That is dedication! Seriously though, it's interesting to hear your observations.
Haha, it's not so bad. It was a really good game, despite the outcome.

It's also interesting to look at things from a structure sense. It gives me a good idea of how Sam is trying to get us to play.

Finn is really significant structurally from my observation, especially defensively. His running ability allows him to get into position to set up the zone defence, again and again. That and there were several times I'd see him bossing around other players to get them into position to cover ground. That sort of stuff is super important in preventing fast breaks, even if it doesn't offer any statistical reward. Its a really unselfish game - which is what coaches love.

I'm not as convinced as other posters that he's (close to) the first dropped in our team.

More like - is holding up an end and not conceding any runs without taking any wickets, then fielding sweeper and preventing boundaries, without taking any catches.
More like deciding what to do with a delivery, then making the decision as it raps him on the pads.

He's not ready yet. But I suppose whatever is best for his development. If it's AFL gametime then they should stick with him.

He certainly put on a lot of size and is reminding me of JK3. Hope we don't make a similar mistake by trading him.
Now I am reminded of this. Why don't you just give me a paper cut and poor lemon juice on it? If you need me I'll be in the corner hugging my knees and slowly rocking back and forth, quietly sobbing.

Finns an inside mid playing on the outside, not only will this help in the future for his ability on the outside but it has helped alot so far on both his ability to know where to run offensively to find the footy and defensively running. He hasn't had any midfield time and is a midfielder. If he gets some or when, he'll just rack the footy up, he's a bull, he's strong, quick and can find the footy, and is a hard worker, so will only get better with his disposal (by hand he is really good.) this may take time but wow when it does, he'll be a gun and a half and his ceiling is huge.

If it comes down to dropping him, give him full mid time at BH and i think alot of people will begin to realise.

Great disciplined game.

And disposal wasn't conspicuous when he had it.

Plenty to be happy about.
Hid disposal was pretty poor. Take a look again at the majority of his kicks in the first quarter and a half. There were some shockers, and I'm normally a fan.

You can clearly see what he brings. Has arguably the biggest tank in the entire AFL and his contested work is above average. Strong and extremely fit - that's a tantalising combination.

But you can also see his weaknesses. Struggles to hit a target and lacks a burst of speed.

If he works on his disposal and improves his speed (which he has been trying to) he'll make it. But I think we're going to have some painful moments.

He is tracking upwards with small improvements each week, and that disposal doesn't look so flawed it's beyond repair. Plus, he's playing at a pace that's probably impacting his kicking through fatigue and he's yet to adjust, and also has some attacking instincts built into his game.

As long as there are good signs, and the trajectory is in the right direction, we need to keep him in. More than ever in our game there is a role for a runner who can defend, mark and win contests.

Great points though about his speed in particular, and hopefully the pain comes at non critical times!

Great game Finn. You can see the benefit he brings to the team and you need a defensive aerobic beast to balance a talented attacking midfield (when we keep evolving the midfield into it).
I know his disposal is frustrating but he ran over 16kms yesterday, incredible! Which means he is doing everything under fatigue. Once he matures more and gets more experience I believe that disposal efficiency will improve, he will learn what he is capable of and take the safe high % option and be able to execute better. Like all our kids just needs time and experience but will be a great asset to our future side.

If he’s going to make it at AFL level, it will be as a tagger. Did a very good shut down role on a key player yesterday.

We prob all thought Duke or Nash were going to be that defensive / tagging inside mid. However both have shown how valuable they are as attacking mids running through the arcs. Finn needs to play for the remainder or the season as a tagging inside mid. Tell the kid this is your role I want you to shutdown the oppositions best. It will be the quickest way for his development and he will start to not only be a stopper but will Learn to also attack when the time is right

Lacks a burst of speed? 😂

It's probably not a great feeling for a young kid to be given a tagging role and not aloud freedom to play your normal role, but he has the size/tank to become the best stopper in the game which Is a role I feel like we haven't utilised as often as other teams.
