Been a mighty run and an awesome team. Won't lie, wanted someone else to win this year, and enjoyed a new contender taking it off you tonight, but it's very much a case of wanting to be the best so having to best the best, which you've been.

No doubt you'll be back next year.
Yeh it's been a good run.thanks for your graciousness! Go Doggies now!

Why are you of 'no doubt' they'll be contending next year? Possible, but not certain. Trends and history suggest they are more than likely not be in the top echelon next year.
Clarke and the footy dept too good. They'll bring in good players and reload. Might not be the same mighty team, but they'll be thereabouts.

Agree, most impressive #straightsets I've seen.

Even Richmond always made the prelim when they made top 4!

Hawks fans, who stays and who goes? Can you make finals next year? Honestly, an Isaac Smith giggle away from a prelim...

It won't ease the hurt tonight, but they've been a mighty team over the journey and other successful sides will be compared to them for a very long time. Commiserations on the loss, congratulations on the success....

Agreed. I hate them with a passion, but would kill for half the success they've had.

Great effort Hawthorn.

Hopefully this next time you are on the bottom again there will not be a possibility of a merger. Maybe moved to Tassie might be what happens?

Respect!

Hawthorn deserve it after a mighty run over the past 5 years ... not having that tall key forward all season put a lot of pressure on the many small forwards and they were magnificent this season.

They have held on to the Master class in their sprinkling of 30 pluses, kept them too for peanuts as they want to continue to be part of this ongoing dynasty. Its not over by far for the Hawks, O'Meara, Mitchell 2 and Vickery who for all the barbs is a goal kicking 6ft 6 who is a better mark, better ruckman and better kick for goal than recently departed Hale and maybe Roughy will be back soon too.

Cats did not bottom out, Sydney never bottom out ... the Hawks still have the firepower and the coaching and support staff to top 4 in 2017.

For those trolling the end of an era don't kid yourselves.

Taking a step back in time to the aftermath of the 2012 grand final - a game which Hawthorn very much should've won - I thought we were cooked, Hodge and Mitchell were too old and our time was done. To win 3 in a row after that is beyond comprehension. The 2014 grand final stands out as probably the best day at the footy I'll ever have.

I can't complain with what I've seen and I couldn't possibly feel upset after tonight - the dogs were too good and their fans were absolutely loving it. For all the trolling you read on bigfooty, and to be honest take it with a grain of salt - I think that hawks fans and most others have been very gracious with our run of success and I wouldn't begrudge another success-starved team a flag. Go dogs

Glad to have been alive to witness this. Something to tell my Grand kids about.

Really wish I savoured it much better. Guess that's something I've learned is to take in the moments. Probably will only finally appreciate it once it's over.

Damn I LOVE the Hawthorn Football Club. Feeling nothing but proud and grateful right now. 3 in a row, 4 in the last 9 years, 12 in my lifetime. With plenty more to come before I'm in the ground too.
All the petty, pathetic, vindictive trolling from the envious only makes me love them even more.

I remember saying something similar in 1995.
