Barnett has been very poor since being drafted, has shown nothing, and yes, I know he is only a young 1st year rookie, but would need to be showing more than he currently is. It's a big concern.
Yesterday people were hanging shit on Williams for being the worst player ever. Today its Barnett.

How about showing patience with young talls?

Absolutely agree with the Perth merger.

I think an ideal scenario involving a standalone team (whether it be in an AFL wide reserves comp or a better setup within the WAFL) needs to be something we take a reset on, plan for a year or two and get it right, rather than tread water arguing back and forth under the current arrangement.

2024-5 would be good years to sort of prioritise development of younger players - would be way better for a Barnett or Dewar to play in a semi competitive team with its own culture and standards, don't need the perfect gameplan translation we were probably after initially, just need confidence and functionality.

I'd be completely ok with giving Perth a little more selection power/control than we wanted with East Perth. I understand WCs desire for complete control over where/how we name our players but honestly the whole 'earn your position' thing should apply in the 2s as well. If say a Luke Edwards type was behind a few of their senior players in the centre rotations - fine, let him play his way into form that makes Perth want him in top spot for their best chance of winning.

Would a) mirror how he'd be in the AFL side more closely/learn how to work his way into games in that context and b) provide more small, clear steps for development as he'd have an initial goal at WAFL level in his sights (force into established WAFL mid, then step into AFL fringes, then step into AFL established). Not helping those types at all getting smashed as the #1 in their WAFL role before they're physically up to it then be expected to jump up and play a different, more flanky fringy role at AFL level that they haven't been playing. Has probably hurt the development of lots of those Winder/Trew/Jamieson/JWilliams types who haven't been drafted as readymade as a Ginbey but have some good attributes.

And if Perth doesn't want to name a player or has a role/gametime in mind that WC doesn't agree with, let them play reserves and make a statement there. Have a bit of open dialogue with the Perth coaches and a bit of informal give and take and if our players aren't demanding the role we'd like for them in reserves, then that's just them not being up to it yet.

Think having a progression as young players with a senior culture around you will be so much more important the next 2 years than perfect positions/gameplan as those things have kind of gone out the window anyway, and probably won't be that relevant until our next wave of leaders start setting their own standards and making us condenders in their own right.

Harry would want to end up better than Knobel, I'll say that much. Was very keen on him before Cockburn picked him up for peanuts.

Not sure how a dumb flog like Eastland who's the same weight and 4cm's shorter could flog Barnett that badly.

Harry would be even heavier and possibly taller than his wafl listing by now as well.

Watched the first 3 quarters live at Claremont on Saturday and can say Barnett was very average. Was looking forward to watching him and was left pretty disappointed. Out bodied and out worked around the ball. Even his work rate at times off the ball was poor watched Eastland just run forward with Barnett happy to trail 15m behind several times.

if you merged with perth this year based on what peel's alignment is like you would find Baker,Dewar,Barnett and maybe williams playing in Perth's reserves team because they are not up to wafl league standard yet.One of the problems at East Perth was under performing players like Tom Lamb could not be dropped to wafl reserves.a lot of under age players skipped playing ressies and got gifted wafl league games too early.Certain players can play wafl league at a high standard from game one like Judd.Certain west aussie boys played league during their colts year like Darling,Rich, spp,Coniglio but the truth is even Wafl reserves is a step up for a lot of under 18 draftees.
The arrogance of the eagles heirachy towards East perth was poison. The Dockers seem to be more balanced and thus won two premierships.
Perth would have to have a water tight guareentee on certain issue before they get into bed with the Eagles.

Peel won 2 flags because they stacked their team with returning AFL players, the league had to bring in rules to curtail that.
East Perth did make a couple of grand finals from the alignment, so it wasn't always posion.

Those guys playing ressies and having to fight for a league spot is how it should be

Assume XO is the sub, so Dewar, Maric, Barnett and maybe Baker running around in the Beagles this week?

Anyone know the chances of Maric being sub? Looked pretty lost out there last week

Don't quote me but we played peel in a final and peel had 16-17 dockers and we had about 14.The difference was they had players who the dockers were going to move on like Deboer and muzungu and a very handy blaikely who couldn't get a game.As for east perth the quality of eagles were questionable due to poor drafting.

What’s the knock on Josh Browne? Was in the State 18’s maybe 2 years ago? Decided to play for the Beagles rather than East Freo after being overlooked in the draft. Suggests he might have been promised an AFL spot if he went alright at WAFL league level. Hasn’t looked to bad in most games I’ve seen and he can find the footy better than some of our AFL listed mids when they go back to the WAFL.

Whatever you do dont look at the score
Ahh it can't be that bad, I'll check it out....
