Historically, getting the ball was his thing. Second best player in the history of the U18 comps at pure accumulating.

He's also got a very quick first few steps and has amazing agility. Not sure why he hasn't come on more.

Yeah that hasn't translated much at VFL level, only averaging 16 or 17 touches in 18 games this year I'm pretty sure.

For clarification- as we delisted him, do we have first dibs on him or can anybody pick him up?

As other posters have mentioned, I'd like to see him given one last chance rookied let him play to his strengths and under Mitchell's coaching. His TAS numbers too good to ignore and would love to turn him around from a 1st round bust.

The sooner people realise Sam Mitchell is an assistant coach and not a magician the better.

No doubt he's a great asset to any footy club, and will add to our already great football department.

However, it seems people think he can turn water into wine.

Any chance of Spangher replacing Andrew Russel?

This is a point worth making. We did have an extremely good midfield coach (Ratten) before Mitchell came across. If there's a net gain I would be surprised if it is an enormous difference.

Although I do hope this is how it plays out.

Have we delisted Lovell?

It is exciting to see what 100% coaching focused Mitchell can bring but a lot need to lower their expectations but I think it's worth asking how much influence Mitchell had while playing and how much impact was just Ratten's, Mitchell had a very heavy role in his last few years.

So you are saying it would be a miracle for Mitchell to improve Lovell?

All of Lovell's best work is done in space. He can be creative when he is given the ball, even under pressure. He is not so great at winning the ball, especially at stoppages. If Mitchell can fix this, it will certainly be a miracle. But it kinda makes sense, given their body shape, and I think you can see that Lovell is not doing the right things at stoppages at the moment - he is not making the right moves and so doesn't look like winning the ball. I wonder how much of that is attitude and how much is style and I would like to see Mitchell change the way Lovell approaches the stoppages. If there is no such change, Lovell needs to find a new position to play.

I dont think keeping Lovell because Sam Mitchell came on board is the right option.

If we keep Lovell, it should be because we believe he can make it. The coaches can help, but hes already had Ratten and Burns (two great assistants). Thr notion Mitchell can do more than the other two is ridiculous.

Probably gets one more year if we dont get a DFA or two

So your saying that there is no chance that Sammy can resurrect Lovellras?

What if he wears a shawl and sandals?

Sorry, I thought we had, together with Swiss. FM don't know why I thought I had read that

Edit; we haven't even made our list lodgement yet!
I must have had the same dream as you. Could have sworn I read that too.

Fwiw, he's donned the number 36 jumper so it does not bode well for him. Unless of course ORA works his magic quickly.

Someone posted it like it was fact during the week, we will find out by Wednesday I guess

Where has it been confirmed he has been delisted?

The way I see it is Andrew Moore is playing the role that Lovell is suited to. This is largely due to our coaching staff wanting flexibility in Lovell. Give him bulk minutes in the engine room, if he doesn't turn things around, you cut him.
