Europe Backdrop to the war in Ukraine

This is the thread for the geopolitics, history and framework around the Russia-Ukraine conflict. If you want to discuss the events of the war, head over to this thread:

Why are you asking? Different electoral systems.

None of the leaders you mentioned would get anywhere near a 80 + percent vote. That sort of thing generally happens in dictatorships.

Even Kim Jong's elections claim some opposition to him.

What is clear is the electoral system in Russia and Belarus is farcical.
As farcical as western electoral system

Where does a coup fit in with democracy ?? You have limited understanding on these events
It doesn't. Unfortunately, after Ukraine rebuffed Russia's attempt to coerce it into economic agreements it didn't want, there was an invasion and coups orchestrated by Russia, not known for democracy.

OMG lots wrong with that. Yanukovych turned to russia for economic ties after european union added extra conditions he saw as unacceptable.

Hey Green Hammer I'm going to take a wild guess about some of your opinions. You tell me how many of these I guessed correctly okay?
  • Dislikes the Democrats in the US
  • Dislikes "the West"
  • Loves Elon Musk
  • Loves Bitcoin
  • Hates Covid vaccinations
  • Hates Covid lockdowns
  • Hates the Labor party in Australia
  • Likes guns
  • Doesn't like Trans people
  • Supported Brexit
I'm guessing I scored a minimum 7/10

Let me know.

How right wing can you be in asking this

Why would someone ask about reactionary talking points for political ideology?

You made a comment about 'western elections being farcical', and that ties in with everyone else who backs Russia against Ukraine.

Figured you would tick a few other boxes too. And you know what? The fact you're dodging the question is as good as a confirmation :)

You really cant see a problem with a best that money can buy western democracy?

You can't see how transparently obvious your positions are when you refuse to answer the simple question?

Why go to all the trouble of another name. Just continue to call it the Russian Federation and Georgia would (is?) just be another one of its republics. It would join some another recent annexed republics in Crimea, Luhansk People's Republic and Donetsk People's Republic.
This is all ok because russia never “promised” the NATO countries that they wouldn’t expand. But, will this expansion of the russian federation close to NATO borders still be justification for NATO to attack russia?
Are we talking voluntary expansion, or involuntary?

Because the answer is easy, if it's genuinely voluntary, then no, not NATO's business.

If it's involuntary, then it's Russian killing time.
