I understand but effectively we can have a situation where Band 1 and 2 have no difference in value.

Odd sort of scenario, isn't it?
Yep.

But we knew the system was flawed when Melbourne can get pick 3 for Frawley. :p

This really does pi$$ me off alot.
As a club we stood by this bloke whilst he was on massive money and a 3 year deal and he couldn't get out on the ground for a variety of reasons. And IMO he's essentially gone to the club who's waved the biggest carrot in front of him.

Seriously, he can go and get stuffed!!
This really does have the stench of him having a sook after Mick dropped him this year.

Don't let the door hit your arse on the way out Jarrad.

Yep and sums up the whole ill conceived nature of the compo system. They got it wrong,

I'll never understand Free Agency. While all these guys who leave Carlton will be welcomed back I think they should be seated at a separate table to fully understand the consequences of leaving the club.

Can't express anything but sadness at this outcome. I saw his dad play and he was no mug on a footy field. He whacked people but that was pretty standard for the day. The effects of DNA carried over and got you into trouble on a number of occasions. However your skill excited me on many more occasions. Of all those special qualities it was your leap and hang time which was second to none.

obviously a risk for whoever picks him up, but in terms of performance there are no guarantees either way here. i'm not willing to console myself on a players' inevitable failure when we know how good he can be on his day. ran around while we handed out contracts to lesser lights with their own performance issues - his place and performance on our list is as much an indictment on our staff as it is the man himself. good memories, no hard feelings. is probably best for both parties anyway.

Some very unhappy supporters here.

If he retired we'd have thanked him for his time with us, knowing he'd never reached his full potential.

He'll be 32 before the start of next season and unlikely to be playing AFL when we push for our 17th flag.

For the cost of seeing him play in another jumper we free up some cap space and score a very decent compo pick. I don't mind that. I won't wish him well at another club but I think slagging him off is a bit poor. We're better than that. Thanks for giving us hope during the dark days. :)

As a Collingwood supporter I was relieved this season when he missed both our games. He was always dangerous and needed quality to mind him.

As it turns out, the worst thing Malthouse did was play him rather than leave him in the reserves in the second half. He happened to play well and boost his value otherwise he may have accepted a one year deal if others didn't offer much.

It's a sad time when stalwarts leave a club - and we are going through that at the moment - but it's modern times unfortunately and if free agency comes down to 6 years, it'll be second nature to us.

Up until the North Melbourne game he was set to be 'retired'.

We very nearly won 5 of those last 6 matches. For that contribution, we can in some sense be consoled he was able to earn himself a new 2 year deal, albeit at another club. :(

You say my words AZ.

North were into him when he was a magoos player, filling time.

All of a sudden he's the biggest turncoat, since the last one.

Loyalty is a 2 way street.

Can't see why North would want him?

Petrie, Black,Brown. Can't see him fitting.
That's what I can't work out. I think Brown is going to move into a secondary ruck position, black to either be playing in the reserves or up the ground, and then Petrie and Waite isolated inside 50.

If we get pick 27 it will be worth it

I'm sad to see Waite leave us, but I am sadder to read some of the nasty things being directed at him by Carlton supporters, despite serving the club for 13 years, yet the likes of Sauce Jacobs & Eddie Betts still continue to receive far more positive reactions from Carlton supporters than negative reactions.

Let's not forget this is a player who fronted up for a game barely 24 hours after his father had died. A player who represented Victoria in State of Origin football. A player who fought back from a serious knee injury & later an almost career-ending back injury, yet has still averaged 15 games per season over his career.

Sometimes I worry about the bitterness/anger some people demonstrate.

Well said.
The bitterness and hate that people are spitting his way is pretty hard to read.
