My take on Omeara playing AFL is this.

The majority of hawthorn supporters are not on big footy and do not follow VFL footy so are not exposed to his comeback like most of us big footy supporters are.

By bringing him back in the AFL for the last 2 games (both on free to air) it will remove the hysteria around Omeara to the majority of supporters and the greater football public.

Clarko said as much in his presser a number of weeks ago.

Just my 2 cents worth anyway.

Think you could be spot on.

My take is a bit simpler. If he is 100% fit, he plays, any time.

Therefore he must have full confidence in his body and the club must have full confidence in him.

I think it's probably so the club can show to him that they have confidence in him. If they kept him in the VFL he may have doubted it a bit. Putting him back in the side can only give him a bit of a boost.

As reported on the AFL website:

O'Meara had not played a match since round six because of bone bruising in his right knee, a problem related to the issues that sidelined him in the 2015 and 2016 seasons, before that Box Hill turnout.

Now hasn't Hawthorn always maintained that it's a totally unrelated injury?

Someone telling porky pies here.....

As if you would put stock in anything on that website :)

I don't buy that. It's actually pretty simple.

He has proven that his body is up to playing footy. And he is plainly a class above VFL and is in Hawthorns best 22. So he plays for Hawthorn. Puopolo likewise.

Yeah, I noticed those comments from Clarko too. I hope they haven't put too much weight on this factor though. I hate to think we'd be making important selection decision based on reacting to media hype and supporter expectations. Hopefully the simpler explanation, that they feel he's fit and ready to play is what has really happened.

I think Clarko eventually admitted in a presser that it wasn't the same issue, but one that was in fact related.

The article also says O'Meara was 'rushed' back. I guess 15 weeks to get himself right since his injury is a pretty quick turnaround.

Clowns.

My take is this...

He's had a long term injury. He's now fit. He's had a hit out at VFL level from which he has recovered well and where he played well. He therefore now plays seniors.

Anyways, very good that he is back playing. Crap injuries are crap and he's had a rough few years. Hope that he gets a clear run at it from now on.

Were having a crack and not dying wondering about playing finals. Get some miles into jaeger's legs and his knee while were at it. 2 high pressure games with a bit riding on it will do him the world of good. We have a pretty bloody strong team bar i rekon cyril and birchall now so lets leave nothing on the table.
