Surprised we are still including the AFLW oval. With the comp likely to move back to winter/spring, I would prefer it at Box Hill City Oval (also being upgraded in 2025).
1. Comp will be starting early to accommodate more games in the season.
It will still finish at a similar time of year
2. Box Hill lacks facilities for fans and players, has no parking, and lacks easy public transport access
3. An AFLW oval isn't just for gamedays, it includes training as well. Currently they spend most of their preseason training at deakin uni

Aflw oval will also be used as an community oval aswell I believe, so would have got money from council and government for it

1. Former CEO said on the weekend AFLW would likely start mid - late June. Not far away.
2. BHH more accessible by PT - walk to Laburnum station and dozens of buses go to Box Hill central. The upgrade will be comparable to Dingley. Box Hill City Oval to benefit from $19m upgrade
3. Surely the women can use the men’s oval, or an oval there without spectator amenities.

My point is that, given high building costs, perhaps we shouldn’t be doubling up on facilities.

Wouldn’t it make the club more inclusive if we have the W team at the same venue as the rest of the club ?

I’m sure when KCC is complete we could have all HFC teams under the 1 roof, inc our wheelchair team

Let’s make everyone 1 club

Not separate teams scattered around the place.

Obviously our men’s team can not play at KCC but there’s no reason why our women’s team couldn’t.
They’d have a good home ground advantage.

Anyone who plays or works in any shape or form for HFC should be out of the 1 venue. Kennedy Community Centre.

Yes, as I said they would train there, but just like our mens team plays elsewhere at a more appropriate venue, so can our other teams.

I think people miss the point with AFLW facilities. In the world of government and AFL grants, you have to show a community or outcomes benefit to get funding - the Hawks are not getting funding because people like the AFL, we are getting it because the facilities will ultimately benefit the local populations and lead to increase in female sport participation.

I can almost guarantee that our funding for example will be contingent on women's facilities being available and access to community

Say hello to the mortal enemy...

Shower cubicles.

The reason is that the cricket club has exclusive access to the ground from Oct 1st to March 31st. That's the reason they are playing at Frankston. Knowing the Whitehorse Council it's hard to believe that they would spend $19M on an upgrade without any assurance that Box Hill Hawks will be playing there for some time.

Drove past the main entrance today, can clearly see goal net posts that have been installed, can’t see much from the road but looks like work is progressing. I came back along the Mornington freeway and you can see 4 sets of goal net posts indicating where the two ovals will be.
The one thing that stood out to me was how elevated both ovals will be, hope it doesn’t become a windy, elevated site which is no good for precise skills etc

Climate change is an issue.

Wonder if there’s any reason behind it but I thought net posts would be one of the last things put up lol

Elevation may be to allow them to build under and around without issue (the dogs had so.e problems because they didn't elevate prior to the rebuild)
The net posts I assume is just to give a guide on the build (there wouldn't be any curbs etc to gauge off)

One of the reasons for the elevated playing fields maybe the requirement to provide a capping layer over the previous landfill elements.

I would have thought that the cost of excavation and removal of contaminated material far exceeds the cost of providing a capping layer of imported material

Obviously speculation on my part

All pics & renders so far have shown the oval to be elevated from that entrance.
