He was my favourite Eagle of the past couple years, glad the deal got done for him the way he wanted. From late 2016 on he was a super reliable presence for us. Will miss seeing him in our navy kit especially, and his calm humble bearing on field. Hope he can win another flag with you guys! A lot of footy fans will be intrigued to see what Mitchell cooks up for this side in 2025 given the new acquisitions.

Bloody interesting guy, hardly your archetypal ‘footballer’.

Thanks for posting.
Articulate, cool calm and composed. You can tell he would be a real leader and we sought him out not just for his football ability. Once he gets up and running he will be marshalling the troops in the backline there won't be any need for Sic to do it. The more leadership we have our on the ground the more organised we will be across the board.

Tom is the anti-Brian that Hok Ball demanded, able to perform the Brian role without needing to post the weekly bargains.

But seriously happy that Sam has a memory long enough to know that winging it with an undersized attacking backline can only get you so far. We don't need to fear the big forwards now, because we have the size, choice and talent in the KDP to take care of whoever walks out on any given day.

The gears just shifted into our first contender phase with this side you'd think.

We have a crazy-young, talented forward line, and a midfield full of emerging talent. Newcombe and Day are scraping the the mid tier of the early Hodge/Mitchell years too.

Mackenzie and Ward get on board, and it's going to come in a rush.

Welcome Tom, your time is now!

We can make do with Sicily/Weddle/Gunston/Battle as the 3rd tall option up forward until Lewis is ready IMO. Enough marking power from all of them to cause absolute headaches for the opposition. If anything having a slightly smaller more agile 3rd tall suits our gameplan anyway. Barass, Scrim and Frost can hold down key posts down back on a weekly basis if necessary and have options up our sleeve to chop and change. We have some serious depth now it's quite enticing.

The only caveat I'd throw in there would be we keep Sicily back. He's the best rebounding half back in the league when he's kicking the ball to put runners into a space that no defender has identified as dangerous; or hitting guys that have slipped their man running back towards goal.

There is something so psychologically freeing when playing footy with the knowledge that you have a great fullback that is going to win their individual battle 9 times out of 10.

You push the limits a little bit further. You creep a bit further forward and commit to the press. You run off your man a little bit harder to try and get the uncontested ball and create an overlap. It just fills you with so much more confidence knowing that if you make a mistake, you can trust the guy behind you to clean it up.

TB is going to have such a big impact not only within his area but for the entire team.

Hopefully he and Battle slot into the side like they've been playing with us for years. Really keen for us to have a good start to the season for a change.

It always seemed to take a while for things to click with new players down back during the Clarkson era - at least a few months or more. Gibson and Burgoyne took a bit longer again, though I think Brian was part of the machine from around mid season.

But I'm with you, we'd want to be firing on at least 4-6 cylinders from round 1, rather than sputtering to life after a month or so.

Would allow us to take the foot off the gas a bit during the year without the burden of percentage and the need to win every week in order to play finals. History tells us that teams need to build into September, rather than make a mad sprint into finals at the death.

He will be the GK if a turnover happens and we have pressed to far up. No different to the Andrews, Weitering type role. Certainly gives us license to take alot of risks moving the ball knowing there will be someone there at least making it harder to score if they get the ball back.
