How about Andrew Embley?

Very similar height and he could take a hanger. Great goal kicking winger. :thumbsu: :thumbsu:

190cm is not even close to a tall forward these days, looks like a decent prospect who could be something now that he will be in a full time professional environment.

From the 6pr interview sounded like he only really committed to VFL this year coming from a country league. 6 months into VFL and now hes on a list, clearly hes got some improvement to go.

Best case hes a flanker/winger for the future which we currently lack

A speedy highflying half forward with good footy smarts - what's not to like?
Could be a Mr. Fixit s-wingman.
Another Trinity boy.
He'll make a difference in the Wafl, as a warm up!

Very very very curious about what position the club actually sees him playing and has drafted him for.

Medium forwards, let alone one's in our terrible team don't really excel at AFL level. He'd be behind so many players in the pecking order if that was the case, so I really doubt it.

If he's the best talent available that's interesting, seems a utility type but I scratch my head thinking we had one of those right at our doorstep in Ruscoe 🤔

Very odd choice. Makes the Beagles game a bit more interesting.

Could still grab Ruscoe as a DFA at the end of the year.

At the end of the day, he’s effectively a rookie selection and not likely to make a massive impact on this year.

However it seems like there are some things we all will like. Can mark the ball, has some pace, good size. Nice kick for goal judging by the videos.

Compliant to the Collingwood set up was an interesting comment as well. In those HF roles, that’s fairly important. Combine that with a good work rate- lots to work with.

I really enjoy the MSD- it gives a shot to guys that may have thought the AFL was maybe out of reach, or for late bloomers like Jack, a reward for the resilience and hard work to get to this point. I wish him well.

IMO the most talented player in the pool to be picked. Either him, Maric or both are moving to the back half / wing.

Duanne and I share a similar philosophy about where the game is heading moving forwards in regards so speed, height and in particular marking from outside players. He has good skills and I think he will only get better in an AFL environment.

Very, very happy with this pick.
At last some sense

Would we be questioning Bailey Fritch as a pick? I think not

Ryan is a shadow of himself
Brockman is a bust unless he can turn himself around
Cripps is on his final contract

As far as wing and hbf, who would the forwards want kicking to them? Someone who knows how to play forward.

He is far more than a high marking forward. Hell, Jamie Elliott is predicted to win mark of the year but is super busy on the ground.

The game speed will hopefully see more one on one marking

Good foot skills, good speed, 2 way runner, tackled well, clean hands. Yeh, sounds like a wasted opportunity

I wouldn’t be so fixated on position in modern footy. He has a good attack on the footy, has power, decent kick and leap, shown rapid improvement in short period of time and interestingly noted, he adheres to the Collingwood system very well (so is coachable). I’m onboard.

Nah mate it's not like any player ever changed positions.

McGovern is a forward.
Naughton is a defender.
J.Cripps is a back/ outside mid.
Dawson is a defender.
Crisp is a defender.
D.Rioli is a small forward.
Howe is a forward.

Generally it's easier for forwards to transition up the ground than the opposite.

Initial fear based on how media describe him as a high flying forward was that it wasn't an area of need
But looking at highlights he seems more suited to a ground ball game, given he is quick, goes full throttle at the ball, & his body shape is like a wrecking ball.
Actually can't think of anyone to compare him to, so no idea where he ends up playing. If he's got a tank, wing may well be it. But pressure forward would fit too.
On further thought, Mitch Robinson springs to mind with perhaps more athleticism but maybe less football smarts

People are acting like hes 6'6 and slow, hes 6'3 and fast as ****

Another piece of our next premiership team - what number will he get>does anyone wear 49?

Cully is # 49, suggest it is # 46 as thats vacant.

Could still grab Ruscoe as a DFA at the end of the year.

Best scenario is another team takes Rotham as an UFA we get a 3rd rounder. Tigers or North.

We then bring in Ruscoe for free as DFA who IMO ends up an upgrade as he can play forward.

We get back our 3rd rounder we traded out and have a better player plus we grabbed Hutchinson.

Mitch Robinson had football smarts?

Courage yes. Hard as a cats head, yes.

Smarts........? Not so much.

High marking? Not really.
