It's NOT paying tribute to a particular group , who are the group you are talking about .
It is our jumper and can be worn at any opportunity , our new home jumper was worn on Friday night , i was disappointed at first , but moved on quick as it is OUR club ! I NEED CAPITALS !
I'm not fighting with you just so you can vent your frustration and you feel better.

My opinion is different to yours.

BTW, I'm so very sorry they've taken away your capitals... my commiserations on your loss! :(

Out of curiosity, how many times do our "role players" and "unsung heroes" have to play better than our "stars" before they get the distinction of being called stars themselves?

Or are we only allowed 4-5 stars to the media?
Calling the entire team 'stars' lowers the value of the term... bit like 'gun'.

Consistency over two or three years for me makes a player a star.

Take Papley for instance... He started in 16, played pretty damn well most games, but it's only recently that he has become a 'gun' for me.

I think you and I have had almost this exact discussion before re what qualifies one to be a star, gun etc. and I don't think we saw eye to eye on it haha

My point was that the media just seem to settle on a handful who they consider to be stars and they become so singularly focused on those players that they only see others as "unsung heroes" or "role players", even if those others perform to the same standard and have the same impact as their designated "stars".

It can be possible that we just have that many "stars" (by the media's definition) in the team. There doesn't have to be a limit on it.

Yeah, to a point I agree... but take Lloyd, he's not a star, but he an outstandingly good role player who 'starred' on Friday night. Florent's the same, so's Fox, Paddy, Rampe and at this stage McCartin (T). They are not stars in their own right, regardless of what team they are in. It's the make up of our back 6 that allow them to 'star' in some games. Please don't think I'm underselling them, I'm not. This team is really, really good and only going to get better! But in my view, it's the collective that allows them to star, not the individual.

Of those, I think Tom McCartin is most likely to become a star by the time he's 24. Given he's 22, 3 more years of experience and he is going to be something really special along the lines of that Richmond defender... what's his name!

And yep, we've disagreed on this before... I think you are more exuberant on this issue than I am. You back the potential, I want the proof.

All fair points (though I will bite my tongue on Lloyd not being a star to you ;))

However I will give you an example. One of the podcasts I listened to about this game, when talking about how we weren't reliant on our stars, specifically referred to how Blakey didn't have a big game off half back, but that Florent did. Exsqueeze me but WTF is the difference there? Two exciting, talented half backs who have played about the same number of games in defence, but one is a star who had a quiet game while the other just a role player who "stepped up"?

It's just this really ******* random, inconsistent metric that the media use to refer to players. And I think it can be derogatory and I don't like it.

I'm ranting here. Apologies KS and the swearing isn't directed at you but at them!

If it hasn’t been said already, big shout out to Clarke again last night. Absolutely rinsed Salem - not once did they rebound out of defence. Has added another dimension to our team since coming in, credit to him for taking the chance and the coaches identifying the value
Well said.
Don't believe that there was so many on here saying that he should be replaced due to the fact he missed a few handball targets a few weeks ago.
If he'd been selected to play against Essendon we'd now be on a 10 game winning streak.
Does anyone still think he should be replaced by Wicks, Ronke or anyone else. I wouldn't think so.

Have i got an exciting proposition for you! We are selling our shiny brand new first round draft pick. All for the low low price of one Papley. Act now and we will throw in a second round draft pick, free of charge!!

Dam i wish we got him a few years ago. What a star he is.

Glad you guy's won, hope the Swans go all the way and win the lot.
Dodoro was just being his normal self at the time. Had he been a half decent list manager, Papley would have gone to you guys and we would have got Daniher.
Thank you so, so much for being such a prick Dodo.

There's no point Bedford... we both know that we won't agree, so why fight about it?

I dislike the idea of two jumpers that are not clash or specialist round (ie Pride, heritage, indigenous) jumpers. I think it's divisive. I don't think that 'two cities, one club' is best described by having a different jumper for each city.

I don't need your or anyone else's endorsement, it's just my opinion.

Do you think that yelling at me will change my mind? I'm allowed to be different, to see things differently than others...

Be warned, I'm not entering into a protracted discussion... I've given my opinion only because you insisted.

We 100% will play on the Friday. Meblourne/Brisbane will be Friday next week. SF2 will be on the Saturday as both teams will have played today
We 100% will play on Saturday. Two reasons.
1/ The higher ranked prelim finalist always plays on the Friday giving them an extra day of recovery before the GF.
2/ If we were to play on Friday our opponent would only have a 6 day break. The AFL will not go with that.

We became the first interstate team to win a qualifying final at the MCG since the AFL introduced the current top eight system.

wow didn't realise that !!

I don't know anymore than you do, but I would think agree that its because it's a clash jumper.

I'm pretty happy about it actually, because in finals I want to be representing us all, not paying tribute to a particular group.

I love our home jumper with the opera house etc
lets be honest we achieved stuff all in the red v, won more flags in the current jumper
its nice for a few vic games, but i want us in our proper jumper for finals personally, red v looks cool of course, but yeah the home usual looks better imo, and its the club jumper

Hope so I have just bought airfare on the Saturday! Will be shocked if the afl change it from a Saturday game!! Need to figure out when prelim final tickets are on sale!

2012 we were the lower ranked side and played on the Friday night. 2016 Geelong were in PF2 and played on the Friday night

This is a bit disappointing

The red V doesn’t represent success but rather tradition and a time of loyalty and heart in corrupt times. Tough times as a Swans supporter but also bonding times.

I was disappointed they didn’t run out in the red V for my personal love of the jumper but that’s a brief thing because we support the red and the white and just as happy to see the Opera house style as it’s the jumper that’s occupied most of my supporting years.

To dismiss the red V as something inferior is a shame.

They had an opportunity to wear it knowing it was a double chance and could quickly return to the home jumper. But club decision to wear the home jumper is fine.

As others have said everyone has the right to their opinion and can like what they like but I just find it a terrible shame that people can’t look past aesthetics and think more collectively that whatever we wear it’s our swans/bloods whether it’s our modern strip or part of our historical strip.

Anyway I do bang on a bit much about this topic

I love the red v, purchased it as soon as I could in fact and for the reasons your outlined,

I just meant we have won in the current, it has its own successful history thats all, should have phrased it better, but also not looking to do in depth jumper analysis

just when its crunch time I would choose to wear our best jumper, the current one

As i said on Friday i was disappointed but within a minute i got over it as we are 1 club with 2 cities following apart from so many everywhere . I suppose that person would prefer 2 blues colours

I’m one of those rare ones that started supporting in 1985 so I only knew the Red V Sydney Swans took some reading and old inside Football magazines and video called Footy Brawl to learn of South Melbourne.

It was that first Sydney Swans jumper that got me in and not long after they changed it on me. :)

Love that you bought one.
