We will beat Port Adelaide

Falling 2 games behind Port and Geelong after rd 10 would put top 2 in serious peril, so the Hawks just need to find a way to win.
I am sure we can peg it back, we have done it in the past. Besides, whilst neither scenario I listed is ideal (as I stated) neither are close to beyond us either. IF we did fall behind both Port and the Cats and finished 3rd or 4th, it is fair to assume we will be fielding a stronger team than what we will field when we play you guys in 2 weeks. If we can go through these injuries, get players fit and still finish top four, this could all be a blessing. Guys like Mitchell, Rioli, Lake, Sewell, Shiels, Spangher, Whitecross and possibly Anderson all very fit come September is not a bad thing. We just have to make sure we win enough games to make the top 4. Top 2 is ideal scenario, but that is always a given anyway.

Will be a great test for us even minus a couple of your stars. Not really that confident, more hopeful, but will be another great test for where we are at and where we need to get to, to challenge you guys at the top as you are the benchmark still.

Gibbo to take Schultz is an obvious match up.

Port are littered with medium size forwards which suits our backline better & hopefully that means Shoey can play FWD.

INS: Hodge, Shiels
OUTS: Roughy (susp), Simpkin

This. Was thinking this during the week as well. If we are going to take on a top side and win with a depleted backline Port are probably it.

Spanger is in serious doubt to even play for Box Hill this weekend so do not hold your breath for him to play against Port.
Spangher is an A grade defender , and when our regulars is out he is automatic. He gives everything, I'd like to know just how bad he is , if he won't make Box Hill this week.
Cheney gives his all too , just misses the spot sometimes and always has to play against impossible odds. Is there another position he could be useful in because he absolutely plays for his life, but Spangher , well he is in the best 22 I reckon , he is sorely missed at the moment , hope Hodgey is OK , the Roughhead one week, is an act of stupidity and injustice in our game. If anything he should have been commended for lowering his body as far as he could ,now maybe I'm blind but will someone else say that they saw our old mate Chapman lift the elbow and fair dinkum whacked an opponent in the head, well I'm being a smarty of course, because he did, if Roughy got a week Chappy should have got two .
I hope anmd pray and I'm seriuos , that Gillon does something next season about the greyness of the bump, even players don't know from one minute to the next what they can do, and that depends on people watching it on film which is distorted from reality , even in normal time and not slow-mo.

I think though that the way we capitulated in the first quarter against Sydney won't happen again, and the fact that we came back and led, shows that even as a weakened injured side we can match up to anyone, Port are really good but this is a really even contest and its an anyones game situation.

I'll just say this "we can win this match" but a first quarter like last week will be a very bad sign. When the general and his lieutenants are out or off, players of the ilk of our 50 games to 100 games players must step up to the plate. I reckon they lost the first quarter in the head , I really do, what do others think about that, because that lost us the game.

He tore ligaments in his ankle.

The biggest problem recently has been not winning the ball in the middle. Losing Sammy sucks but don't underestimate what Hodge, Sewell and Shiels could add (if they line up). Cheney might go out for Spangher leaving Schoenmakers forward. Grimley or TOB to come in for Roughead. Weird team but we could get it together with more poise in the middle.

Clarko seemed pretty pissed off post game last week. No matter what they will come out firing in Adelaide. Could actually be a cracker of a game.

Why was Clerko so pissed about? It was his stupid decision to start Shoenmakers in the forward line at the start of the match and giving them the early ascendency that totally backfired. You could see it was all catch up footy after that. It was OK if we had our entire “A” grade mid field brigade on the park but it was asking too much from young kids. Add to that although we thought our rucks will be better than theirs they won the centre clearances time and again specially in the first quarter.

Clarko is an excellent couch who gave us two cups and we salute him and adore him for that. But sometimes in crunch games like with Cats and in this game with all the hype with Buddy - these are the games we really need to win and show our class. I don’t mind even losing to teams like Melb/Stk/Bears rather than losing to teams like Cats. That’s dents the morale of the team. Everybody is so afraid to call the “King is naked” when he is when it comes to Clarko.

To be honest i'd prefer we win the finals we've won than games in rd 8 and rd 5 of a season regardless of the Buddy hype. They're the games I think we "really need to win and show our class" and we have. Of course in an ideal world we'd win everything but we don't live in an ideal world as shown by our luck with injuries at the moment.

I think the things you note (starting Schoey back, tagging JK3 in the first quarter who in close is near un-taggable) are probably exactly what Clarko was pissed about don't you? It's not like he came out and said I was perfect, the players were crap. He was pissed because Hawthorn (He is a big part of Hawthorn) didn't play well enough for long enough to win. He would take his share of blame for that.

Playing schoey down back from the start wouldn't have made a difference to our mids getting smashed. He probably thought they'd get beat but not as bad as they did.

Also conversely if schoey didn't start fwd and our mids broke even, they would have only had one genuine marking fwd to kick to meaning you become predictable.

Our philosophy which is obvious is, we go into every game trying to win by backing our players and structures in, not by trying to save games.

We lost a game of football by not being switched on from the start. Playing schoey back or fwd wouldn't have made a difference to the result against any team if our midfield gets beaten the way it did in the first quarter.

Thinking back over the game last week, I think many underestimate how good the Sydney midfield is. They were sensational the other night, probably played slightly above themselves. If they are on, they are as good as it gets. That is why we lost, and not by a whole lot actually. I actually beginning to feel more confident of our chances. I wonder if the game plan will be slightly different, we may see the team play a little more like they did in the GF last year. With Sewell and Hodge back in the side, we got some tough guys that can hit the ball hard and bully the Port side a bit.

Help!

My Cousin and I bought plane tickets and prepaid hotel room so we can go and watch the mighty hawks play Port Adelaide next week at Adelaide Oval and all the GA tickets have sold out!

We have called the club to see if they can help and unfortunately they cant.

Can anyone help 2 desperate Hawk supporters.

Thanks

Luke

To make it a little less horrible, the unedited version of that cartoon is quite funny:
