So Petracca was not a star in the first few AFL years

Nah not at all, there were question marks over him when he was playing that half-forward role as many thought he was under performing given he was a high draft pick.

When he moved to the midfield permanently was when he really took off as a player

But as Phil said, Culley doesn't have that explosive athleticism that Petracca does. At best Culley might be a poor man's Bont

Who's a better comparison?
Patrick Cripps? The Bont?

Neither at the moment. Bont is a completely different player despite being similar height.

Hard to say who Culley plays like because we haven’t really seen enough of him other than being a tackling machine in the midfield, and an opportunistic forward (sample size of 1)

Jesus, throwing out Petracca, Cripps and Bont as potential comparisons, give the kid a chance. He's a mid season draft pick up.

If he plays 200 games and makes the AA squad of 40 once or twice in that time we'll have had a massive win.

You're right.. Expecting him to be as good as that lot is grossly unfair.

He'll be far better, imo.

They are nothing alike. Petracca is athletically explosive. Culley is absolutely not.

They are both bigger bodied players who can play forward or on ball. In that sense they are similar.

Culley is taller.

Petracca is more explosive and quicker.

Culley will improve but likely won't be as quick or as explosive.

How about a taller Priddis?

speed and explosiveness seem to be genetic lottery items for sure. You can train for it a lot for basically insignificant gains.

Season 3 Leave GIF by Martin

Culley can take a contested mark and has better foot skills

Thought they'd give in to Van Rooyen because of his last quarter in a close game but so happy to be wrong there. Well done young champ. Re-sign asap

Sure JVR had a good game but I’m skeptical enough to believe the AFL wants to sell hope to the teams in the doldrums and will always lean to giving players on shit teams the star

Petracca was lightning quick as a junior. Culley is slow. Petracca would still very easily have Culley covered for top speed and even more so on burst speed.
I read it somewhere Petracca ran 3 sec flat for 20m sprint in the draft camp. Certainly faster than some, but i dont think he was lightning quick. He is certainly quicker with handball and kick though.

Loving the low torp for a goal

Has to be burying dog Jonas and slamming home the free kick.

Is it just me or do our good young blokes seems to be getting targeted a bit? Dangerflog clearly had it in for Ginbey.

Wish we flew the flag a bit more tbh.

Just remember kids are tested multiple times not just at the combine for one and secondly it's those first few steps of speed which are important in game. This is where Petracca is explosive.

They are just very different players.

Well done to Culley on the rising star nomination and here's hoping he progresses to be a strong inside mid for us.

Whether its done through reading the play, an explosive first few steps or strength what both Culley and Ginbey really need to focus on is on getting first hands to the ball at stoppages. If they can both do that we are a lot further along in our rebuild than some people think.

Yeah I was surprised at the lack of response when Jonas hit him, although to be fair it was a head clash. Pretty sad either way
