Do we know he has been the person who makes 100% of the decisions?
Glenn Archer and then Brady Rawlings.
North's recruiters wanted Logan MacDonald but were over ruled as there was a fear of the go home factor. They also wanted to push Adelaide to get 3 first round picks and player for the number 1 pick but again were over ruled as North wanted the media coverage of having a number 1 pick.

The three first that were on offer would have been massive for them.

Sam said in his presser today that this appointment hasn't been confirmed by the club yet. They're still going through the final parts of the interview process.

The first offer involved North sending back their 2022 2nd round pick so if Melbourne win the flag and North the spoon it was really only 2 first round picks.
North's recruiters wanted to negotiate for 3 first rounders outright and a fringe player but were shut down by Rawlings.

Horne Francis or Rachele, 2022 pick 4 and 18 plus a fringe Crow?

They could've traded for pick 2 and then traded with the Suns, 3+19+Brodie for Pick 2 was very much on the cards.

I always find it funny how the footy public believe that everyone at a struggling club is bad at their job and everyone at a successful club is excellent at their job. You get mediocre staff at great clubs and great staff at mediocre clubs. The reasons for a club to be poor performing is a multitude of intersecting things, not because every person at every level is incompetent.

Further to that, it's pretty clear (to me at least) that North aren't struggling because they lack talented youth. They have plenty of young talent. North are crap for a number of reasons that include the fact that their senior core is comfortably the worst in the comp. They gutted the club and barely have a decent contributor over 25. Their list also lacks balance - which can be attributable to the recruiting team - but we have no idea who made those decisions.

Rather than looking at the ladder, I think it says more that the article identifies that he is "highly rated" and "has received multiple offers over the journey for his services" and he is leaving due to dissatisfaction with North's culture (indicating they didn't want him gone).

Doesn't help that they lost Cunnington. Makes them a 5 goal better side. I know they've had some beltings, but he's a genuine star as an inside mid.
Cunnington is 31, he can't be their saviour. They need to find a way to win without him anyway.

I often see that it’s the top down management that make poor decision making that have biggest impact, ceo / president and in afl coach at the end of the day everyone beats to their drum in any organisation.

And north has plenty of poor decisions for whatever reason

its even more damaging with JHF effectively hinting he might want to head home after his 2 years are up by not signing and then heading home to SA randomly and not caring if the club knows or not.

unless something changes dramatically in the next 12 months, i reckon he's gone.

Not sure if it’s to ease speculation but North have said all players were told they could head home for a few days which is what JHF did

The title of Player Acquisition Manager - would this indicate his responsibility would be more in the trades/free agency space?
It would be nice to hear what the club sees in him, what they know about him etc.
They obviously really rate him.

I know we got the generic lines from MM about the appointment, but it would be nice if MM spoke about what he has seen from MF that made the hawks chase him and i guess create a new position for him. Im sure these guys cross paths and get to know each other a bit in their jobs as list managers/recruiters/track watching.

Sounds like a good appointment though, excited to see what he brings.

Almost 20 years in the industry, probably 15 years of strong relationships and connections, I would say that would be pretty perfect for the role, and we would have had significant understanding of his previous experience.

Ontop of that I really rate MM so with his guidance and management is a really crucial piece of experience we have just added to the team in an area that will become a focus from next year on as we get closer to the window.

100%. I agree he's probably going to be a fantastic acquisition.

It would just be cool to hear those things from MM as well. (Not a criticism or anything like that).

I'm not questioning him and his ability for the new role at all, I can only guess he's a fantastic pickup given all the experience he has..

Would just love to know from MM or the recruiting department what made them go after him. Sort of like you hear about assistant coaches when the club brings in new ones.

Maybe i'm just not explaining myself very well, haha.
