Ok, with the warning out of the way, I ask this (in light of the rabble cup this weekend):

Has any side won, after being flog ... err soundly beaten by 100 points the week previous?

Dan, over to you squire.

Richmond lost to adelaide by about 140 points then beat the bulldogs the next week a few years ago..Of course we sacked the coach as well after that loss...

I would imagine that it has happened dozens of times. As for the team in question:

Hawthorn
Round 17 1940, lost to Melbourne by 114, Round 18 defeated Fitzroy by 56.

Round 2 1969, lost to Carlton (who kicked then league record score) by 128, Round 3 defeated Essendon by 13 at Windy Hill.

Round 21 1979, lost to North by 105, Round 18 defeated Footscray by 38 at the Western Oval.

There may be others.

I think North did it in the 2000 finals series.

Damn damn damn.

Hawks 127 pts down to North early in 1994 sandwiched between 58pt loss to Melbourne and 87 point loss to Carlton. Definately the end of an era - the first run of 3 defeats for over 20 yrs

Turned round and beat the eventual premiers (WCE) by 71 on their own dung heap.

The difference ? No full back or full forward.

The problem with Hawthorn at the moment ? No full back or full forward.

Pess, the 100 point loss was also our first in 15 years.

We had a fair run, didn't we? :)

Ah, the good old days ...

I was wondering the same about Carlton actually. Paul might be able to tell me, but I don't think we have lost by more than 100 since 1983 against North Melbourne........anyone know the answer?

I've been busy today

There you go. 17 years and still going (I don't want to think about the possiblity of being beaten by 100+ in the very near future) - I see we've only been beaten by 100+ four times in our history, I would guess that's the best of all the Victorian clubs (sorry, I have to hang my hat on something this week!).

P.S. Paul, you don't have to answer this for me.:)

Carlton's biggest losses:
Carlton 11.16 82 Nth Melbourne 29.19 193, 1983 - 111 pts
Carlton 8.19 67 Essendon 27.14 176, 1985 - 109
Carlton 7.8 50 Collingwood 22.20 152, 1977 - 102
Carlton 7.8 50 Essendon 22.18 150, 1945 - 100
Carlton 8.10 58 Hawthorn 23.18 156, 1991 - 98

I'd just like to say "Mark Arceri" at this point, just for the hell of it.

Oh, and it was never a free kick.
