Didn't we finish above West Perth?

Yes but they conceded all home games beginning of the season. Maybe that might change going forward.
Indeed. The WAFL were worried the Beagles might dominate the competition. Us winning finals is going to do a lot to alleviate that concern.
Eagles 1987 all over again.
My understanding is they have never been worried about Peel or the Eagles dominating the competition, they worry more about getting the rules right re qualifying for finals.
Peel won a couple of flags playing first choice Dockers players and that was not right.
Even now I think it is complicated, they just need to make it that you must play a minimum of 5 WAFL games and two of the last 5 rounds, and not of played more AFL games than WAFL games.
Amatuer players is fair enoigh I think. Our team is well over the WAFL salary cap.So how does that explain the no home games rule (we bought home games during the H&A season)? How does that explain the crazy list limitations that forced us to bring in amatuer players and Drew Petrie out of retirement for defensive cover?

The no home game rule was something the Eagles put forward so that WAFL clubs get extra home games and revenue.
The buying of home games were agreed between the Eagles and the WAFL clubs, not sure how that took place.
The AFL have so many list places and no AFL side has enough players on their list to fill two sides, all AFL clubs need to look elsewhere for players so that they can fill a side in the state leagues. Clubs that are aligned obviously have it much easier but as the Eagles wanted a stand alone club they had to recruit players from other leagues to do this.
The AFL impose this by their list sizes not the WAFL.
Actually reading statements by WAFL clubs on the Beagles introduction it seems they decided how big the top up list would be. They even wanted it lower even if it crippled the 2nds team. They cited the SANFL example where the restrictions were so strict that the Port and Crows 2nds finished last and 2nd last with a % in 50s as reasonable examples.
Half of them didn't want the Eagles to have a 2nds team at all.
Basically they have hated us since 1987 and still do. fu** em.
Fair enough, that’s your opinion. I’m more in the corner of fu** West Coast when it comes to their seconds. Why would they like the Eagles or the Dockers? Neither of our two AFL clubs have done anything to help the WAFL since they were started.
Never seen either club celebrate the history of the WAFL.
All the money the Eagles and Dockers give their owners the WAFC give very little of it to the WAFL, under 10%.
Be dirty with the WAFC, I am in your corner there. The WAFL clubs themselves are fighting to exist and it probably wouldn’t be as hard for them if the two AFL clubs helped them out a bit more.
Then argue with the WAFC about the money. We have given something like a $140 million dollors to the WAFC. What are they doing with the money?
Everything they asked for money wise:
What the WCE WAFL team means for Perth Football Club
Good afternoon Members, Sponsors and Supporters, Over the last week, you have read the WAFC press release and significant media attention regarding the West Coast Eagles securing a side in the WAFL for 2019. Following careful consideration of the proposal put forward by WCE, the decision to...www.perthfc.com.au
they got.
Still want more. Why are we responsible for funding other clubs? It sounds like they just want more money.
I mean if they are not happy we could have our seconds team in the VFL and transfer our payments over there.
I am not arguing, you are the one dirty with the WAFL clubs for no reason.
Most of the money is in administration, like I said very little to the WAFL.
Take the team to the VFL, will have zero effect on the WAFL and cause a far larger cost for the Eagles and huge logistical issues.
You don’t really think the WAFL clubs would give two hoots what the Eagles do with their seconds do you? They don’t need them or want them. It is the Eagles who want the WAFL because of the alternative that you suggest.
More then happy too and we will take our money with us. Might want to think about cutting how our contributions to WA football if we are going to be in the VFL.
Though it looks like the WAFL (at least some clubs) are going down regardless of what we do.
No you wont because the WAFC own you, and until they don’t you will continue to pay dividends to your owners just as all businesses do.
Just don’t get how you could be happy any WAFL club died? The Eagles are not saving any WAFL club. Never have.
Well if our 2nds died and caused damage to our 1sts (and it would) you already said the WAFL clubs don't give a damn so why should we give a damn about your health? In fact I bet some WAFL clubs would be happy about it.
We bent over backwards (giving you everything you asked for) just to have a 2nds side (which everyone other team has as a matter of course) and we still get bitched at.
Its never good enough.
Mate we can go on and on over this type of thing, I respect you immensely as a poster and clearly we feel differently about this. I grew up on the WAFL, I am guessing you didn’t so I understand.
Let’s just agree to disagree and get on with with beating the bombers this Thursday.
All good man.
I don't hate the WAFL but just seeing all the hoops the boys have jumped through this year its been bugging me.
Who the **** asked you?Thought Williams, Anus, brayshaw and O’Neill were great and even foley showed glimpses. Not a huge fan of Watson though

That's what I thought.
I think all are in need of another pre-season before we judge. Is it possible to go from having absolutely no midfield depth to some in the space of one wafl final? O'Neil , Brayshaw and even Ainsworth (who I am not fond of ) certainly showed some good signs and helped drag the team over the line.
What a win for us in our inaugural year in the Wafl!
