I only included a small number of over agers. I don't necessarily like how it works but I know in my heart's heart it is how it works.
I always hope these guys stick with their WAFL and go on to be good league players and then who knows.......maybe a WAFL premiership, maybe a mid-season draft call.....all with a balanced work/footy/social life which many AFL players don't have.

How did seth connor get 10 points for coming 3rd best today ?????? How does that work out ???

Because quite simply Seth Connor was in my opinion South's best player and I voted on this game. 7 votes from me plus 3 from the coaches = 10.

Chase Bourne was silky and smooth but there were others better from what I saw. He got 4 votes.

Below ager Jacob Whan got 8 and he deserved those votes. He is an emerging KP defender for WA next year. He is a pleasant surprise.

Sorry man, that I can't always script things your way.
