Trew did well in the third quarter.

However I would like to point one thing out. He had silver service from Nicnat against a team missing their 3 top clearance mids (2 before the game and dusty after half time), attended 17 CBA and got 1 centre clearance.

He will hopefully get a couple more games but he needs to show more for an extension.

He looked so far off the pace at the start of the game (understandable being his first game and playing before form dictated) and his bad looked so bad but then his good looked really good. His third quarter was excellent for a debut. Hope he gets a run of games to see whether he has what it takes. That said, I would rather err on the side of caution with him (given his bad run with injury) and give him another year on the rookie list to be sure, than to hang on to some players who, whilst they obviously offer more now, we know what they have and they have no real upside. Unfortunately though, some of those players with limited upside may be contracted

He showed enough today to suggest another couple of games at least, if not another year. He looked clean with ball in hand and didn’t look overawed once he settled. Debut on the MCG would be an adjustment in itself.

I think if he hadn’t have been tripped he would have snapped the goal, was a nice little shimmy to clear some space.

Hopefully now he has had a taste AFL level he can have a clear run over pre-season and give it a red-hot crack.

I was surprised. He hadn't earned a game, but showed more glimpses at AFL level than he has in most of his WAFL outings. May still not survive the end-of-year cull, but he's a better chance now than he was before Sunday.

Will Trew’s don’t argue become the new Tunbridge Tackle?
Missus and I were behind the goals for that goal.

She'd never been to the footy before and had bought us the tickets to go.

After he slotted that, she asked me if he was our best player.

I hope you replied: "Yes, already."

Hope we see him again

The west says:

- Not AFL ready - Aaron Kirby.

- 4.5 - kicked a goal built into the game - Craig O’Donoghue
The West isn't AFL ready nowadays. Always contradictory and full of their own opinions. It seems like Rhino is the only one there who actually brings a story.

Glad he got a chance in the midfield and not sitting in the HFF line.

After watching his WAFL games he surprised me some what as the game went on. I would find a way to keep him in the team over the next few weeks and see how he goes.

I guess having Yeo in the backline and Sheed injured we have been able to get a better look at the younger mids. We still have Xon to come back in at some point and would love to see him have a good crack in the guts like he did earlier in the year.

I think we can rookie list him for a third year? So might as well, give him more chance to develop after getting a taste yesterday

For me it's all about list spots and what you want to do. Is he a higher level talent than any 18 year old we are likely to pick in the rookie draft? Yes

Is that enough to keep a spot on the list. For me I would suggest he needs to show more.

To say he only had 1 center clearance is a little misleading.
He was involved in multiple chains that created clearances, may not have been first or last to touch it but was involved in keeping the ball moving.
Also around the ground he was doing the same thing, keeping the ball moving and in our possession.

For a first game in I high pressure situation playing at the G as well I thought he did well and give him a pass and a game next week as well.

Whilst I was impressed with his third quarter and in keeping the ball moving his impact really only came after Richmond were missing their 3 primary mids and Nicnat was having a feast.

He deserves another game or two to see if he's worth persisting with. His around the ground work and help to keep the ball moving was a real positive. When we are so short of mid aged and developing mids is he worth pesisting with for another year is the real question over a mature ager or another shot at the wishing well of the draft.

I agree his talent level is higher than anyone likely available as an 18yo in the rookie draft.

Considering Culley is contracted for next year
Clark is contracted for next year
O'Neill is contracted for next year
Rotham is contracted
Langdon is contracted

We have to delist/retire a minimum of 8 players just to take our 4 decent draft picks. We also need a minimum of 5 primary list spots to do so as Jones will need to be elevated at the end of the season to the main list as his 3 years as a rookie are up.

Hurn is no longer looking a guarantee for retirement either.

So there's going to need to be some tough decisions made.

Joyce
Nelson
Strnadica
Naish
Kennedy
Shep

All pretty much certainties. Only 3 main list spaces there. Also only gets us down to 40 players on the list and we have a max of 42.

Dixon also.

Give him another year, If no good we will have heap of youngsters coming thru from 2021 and 2022 draft.
Did Soldo get fined for trip?

You're a hard judge phil.

Glad you're not writing my annual performance review!

That's what I thought. He linked up to clear the ball and dint stuff it up by panic bombing or missing targets. On one of the clearances (perhaps the 1 he got) he held the ball indicating a left handed hand pass only to judge the option to his left was better so switched to the right handed handball and hit it perfectly. It was only one play but it suggests he's got skills, patience and a bit of composure which from where he started I thought it was going to be hard for him to get back into the game and do anything of note.
