Calsher Dear - Back (TBC)

"He's progressing really well. He'll be at the 12-week mark this Saturday and we're due for another scan which will be done next week. So we've got him back doing sprint drills, we've got him back doing straight-line running at a very controlled pace and the goal is, based on the next scan, to progress his conditioning and how much conditioning we can do and then lateral movement. So all is tracking well at this stage but it really comes down to how the scans look. We're expecting it to be more in the positive but then the progression after that is about how long do we take to get back into football training and obviously playing. There'll be another scan after that as well. It's still very difficult to put an exact timeline but it's progressing the way we wanted it to. Hopefully, after next week, we get some really good news about where we can go with his conditioning."

Easter Monday would be sweet, may not be realistic…. After the half way break if need be…. Long term over short term.

yea, I am talking when he will be available for AFL games, you'd expect him to need at least 4 weeks in Box Hill first, given he will have lost virtually all his conditioning, and will have done zero contact work for the entire 2025 season.
If he is ok to play for Box Hill, he would be playing 2 games maximum at BH, likely just 1, and potentially 0, before playing AFL. He will be doing conditioning stuff before he does contact stuff, before he plays games at either VFL or AFL level. If he is fit to play, he is fit to play.

So where will he line up on Friday do we think ?

Ever the eternal optimist 😢

This kid can be anything. I love his movements. From the separation from his opponent to running and jumping to mark the footy and the little shoves he gives his opponent after the mark. The kid is a treat to watch, love watching a son of a gun.

What’s great from a supporter pov is that he was waaaaaaaay above expectations. No one would have predicted a first season and finals performance like that. The club son and Gunstan mentorship made me cry into my beer. heck

So this means that Chol has to carry the KPF load with possibly some chop out from Gunston until mid year when Dear and Lewis are both back together? Hopefully Scaife can show something at BH because if he’s ever going to break into the team it’s now.

McCabe was an emergency for the Swans game, and more likely at this stage to get a game ahead of Skaife.

He’s got some exciting traits so I am looking forward to seeing him in the seniors.

Has anyone heard anything about his recent checkup scan? I assume if it was only done today then the club will likely brief us tomorrow some time. It would be so awesome to know that it's healing well.
Seems ridiculous when you consider how green he is, but this outcome could have a massive bearing on our flag chances

Burge didn't look too worried when he mentioned the pending scan the other day. Pretty much just said that the scan will show the healing progress which will then lead to another scan which you'd assume if all goes well (fingers crossed) will allow him to get back into ramping up his fitness and the skills work and then maybe a 1/2 a game at BH. I'm hoping it's right after gather round but all we can do is wait.

"He had his 12-week scan last week and that told us everything we wanted to hear which means now we can progress his level of conditioning in the rehab space. He'll increase his volume of running, his kicking will increase, his jumping, agility, all those things. So now we're actually doing what we would do in a pre-season and preparing him for football. The next step is he'll have another scan at the 16-week mark and that will hopefully give us the news that we'll progress to football in particular and full training with the group. Right now, we are in a higher loading phase of conditioning and we've certainly got the comfort levels now that he's ready for that."

Bugs is he aloud to do goal kicking practice or only walking around the boundary, if your been to a training session.

You'd have to ask the regular track watchers that. I'm pretty sure Newmo89 mentioned that he's been doing some basic stuff but you'd assume nothing that would aggravate that back. What about you Pinoy Hawk any idea of what Calsh has been doing whilst at training? All we can do is hope a pray that scan in 4 weeks is okay as he starts to ramp things up and if it is he'll be good to go. Until then we just need to keep on banking wins.

Thanks living in another state I have to rely on what people have posted on here, all the sports news is about the 2 clubs that are here.

He was doing some goal kicking yesterday with Mitch Lewis. Had some set shots and also some snaps around the corner. He's progressing nicely.

His ability to do an entire preseason last year I feel is what set him up for success.

How long will it take, fitness wise, to get up to speed this year?
His ability to do the preseason, and then play almost a full season of footy and perform at high-intensity was likely also the reason for his injury. Going to be a bit of a balancing act from the point where he gets back, I can imagine we'll continue to see him subbed off early, and managed more carefully in general. He and Mabior both ranked in the elite category for tackles last year, and their pressure really was worth its weight in gold. Can't wait to see Calsher back.
