I wasn't sure on this take in the last few weeks but I can see it a bit now. He seems to lack that sharpness that a good small forward has. Definitely buys into the defensive side but could be one that doesn't out perform his draft position.

Butts has x factor, have seen it in the vfl more. Still need to be more than he has shown, but i believe it will come.

He's said as much himself when interviewed by Talking Hawks that he needs to bring his VFL moments to the AFL, and that's what his focus is around.

VFL - Round 18

15 disposals - 4 marks - 2 tackles - 2 goals - 2 behinds

Butler has had 9 scoring shots in the last two games in the VFL. One of the reasons he was sent back to the VFL is because he didn’t win enough of the ball at AFL level.

10-14 disposals, 5-6 tackles and whatever he scores/assists would be my benchmark for him at senior level.
He was doing well for a month but his form fell away after that.
He will be a 🔫

This year Brockman has really started driving his legs both to burst away, and to close on his opponents. That's why he's picked every week now.

Challange is there for Butler to do the same. I don't think it'll take him long, he has all the tools.

Second to Weddle in the time trial? That’s impressive.
Yes, if it's a sign of things to come then it will challenge quite a few assumptions about what our best forward 6 or 7 looks like for round 1.

It's going to be impossible to fit all of Breust, Watson, Ginnivan, Moore, Gunston, MacDonald and Butler into the same side (presumably Lewis and Chol will be KPP locks).

Of all of those players listed there Butler would be the best at tackling and pressuring. I really hope he gets a chance early in the season.

Injuries inevitable.
Form ups and downs.

…and competition is good.

Htf this guy outrun maginness?

We were all talking about Finn being able to outrun the best mids in the competition and now an underperforming small forward beats him.
That's a bit rough. He has had his injury issues got a clean run at it this year and has given himself every chance to succeed.

He looks the most physically transformed player on the list since last season. Can barely recognise him.
In the flesh, you can see it clearly. Upper body muscle to fill out in coming seasons but right now, very lean legs and a really defined physique when compared to similar age/shape/position. Aerobic capacity opens up field position options and running patterns etc.

Good on him, got some real competition for smaller forwards.

The kid definitely looks fitter leaner so obviously he is working super hard. Hopefully the reward of coming 2nd in the 2km run will give him confidence and plenty of belief for next year.

Butler looking in fine shape.

The tape on the lower part of the knee. Can someone enlighten me as to how this helps or what's it for, please?

You forgot Dimma. This is serious.
