Judd was magic with his otherworldly pace from game 1. Funny seeing early 2002 games where he would be by himself on the wing (no tag). Reid seems a bit more consistent so far though, also can’t believe how fast he is to go with the fend-offs and collecting the ground ball, and marks. I am fantasising that he is the best player ever. If he doesn’t get any better he’s at superstar level already basically

He seems to be a very quick learner

Starting to see the sort of things he was doing in match sim during preseason that helped build the hype

Then in the games against Fremantle and Adelaide he struggled to make the leap from training intensity to actual AFL competition even when they were scratch matches. Looked every bit a first year player

Each game he learns and he’s become better each week and his confidence is growing. Almost exponentially

And he’s only 6 games into his career

We also got good players around Judd as 1 gun isn’t enough. Just hope we can get some more quality players around Reid.

A point I mentioned earlier with Reid and the hype that already surrounds him; I hope other young or new ones rise to the occasion with him, especially in the midfield - who have we got coming through in the midfield for example who can compliment him - Hewett, Culley, Hall?

Of course we do. In the wet against Hawthorn.

The going back 20 years is because Reid is obviously the best midfielder we’ve drafted since Judd.

Shuey, Masten, Gaff, and Sheed were our latest crop of midfielders drafted that won us a flag, but they weren’t on the same level as Judd.

This Reid kid is and it’s bloody exciting to think we might be on the verge of once again potentially witnessing something similar of that early 2000’s era.

He mentioned in pre-draft interviews that he wanted to come up with a celebration that was fairly unique (at least for an AFL player).
Suffice to say he's given it some thought.

Tom Morris said $2m…. To which Bartel said absolutely not - $1.2-1.5 so we can pay other players.

Which got me thinking, other players will WANT to play with Harley. Not just our guys, but jut draftees, but established players also.

He will help with recruiting.

Our salary cap being the way it is we will be able to pay almost whatever we need to. TBF (without knowing him) I think Harley would take a small haircut off market rate (say $1.3 rather than $1.5) if he was more confident of success. Yeah money is money but you can’t buy premierships. He knows he needs at least some supporting cast around him and $200k will improve the quality of the support

Tom Morris is a flog but I don't think he meant make him a $2M/year player (surely not...?).

Just give the current status on him being 3 years at minimum wage it presents a good opportunity for West Coast to offer him massive overs for a contract extension and smooth that out.

Eg. Us offering $2M/year for 3 extra years only makes him a ~$1M/year player.

No other club is capable of matching that sort of deal. Based off what he's shown thus far I think he's worth it (who else do we really have to spend on).

You don't want to pay guys big money too early.. but then Harley is no ordinary player.

My 9yo son, a Bulldogs supporter, is now officially a Harley Reid fan. Just Harley, he says now, but good enough for me! Wants to come to games together again

He is exactly what the Eagles need, he will bring people through the door & put #9 blue & gold guernseys on kids.

Few people seem to have the vision of Stevey Wonder comparing Reid's explosiveness or pace with Judd.

Eagles Judd was on another level, not remotely seen since.

Reid is powerful no doubt, but you're on another planet thinking Reid cruising out of a stoppage is anything like Judd exploding from a contest and leaving a collection of opposition in his wake.

Half as explosive as Judd. Apples and oranges. He really is more like Dusty for mine, but much better overhead, a Dusty/Toby Greene

I think one of the Judd boys is a eagles supporter so if we can keep Harley we might attract one or both.Question is will they be any good?

100%. My kids all jumped up first thing Sunday and put on the Kayo mini of the game. I don't think they have done that since mid 2020. They were asking who the players were and expressing a lot of interest.

The constant, uncompetitive losses are (were?) like acid on a kid's interest in the club.

The Harley hype is going to be a great restorative for the club's reputation.
