It’s 4-5 pages in and I thought I might write a post about the actual football that was played, rather than the BS whinging about draft picks.

Larkey played a monster game. Up there with some of Drew’s best. Bloody well done. He was everywhere and contributed in nearly every way possible for a key.

Scott was just enormous. I think is is top two in the Syd. Just ran all day, linked, marked, chased, tackled. He will be an AA winger in seasons to come.

Sheezel did so many cheeky, Harlem Globetrotter things all day and just stamped his claim on the RS and one of the all time great seasons from a teenager. So smart, so much heart.

TT and Jy were enormous in the guts with Lazz. TT break away from a contest is match only by our best player, LDU. Class, toughness, tackles, chasing, bullets, goal assists. Wonderful game. Jy cracked and played a great captains knock doing the unfashionable stuff. Lazz was brilliant with his defensive running, tackling and link up work. A smart player who unfortunately wasn’t gifted with a couple more inches and a dollop more of class.

TP and Will also were great through the centre. Will is still very much a burst player but when he is seeing it his impact packs a punch. TP was a general across HF locking the ball in, linking up and using his brilliant smarts, vision and skills. He has 25% more impact to give.

Goater, Perez and Bergman worked hard to not only work back and transition the ball but be that second and third layer behind our forward 50 press. Bergman is with his decision making, Goater should be put in as much space as possible and Perez worked well defensively to shut down their dangerous smalls after quarter time.

Xerri was serviceable and did some really neat things staying in the contest. If you mids are feeling it like today, that’s all you can hope for really.

McKay, Corr and Dawson were disciplined and stuck to their roles. Dawson impressed me. I think it would be a real shame if he were cut from the list.

Curtis was very clever and it’s clear as day that he is a match winner. In the past he has let himself down with his defensive efforts not today. Ford was his perfect partner in crime. Both these players just break up the oppos’ plans with the aerial ability, skills and strength. Can’t wait to see how they develop into experienced 50-70 game-changers.

The difference being cleaner with our hands made on our ball movement was so obvious today. Even Taylor, who had been very fumbly recently was good in the contest. I expect next year we will see more of this and fewer of the poor games, regardless of the talent we bring in.

We got challenged when every time this year our fitness or stupidity saw us chuck it in.

This wasn't a meek win, have to be happy with that win and the way it was won, even dropping down to pick 2.

So the question has to be asked; if we could do it in the last game, where has it been for the rest of the year?

Lazzaro played his first game in his preferred position, best game by a mile.



Phillips had a wonderful first half, endurance let him down but that will build.



Powell looked like the Cunnington/Pendels-type, slow it all down and dispose cleanly.



Xerri did his job in the ruck, no issues with him and Goldy going into next year.



Ford and Goater are athletic beasts and both looking like footballers, so glad they’re ours.



Larkey the in form AA key forward and looking like a club Captain, sticky hands and kicking straight, fantastic work rate all day.



Scott just runs and runs and runs, excellent game.



PC had a great game and his field kicking was excellent, build that tank son please you’ll be a magnificent medium forward.



Sheezel is a magician, will win the BnF and get the AA40 nod, best first year player I’ve seen,



Dawson looked pretty great didn’t he!? He can play next year no doubt.



TT should have his eyes on being the most damaging player at the club next year, well within his grasp and if we fly up the ladder with him at the helm, his dreams of being a superstar of the AFL is as well.



Clarko’s system has started to show through, and we’ve got some boys who are going to be ready to run it next year.



Wonderful way to end the year, no need to worry about #1, there are plenty of avenues to Reid, and other elite talents.



Kill to have been in the rooms post-game, enjoy it boys and i hope a few of you enjoyed it at home as much as I have.



Lets go get ‘em in ‘24 fellas!

this may be conspiratorial but it's almost like a deal has been done for WCE to trade you Pick 1 for your Pick 2 and McKay compensation Pick. It'll probably be more complex than that and may even mean the AFL will look more favourably on the Sanders request.
That's the only way I can find an explanation for the craziness of the last 2 weeks!
Kudos to you guys, like us, you haven't tanked... and to Clarko who said you'd be trying to win.

It’s fine to enjoy the win but GCS we’re truly awful and the game had the intensity of a pre-season fixture.

I’m happy for Will, Powell, Dawson, Larks and plenty others but it’s hard to place too much trust in performances from today.
