I am very bullish on Dear if he stays fit.
He did extremely well as an underdeveloped KPP.
I expect he will hold his ground a lot better next season, and increased endurance will see him get more opportunistic goals too.

Easily +40 goals.
Also, expecting Scaife coming into the team to take some defensive attention away from Dear.
Dear could get 40 goals, but to say he’ll get 40+ easily is a bit unrealistic.

Maybe I'm missing something here but, Cal looks not too different to what he did last year. 30 goals would be a solid return for a second year kpf at the age of 19!
The biggest difference will be his fitness base. He played quite limited minutes in his early games this year and by his own account he was blowing up because of inadequate fitness. His fitness developed quite well as the season unfolded but it will be at another level next year. In addition he will develop more muscle mass and strength as typically happens with maturity and especially for youngsters who enter an elite program. He will still be a fair way off full physical maturity but he will be different. How that translates into goals per season is a matter for speculation.

One great thing with Calsh is that he is not a mere lead-mark type key forward. He can score goals through different avenues and very threatening in general play.

Now that our forward group’s had a season together, I am quietly expecting big things next year.
His dad was very similar as a forward - very mobile and athletic yet held his own in the ruck. Gives me great joy watching Calsher following in the footsteps of his dad

You can get 30% stronger in a few months and look more or less the same, no probs at all.
People confuse the bodybuilder look of bigger, pumped up muscle mass for improved strength, power, and conditioning.

I was super impressed with Dear. Quick snaps from a pack...no fluke. He kept doing this against very experienced opponents. His reflexes are amazing.
Also, the brilliant soccer goal. And even more so was flying on the goal line, taps the ball to keep it in, gets up like a cat and goals.
You can't teach these things. Genuine Fwd Craft.
We have a rare talent... scary proposition in 2-3 yrs.

His biggest concern is that he'll start coming onto the radar a lot more now, and with Mitchy still out for a while and Cholly just being Cholly, he may find himself drawing the opposition's best defender.

That's why I'm keeping my Calsher expectations in check. 30-35 goals for him would be a strong pass mark.

Calsher kicked the equal most goals this season (with 25) out of all the 2024 draftees, and we got him at pick 56… the other player to kick 25 goals was… yep, Nick Watson :)

We know how to pick’em, eh?
Their output was quite extraordinary for first year players.

I'll say it again, they completely transformed our F50. Offensively and Defensively.

With all the other additions included, it’s amazing how quickly we have transformed our forward line in the space of one season.
144 Goals in 2024 from players not on the list in 2023. 5 of our top 7. Moore 36 and Macdonald 28 the only ones from the year before.

37 - Chol
29 - Gunston
28 - Ginnivan
25 - Dear
25 - Watson

That's a job well done if Dear kicks 30+ goals.
I'm not too worried about his opponents because Dear will also improve.

Yep whilst I like players improving I’d be pretty happy if he put out the same output this year with others around him kicking more - Lewis for example

This is what blew me away too. They were a brand new bunch, now with another preseason, a few beers and some holiday bonding together this forward line is going to be very “Special.”

I think 25-30 is a pass for Calsh next year. He brings much more to the side than just goals. Relieving contested marks up the ground, tackles inside 50 and guiding the ball drop to the smalls.

If he can kick 40 I would be over the moon but think that would be exceeding expectations at this stage.

That being said Calsher has been exceeding expectations from day 1.
