This is the one thing that's giving me the shits, his management should've come out two weeks ago when this was all stoked by the Vic media and put a pin in it. Instead it's all gone into overdrive and it's why people think he'll be out the door at the end of the year.

A simple 'He's happy here.' or 'We're working through an extension with West Coast.' would've sufficed.
Why would that do that? And where do you think the murmurs come from? Why do Victorian clubs think he's gettable?

His manager is creating a competitive market for his services, coming out and saying "we're working through an extension" doesn't maintain a competitive market.

So 3 players since the guidelines came in to effect.

I'd be very surprised if any young player or manager is thinking "quick let's get a LT deal in place in case you get concussion".

I don't think it's having any impact on draftee contracts tbh.

Sounds great.

Until you are the unlucky one hey?

If managersbarent talking to their clients about risk v reward, risk v security they arent very good managers.

Do you purchase insurance btw?

Of course they do.

This is why project talls and back of the list smalls sign early extensions. Their risk of not being offered a contract if they are seriously injured is high, plus other clubs are much more unlikely to want to chase them versus simply keeping their own versions of these players around.

Players like Harley are going to get offered another contract, somewhere, unless they are medically retired. How many contracts did that McCartin (sp?) bloke get even when he was suffering a concussion if he sneezed?

The risk v reward equation is completely different and slanted in favour of waiting and maximising the value of contract #2 for Harley.

It's one game in...a storm in a teacup...relax, there'll be new dramas next week, and the week after. In fact there'll never-ending dramas all season, especially if you tune into the footy media..
I’m starting to think the juice ain’t worth the squeeze. Harley has been the most exciting player comp-wide, brought joy to my viewing experience and titillating like Judd was.
However it is a distraction, big time. I was a believer in drafting the best talent but I’ve swung to making our team a WA based entity.

Nic Nat, JK, McGovern .. Glass, Cousins, Kerr.. Kemp, Matera, Jakovich. Judd was a lynchpin of course of Victoria descent but maybe we could’ve acquired the legendary Lance Franklin.
West is Best. If or obviously when Harley leaves I bet he will be wistful about his time here, the lifestyle, vibes, adulation… let’s be real, the Eagles WILL bounce back - but it will be from a WA born superstar or two

On a side note looking at the flag favourites, it’s galling to see Hawthorn, Brisbane, Geelong up there in the market. The club and fans have been so hubristic and entitled over the years. We are about to be humbled and we are going to have a middling period and probably left in the dust for a while on the AFL premiership table. I am confident we will blitz our way back this century though

Waiting for yippie Yi yeo’s “take a breath champion” “trademark” remark

I'd like to think I'm at peace with whatever happens to Harley, go or stay.
'What will be will be' is my mantra now, it's a win either way, depending on draft picks. It's just the media blitz that p*sses me off. I'm on team Eagles, not team Harley (through no fault of his own). We know what we'll get from Harley, so I'm more focused on Hewett's development tbh.

Why would harley want to leave to play for some minnow club like essendon?

He can earn $2.5m getting flogged playing for the biggest & one of the most successful clubs in Australia in the middle of a rebuild, or he can earn $2.5m getting flogged at Marvel ****in' stadium playing for some basket case shithole club perpetually treading water in no man's land?

Bombers are dogshit and that list is going nowhere. WC will experience some pain for the next couple of years, but we're at least all-in on the rebuild and will rise quickly from there.

Why would you want to be coached at Essendon by that tosser Scot.

My 1 wish when Juddy left was ge didnt win a flag at Carlton... that was it... I didn't think we'd contend again for ages but then we got JK, a flag and Judd didn't so it worked out sweet!

Whoever leaves WCE (not just Harley) I wish the same

*never wish them harm or to play poorly... hey win 59 Brownlows if u want but no flags

Question; Do WC fans really think he is out the door?

I think if we show any signs of potentially improving (not a great start Rd 1) he'll sign an extension for a couple of years

If it continues to be belting after belting personally wouldn't blame him for a second to look to go home. If he does leave though i just can't see him wanting to go from a rabble in the west to another potential rabble back home.

Most of you sacks need to grow a pair. Maybe cheer louder for our boy instead of fretting his departure. If we improve he’s gonna stay, so let’s get on that before we piss our pants collectively 🤝
You see this is what I hate.

This smacks of Harley being greater than the club and the club needing to prove itself to Harley before he decides to grace us with his presence for another 3 years or whatever.

Is he's got this mentality then as far as I'm concerned he can go.

No one player is greater than the club and I think this is what's happened in the last 5 year's which has decimated our club.

We aren't on a mission to prove ourselves to Harley. Harley needs to prove himself worthy of us offering a new contract and work his arse off and learn to be the player we WANT to keep.

And we certainly arent on a mission to improve for Harley.
We want this once great club to get back to its roots and hold everyone accountable for their contribution to it....otherwise piss off.

I agree with this to a point.

Some of the suggestions posted, "let's recruit his best mate to the Beagles, let's recruit his girlfriend for the AFLW".

I really want him to stay, but if he doesn't to, we cash in and move on.

Not for Harley I agree - but if you in reality have options, and for 2 years prior and 3 years during your playing days here there aren’t so much as green shoots?

I agree he’s not above the team and needs to work hard to contribute to that. But I think any of our players that are witness to season after season of nothingness and have opportunity elsewhere might do well to look at it.

We need to show all our kids we can be a winning football club again or if they are any good they will be sniffed around for by rival clubs. That’s pro sport

Yeah I agree with this as well.
