Former early draft pick Jono O'Rourke has told Greater Western Sydney he wants to return home to Victoria, with North Melbourne, Hawthorn and St Kilda all jockeying to secure the former junior star ball-winner.

St Kilda and Carlton are also eager to secure GWS key position player Kristian Jaksch who has also already told the Giants he wants a trade back to Victoria.

Carlton is keen on Jaksch, but would only consider trading its first-round draft pick for him if there was another player tied into the deal, or another first-round draft pick coming back to them.

Jaksch would help offset the loss of veteran Jarrad Waite who told the club he wants to leave as a free agent and looks set to move to North Melbourne, which has offered him a two-year deal.

Whilst I never thought it was possible but reading that, the Blues 'could' swing a clever deal for both Jaksch & O'Rourke in exchange for #6.

If that came off, it would be a major coup with a younger version of Waite secured (pray tell not as injury prone though) and an addition to the midfield fleet that would cover the non-trade of Mitchell.

Up until the North Melbourne game he was set to be 'retired'.

We very nearly won 5 of those last 6 matches. For that contribution, we can in some sense be consoled he was able to earn himself a new 2 year deal, albeit at another club. :(
Ok, I didn't realise that was the case.

Similar to Lake, at a club who's contending Waite could be the final piece of the puzzle and I guess in the end the extra years salary plus that chance to play in a flag was too tempting.

We've done it before.

from the Blueseum.........

Carlton gaveSimon Minton-Connell to Sydney and Peter Sartori and Ashley Matthews to Fitzroy. Sydney also gained Darren Kappler from the Roys, and Fitzroy gained draft picks. Matthews began with jumper #48 before moving to jumper #34. Matthews added another 6 games to his tally at Fitzroy.

The Greg Williams deal is the greatest hook-up deal of all time.

I agree entirely. Through 2004-2010 we brought a lot of young, talented players to the club but failed to develop them and create an environment where they pushed themselves to succeed. It's no wonder players like Gibbs and Yarran are having breakout seasons years after they should have - things have finally clicked.

Waite's an odd cat though. He might have become the player we all envisioned him being, or he may well have continued to underachieve. It's all speculation and hyperbole. I don't think he deserves a flag either - but he's got every right to chase one with his chosen club.

But rather than see his departure as inherently dark, I'd rather see it as indicative of the direction of the club over the next decade. For every player that leaves, new players get opportunities. If we can nab Jaksch, have a fit Henderson, along with Casboult playing closer to goal we may have stumbled on a formula that might just work.
Gee, that's a fair post. :thumbsu:

That was the Melbourne game, one of the enduring memories I have of Waite is of him taking 3 bounces and slotting one from 50 that day.
Was that the Saturday after his dad died? I must have been interstate, recovering from open-mind surgery or in prison but I missed the match. Recall reading the Heatley Stand almost caved in as it sailed through.

Don't rate O'Rourke at all.

Very skinny for an inside midfielder, not overly quick, a long history of injuries and he's an exceptionally cocky kid as well.

There's a great post on the trade board (http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/value-of-jono-orouke-kristian-jaksch.1076064/page-4) summing up why he went so early and his progression in the past few years has been quite poor.

Would rather look at Duggan in this draft.

I don't know what to say about Jarrad leaving Carlton I can't seen Jackie wanting to move across the other side of Australia, then again if the price is right. Can't wait for to see what defender takes Jarrad when they meet.

Why do we have two threads about Waite, can we just merge the two?

It was quite an emotional moment when Waite kicked the goal. Every Carlton player got around him & the applause from the crowd lasted until Waite got back into position for the next centre bounce. Unfortunately it wasn't enough to lift the team to victory, but it is a moment that I will always remember.

Where has that idea come from?

I'd like to find out who telling people that Jaksch is Waite mark 2.

And pick #27 as compo...another masterstroke by Malthouse :D

Waite was a poor mans Fevola. Same bipolar on field just less severe. Glad he's gone after not wanting to put in after finally having a coach who pushes the group hard and wont put up or held to ransom by his antics jusy because his good is very good (same as Garlett). Downhill skiier in that regard who only wants to do the flashy stuff and that makes you self centred and even his interviews to me always came across as egocentric and self serving. We can reformulate now without him and you can look to the Cats and Hawks in terms of how much this will affect us, seeing how losing marquee players in Ablett amd Franklin (and im not bundling Waite in with that crowd) affects a side whereby they both went on to win flags without them the very next year (and im not saying we will win a flag either so just settle down alright).

I feel its the last of the bad energy at the club and we are more aligned now in our playing group as a result. Just feels like he was always undermining our leadership group out of talent or birth right because of the father/son thing, like he didnt need to answer to them.

Loved your best Waite but relieved you are gone.

The club should treat this as a lesson. If you have to pay overs to keep a player they're never going to perform to the best of there ability. Money is great but it's not really a long term motivating factor.

We should've traded Jarrad instead of giving him that 3 year contract. He just wasn't happy at Carlton, and we sure weren't happy with his performances.

This really does pi$$ me off alot.
As a club we stood by this bloke whilst he was on massive money and a 3 year deal and he couldn't get out on the ground for a variety of reasons. And IMO he's essentially gone to the club who's waved the biggest carrot in front of him.

Seriously, he can go and get stuffed!!
This really does have the stench of him having a sook after Mick dropped him this year.

Don't let the door hit your arse on the way out Jarrad.

This! And yes, I'm still pissed off at him but at the same time, I wish him all the best.

I would've loved to have held onto him for another two years but 1 year with another year option was more than fair considering.

A lot of supporters have said some pretty nasty things about Jarrad. I hope he doesn't make you eat your words next year and give us a flogging. He's the type to do just that

North have as much chance of winning the flag next year as Sir James has of being appointed as the Chief ethicist at the AFL.

Not sorry to see him go. Agree with the sentiments about how it comes across as a little selfish etc, but I don't mind bc I don't even want him in the team. Hopefully, he's replaced with someone that gives a hundred percent every game, actually tries to chase and tackle (doesn't just fake it) and is a little less costly with turnovers .. Hence my concerns with Liam Jones -- he's the type that does what Waite did -- run full pelt at the opponent and let them side-step with ease ... For mine, it's a deliberate attempt to make it look like you're trying without any real intention...

Waite seems like a strange guy to me.

I've been calling for his head for a long time, so I'm happy in that sense. Same with Warnock ... Couple more to go, but a lot happier with how the team is looking for next year.

Can't help but to giggle at the thought of getting #27 for Waite.

Does anyone remember the days when news reports had research and integrity attached?

Not sure where channel 7 got their info from and as much as I want to believe it..................I just can't.

I really liked Jarrad.
Here's hopin he has a couple or more boys and a 3rd gen of Waites to pull on the Navy Blue in the future!.
Sick of those bloody puns!.
Good luck ol chap, here's one bloke that loved you and could forgive your faults.
