My favourite aspect of that experience was watching the fast ball movement between TT, Sheezel, Powell, Scott and co up the corridor. So many great handball chains between them up the ground, so much great intuitive decision making, so much to look forward to.

The movement out of defence was solid and purposeful. The mids and forwards were generally making better space and best of all, the skills looked to be at AFL standard.

But have we got a player in Sheezle!

And even though he has a few critics, Larkey is a genuine FF.

Clarkson can say with honesty tonight that the young blokes own the future of this team now. We go into 2024 with a very different attitude compared to if we had lost today. A loss today followed by a loss in R1 next year and the trajectory is downward. Today the counter was reset.

The psychologists can build confidence from today. Getting Reid as a consolation prize was never going to change the attitude of every other player on the list like a win can.

But getting Reid would still be bloody good. If we don't get him then the next option will still be a good player.

Interesting our 3 wins included Goater and Bergman.

Scott was racking them up in the back half, and I am not sure why Dawson did not get a look in this season.

Sadly it’s an accumulation of talent over several years

The mix will be there once this group hit 100-150 games

But as we’ve seen, it’s not that top end talent that gets you there

It’s the quality of 2nd and 3rd tier players and their consistency that wins Flags

But anyway, let’s get back to focusing on No 2 or 1 next year because that’s where the clicks are and not a fundamental understanding of playing one of the most difficult team ball sports in the world
