•Stop playing him
•Give him the cold shoulder ala Sonny Walters
•Wish him all the best at North Melbourne
Lol I wish teams did this

At this point we're just trying to increase his trade value and credit to him for actually starting to perform at a pretty high level.

As someone else said, I wouldn’t blame him for wanting out based purely on the s**t he’s copped from Freo fans on social media over the years, where he seems to spend a bit of his time. I’d get the * out too and * all youse all.
Yeah but unless he's planning to go to one of the only 2 clubs more irrelevant then us then he'll cop it wherever he goes if he doesn't perform. Would be surprised if that has any bearing on him leaving.

It doesn’t help. All he has to do is look at how Serong and Young are lauded by everyone to feel on the outer. Then he just needs to look at how his mate Pickett was treated at the Dees to feel like the grass is greener. He’s obviously someone who responds to positive attention. Maybe for his personality this stuff matters.

Henry doesn't strike me as the type of player that can just seemingly fit in anywhere and have on field success. If you're going well best to just stay there's no guarantees in other sides/systems. Ask Rory.
What makes you think that about Liam? His body has finally caught up with his talent at this level now. And he’s not an entitled sook like Rory is.

Is he actually worth a first rounder now? I’d say he is. His value is climbing massively the last couple of months.

Yes, certainly you have to deal with irrationality wherever you go. It seems he cops it whether he performs or not (I'd imagine the degree of that will change with a bigger body of work, although you will get people who won't ever let the negative narrative go). There might be a feeling it's at a healthier level out of a 2 club town, but that's probably more a Vic narrative.

Not sure it would be a huge factor in the decision-making, but it might be on the pile somewhere.

I'm no Henry apologist, but he definitely cops it hard from a few blokes in my area.

I always find it funny that Henry can do ten good things and there's silence, but when he muffs one thing they go off at him. But when Brayshaw, Darcy or Walters stuff something up, it's crickets.

People are strange.

I think any player carrying high expectations and then stacking on top of that a suggestion that they might leave tends to trigger the emotional defense mechanisms.
no point trying to explain or rationalise the absolute rubbish that Henry has received over his short career. its a genuine embarrassment the way some supporters have treated him

You'd hope grown people might be a little more resilient.

Age doesn't bring maturity, or emotional detachment - especially when the "experience" of being an AFL member is so heavily sold on emotional connection.

It's why we, unfortunately, don't have a culture of accepting professionals will be professionals at their existing club but will be moving to a new one next season. One of the few players to ever mention that they are leaving before the season ends was Phil Davis and he copped it for that.

The players have more to gain from being loved by the crowd than they get from those that dislike them, but it doesn't make it easier. The example of this is Michael Walters. He is loooooved by the supporters and walks into contract negotiations with that in his back pocket.

Just watch how fast the crowd will fall into supporting Liam Henry if he kicks a goal this weekend, signals signing to the crowd and gives his jumper a passionate tug. Now he doesn't need to sign after that immediately, but it would be some smart negotiating because now the crowd knows you want to stay.

Even if you don't.

The emotions of the supporters are just as easily deployed for your advantage as they are against you. It's why public relations managers exist.

But Liam is the victim of being assigned a draft pick higher than he warranted, outside of his control, bringing expectations especially when the guys taken the two picks before him have come on so well - coming into the club recovering from a knee injury and then playing training runs on half court fields to try and get a place in the side. Now that there's talk of him looking for opportunities, which he should, and supporters feel like there's still more that has been tipped in by "their" club than Henry has given back.

But most people don't have any idea how much it sucks to be a professional athlete, so I expect the people who are most likely to yell at Henry at the game if he makes a mistake are also the ones who think he gets paid a fortune to run around playing a game he loves and it's that simple.

Ummmm...yes... watching football and following a team can be an emotional experience.

You'd hope grown people would be a little more resilient.

I was appalled earlier in the year sitting at Optus & some of the vile invective people were screaming out every time he went near the ball.

It’s hardly endearing. Why wouldn’t you take your now-matured talents elsewhere where you’d immediately be embraced, instead playing in front of the campaigners who couldn’t appreciate your development trajectory? (Acknowledging that I’m also one of these campaigners.)

I think he'll find every teams fans are exactly the same when you look piss weak as a player. Liam has only pushed his efforts on gameday because he realises (or been told) it's going to up his value at Fremantle and other teams..
Yes he has talent but I don't think he'll defensively ever meet requirements.
Could we sneak into the first round?

Unfortunately it doesn’t really. He goes to the club he want to go to. He’ll never be worth a 1st round pick so we’ll get the 2nd round pick of whichever club he chooses.
He'll go where he can play and make the most $$. Guaranteed.
